Althea went to sleep that night with a heavy heart. She knew that she shouldn’t judge her mate, but she couldn’t bring herself to trust him after all she learned her entire life. Ever since she knew everyone in her community dissed the vampire cult.
Althea never mentioned, but she was excited to meet her mate after all those years of pining. All she wanted was to find and experience genuine love. She wanted to lead a peaceful life alongside her consort, like her parents. Her parent’s relationship was the reason she believed in truthful love. She cried with her face on the pillow, muffling her voice. She screamed in pain as she saw her dreams fall apart in front of her.
She questioned the moon goddess, asking her what she did so wrong that she had to give her such a harsh punishment. She looked up at the sky with tears streaming down her face. She never felt so alone in her entire life, not even when her parents made her stay inside a castle far from everyone’s eyes.
She closed her eyes and forced herself to fall sleep. She willed herself to stay strong despite the emotions that were gnawing at the edge of her heart.
Syrius was in his room, pacing back and forth. Thousands of questions were eroding his mind. He was growing impatient. After seeing Althea conscious, all he wanted to do was hold her close and never let her go.
He was getting restless as he kept getting a feeling that she was not all right, so he summed up all his courage and went to her room. He was about to knock when he heard sniffling and he froze in place. He couldn’t imagine his beautiful Althea all alone, suffering. He respected her privacy, and he left feeling dejected. All he wanted to do was hug her tight and reassure that everything will be fine.
He vowed to himself that no matter what, he will never let his precious mate cry ever again. He decided that it’s time to break the ice between them because he won’t be able to let her mate suffer again alone. He knew how it felt to be helpless and he thanked the moon goddess every day for his friends because he wouldn’t have been able to do anything without their support.
He knew that Althea needed a friend more than a mate at this moment, and he will be that friend for her. He didn’t know her circumstance, but he knew that it’s hard for any supernatural creature to survive in the human world alone.
