The next morning Althea woke up with tear stains on her pillow. She was ashamed that she broke down so easily in front of such a ‘minor’ problem. She decided to leave before they wake up, but Syrian intercepted her plans.
She was packing her measly belongings when she heard a soft knock on her door, she quickly hid her stuff and opened her door. Syrian was at the door with a bouquet of chocolates and his go-to candies. He was trying to cheer her up.
Althea was irritated with the goofy smile on his face, it made him look so young, carefree, and inoffensive whereas she felt tired and desperate. She was eying the assortment of sweets suspiciously. She thought this was a ruse used to trick her.
Althea smiles at him and says, “Good-morning...?”
He nudges the door with his feet and gestures towards her room. She opens the door and lets him in. As soon as Syrian sits on the bed, he sees her half-packed bag. He looks at her and asks, “Are you leaving?” Althea averts her eyes as she cannot bear to see the pained look in this handsome man’s face. His mate leaving him breaks his heart. At that moment, he knew that he will do everything he can just to stay near her.
“Why?”
“I came here on a very important mission, the duty towards my people, my family, is more important than everything else.”
“Let me help you. It will be next to impossible for you to navigate through the human world without someone who knows this place. These creatures known as humans are more vicious than any beast you might have encountered...” He paused, searching her face for any response.
“No, it’s way too risky”
“Please, just let me help you as a friend at least”
