Night....Something 1

*SAGE* This is my favorite place. At least it feels like it. I’ve been lying in this open field watching the stars for hours just listening to the nature that surrounded me. I just knew I belonged here. With the peaceful sound of the grasshoppers calling to one another, the feel of the soft tall grass under me. This was my own little heaven. I don’t even.... remember how I got here. I know I should, but I don’t. Suddenly there’s a howl in the distance. I sit up quickly, not because I’m frightened, but because the howl sounds pained..... and close. I slowly rise to my feet and notice for the first time that I’m wearing a white silk gown with thin straps that flow down to my bare feet. Interesting...... Considering I’m a joggers and plain tee kinda girl, but I’ll roll with it. My jet-black hair with royal blue streaks fell down in soft curls to my waist. I never style my hair or wear it down, so this is VERY interesting. I figured this was a dream. Maybe my mind is trying to get in touch with my feminine side. I rarely put an effort into my looks. Maybe it's my mind telling me it's time to get more girly...... Nah. I chuckle silently. I must’ve been distracted for too long because the feeling of being watched was suddenly overwhelming. I looked around me, my body going in a full circle until I stopped. My breath caught in my throat as I saw golden glowing eyes staring back at me between the trees of the dark forest that I didn’t seem to notice either. It's like a whole new world just burst open, and I was at the center of it. I was held captive by the amount of gravity that pressed on my heart to stop its regular rhythm and change its tune to something more upbeat. I couldn’t look away from those eyes. Those mesmerizing eyes. They were calling me. Searching my soul for a response that it seemed to be waiting for, “Hi.” I whispered. My heart pounding in my chest was so loud. I’m surprised whatever it was, didn’t run away. “I’m Sage.... can… can I see you.” I spoke gently as I reached out my hand. We were definitely a good 20 feet from one another, and for some reason, I wanted to change that. No, I NEEDED to change that. I thought the eyes belonged to someone tall, not someTHING tall. Boy was I wrong, I realized as the creature took its first step towards me. Yup, I think I'll SLOWLY lower my hand. A giant black paw padded softly to the ground from the shadows, followed by another and another... and another. It completely stepped out of the shadows to reveal its huge body. It stopped a good five feet away from me. So I got a pretty good view of it. Okay good, not a bear. A wolf maybe.... a really, REALLY big wolf. Its’ midnight fur looked beautiful and extremely soft. My hands were itching to lace my fingers through it. My eyes told another story though. My eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets at its height. “Okaaaayyy, so you’re a big girl.” I breathed shakingly. I was more shocked than scared. Until it growled and barked at my remark, I’m guessing. I jumped slightly, “Oh ohhhh I mean big boooooyyyy.” I quickly corrected myself because sheesh, someone’s touchy about gender identity. “I’m gonna take a wild guess here, so don’t eat me for asking but... are you a wolf? It’s not as obvious as it looks with how huge you are. You make me feel like Little Red Riding Hood. My, what big... every... thing you have.” I chuckled nervously. The beautiful beast scoffed... It scoffed! Or maybe I’m crazy. “Hmph, tough crowd I see.” Folding my arms, I took a few steps forward to close the gap. That’s what I assumed it was waiting for. Gosh, this thing was tall. I have to cram my neck up just to look at it. Maybe my self-preservation hasn’t kicked in or something, but I figured if it wanted to eat me, it would’ve done it by now. It slowly kneeled down in front of me to my height. Its breath is very warm. “Yup, definitely a wolf. You got dog breath.” It rolled its eyes… Odd.... It shouldn’t understand me, right? I shook my head to clear it a bit. Suddenly, its big dumb tongue licked my face. I dismissed the sparks shooting through my body and chucked it up to being his textured tongue, drool, and cool air that was giving me goosebumps. "Eeeeeeewww gross dude! Yuck.” I wiped the wolfy drool from my face and neck with disgust. It made a loud huffing and puffing sound with its mouth open, and its head bobbing up and down. "Are you laughing at me?!” I’m appalled! I huffed and turned around, a little put off by Wolfy over here. “The least you could do is buy me a drink first, Grumpy. I threw over my shoulder. He nudged my back with his big nose, but that didn’t move me. I mean it did a little, but I’ll never admit it. He made a whiny noise and I heard a thump behind me. “Nope” I shook my head from side to side with my chin high in the air. I have every right to be as dramatic as I want to be. Another loud whine that pulled my heartstrings made me peek over my shoulder. Ugh. Mr. Wolfy has his paws under his face while lying on his tummy with big ole puppy dog eyes. “You aren’t playing fair mister sensitive. Buuuuuuut I guess I can forgive you.” Giving him a playful sigh, I turned around. “But only if you let me pet you AND you promise not to lick me again without my permission.” I giggled and wagged my finger. “Oh and no more rolling your eyes either. It feels disrespectful somehow.” I gave him a fake stern look. He rolled his eyes again as if he couldn’t help himself. “I mean it mister. You may be big, but I’m..... I’m... hm.. aha! I’m the one with posable thumbs”. I stuck my tongue out for good measure. His paws covered his eyes as he huffed. I reached out to ruffle his fur, no longer nervous about being close to this big puppy. I gasped, shocked as the sparks that I brushed off earlier came again just as fierce. I pulled my hand away, making wolfy whine, and gave me those puppy eyes again. So I placed both hands on his head to pet him and brought my hands behind his big ears to scratch. “This is more like it, huh big guuuuuuy. You’re my big puppy aren’t you babyyyy.” Something between a growl and a purr erupted from my wolfy baby. Someone has a love-hate relationship with my baby voice. I giggled to myself. “Your fur is so soft and you’re such a handsome boy. I’m in love...” I gushed. I really was in love. He was so cute. He stole my heart in a matter of minutes. It felt as if we were always meant to be by each other’s side. Like he would always be my greatest connection. I’ve never felt this way before. Like I need him with me by my side from here on out. I never wanted him to leave. “I wish I could take you with me, but I don’t even know where we are... Nowhere near my home, that’s for sure.” I look around again while gently petting Wolfy. Not that it would matter. I should make the most of this time while I can with... “I wonder if you have a name..” I looked back at Wolfy, who nodded his head. “Well, that's too bad 'cause I’m just gonna call you Wolfy until someone tells me otherwise.” I chuckle to myself when a yawn suddenly escapes my lips. I’m more exhausted than I thought. Wolfy rubs his snout and head over my face. I’m glad he is just as happy with me as I am with him. Oddly enough, I can somehow feel his concern and contentment washing over me. He already loves me. “Awww I like you too buddy. Wanna sit with me and watch the stars for a bit before you have to go do whatever it is that big wolves do? You must be the big protector of where you’re from. I bet you’ve got all the lady wolves in heat over you.” I joked. Wolfy gave a low growl and I laughed out loud. “C’mon big guy. Let’s do some star-gazing together.” He huffed again, but followed me to the middle of the field. He lowered himself slowly until his entire body was flat on the ground. I lowered myself on the ground as well right by his side and leaned into him. Did I mention how soft and fluffy his fur was? Or how warm he is? Sheesh this is heaven. “I wish we could stay like this forever. No worries, just peace.” I sighed, knowing that I’d have to wake up eventually. We sat together content for what felt like hours. He listened, at least I assumed he did, from all of his huffs and scoffs and rumbling he made as a response to my ramblings. As I snuggled closer to him, I couldn’t help but appreciate the peace between us. Although, my dreams are never this peaceful. Just as the thought came to my mind, a thick fog slowly rolled in.
