He’s not used to this kind of closeness to anyone especially to a woman. Atticus wanted to remove Deena’s hand on his shoulder but he can’t because he doesn’t want to be rude. He thinks that Deena is just being friendly by being close to him but Bell told her a while ago that Deena likes him.
