Melissa was still sleeping in her room, when she had a knock which woke her up. She opened her eyes but was too lazy to get up from the bed.
“Please come in,” she managed to say to the person who had knocked at her door.
“Good morning Melissa,” Rosita said, as she walked into the room.
Rosita was one of the maids who work and live at the mansion too, she was the maid who is closest to Melissa, and Melissa likes her a lot and sometimes gives her most of her accessories which she doesn’t use anymore.
“Hey, what are you doing in my room?” Melissa asked.
“Catherine asked I should come and check on you, seeing that you haven’t come downstairs for breakfast, and you are already running late for school,” she said.
“Okay, thanks you can go now,” Melissa said and got up, she was about taking a step when she slumped.
Rosita seeing what just happened rushed to where she was immediately and shouted for help.
“Melissa please opened your eyes.”
“Somebody, please help!” Rosita shouted.
But the house was too big for anyone to hear her scream; she quickly ran out of the room and went downstairs to alert Mrs Catherine.
“Please help! Melissa just fainted in her room,” she said to Catherine on getting to the kitchen.
“What! Where is she?” Catherine asked and left everything she was doing as she ran out of the kitchen taking the stairs that led to Melissa’s room.
“Please go get the driver,” she instructed Rosita who quickly went outside to call the driver.
Catherine on getting to the room saw Melissa still lying on the floor, but was conscious by the time she entered.
“Hey it’s okay I am here now,” she rushed to where Melissa was, and held her.
Immediately Rosita re entered with the driver and helped Catherine lift her to the bed.
“What happened to me,” Melissa muttered, surprised when she saw herself on the floor.
“Please get her water to drink,” Catherine told Rosita, who rushed out and came back with a glass of water.
“Here you go,” she raised Melissa’s head and tried feed her the water, which she had a sip and lay back on the bed.
“What do we do now?” Rosita asked worried.
“While, I think we should call the doctor, and inform Mrs Jackson as well,” she told her.
“Mean while, you can now go back to your duty post, we will call you if there be need,” Catherine said to the driver, as she watched him leave the room.
“I don’t want you to call my parents, I am fine, I just need to rest,” Melissa said.
“I know you are fine, but the doctor still have to examine you, making sure that you are okay.”
“Please do keep an eye on her,” Catherine told Rosita.
“I need to use the phone,” she said and left the room.
Catherine came back to the room after a while later.
“The doctor will be here in a short well, meanwhile go fix breakfast for her, she needs to eat before taking drugs,” Catherine said to Rosita who left immediately.
Catherine sat beside Melissa at the bed and watched her.
“Did you call my parents?” Melissa asked.
“Yes I did call them,” she replied.
“Are they coming back home?” she asked.
Catherine remains silent for a while before say.
“I think so,” she shrugged.
“Hey, you don’t have to get angry, I am here to take good care of you,” she assured Melissa seeing that she was feeling bad already.
“I know they wouldn’t come back, no matter how sick I am,” she said and turned to face the other way, so Catherine wouldn’t see the tears that rolled down her eyes.
“I just wished I wasn’t their child?” Melissa muttered, as she sobbed.
That was when Catherine realized that she was crying and touched her head so she could turn and face her.
“You don’t have to cry, I will be here to take care of you, and Leo is there for you too, so you are not alone,” she tries to calm her down.
Melissa upon hearing Catherine mention Leo, her heart softens, she knew Leo liked her a lot, but was pretending not to because of her father, just hearing his name gives her assurance that she would be fine.
They were still taking when the family doctor arrived and came straight into Melissa’s room.
She checked her and gave her so injections and drugs to take, saying that Melissa had an allergy, that she must have eaten something that her body reacted to.
She also told them that she would be fine and that they had nothing to worry about, provide she takes her drugs regularly and watch what she eats.
After that the doctor left, leaving Melissa in the care of Catherine, Melissa finished eating her food which Rosita brought to her room, after that Catherine gave her the drugs which the doctor instructed she should take after meal.
Catherine on seeing that Melissa was stable, told her to lie down and rest, while she go back to the kitchen to finish up with what she was doing.
“I will back to check on you, just take a little rest,” she said, adjusting the pillow every well on Melissa head, as she gave her a peek on her forehead before leaving the room.
Leo went to school that morning very early, since he has been banned by Mr. Jackson not come to the mansion to help his mum, unlike before when he would go to the mansion with his mum early enough, help her with some of the chores, go back home and dress for school, which often time he runs late to school.
But everything has changed, so he has to be in school early, also his final exam is coming up in a week and he had to read so he could pass with good grades.
Leo had put it upon himself to read every two hours after school closure every since he started high school, and it has been helping him, he wish that one day he would have to go to university to study business and one day own his own business all over the globe, just like Melissa’s father.
He has always seen Mr. Jackson as a source of inspiration and had admired his knowledge and wealth, but he knows his mum can’t afford the money for his university education. Leo had to make a plan on how to raise money for his tuition fee.
His plans was that after his final exams in high school, he would go over to the sea shore to look for a job form those fisher men who goes into the sea to fish and export them outside the island.
That way Leo knew he would make a little money that will help him in his first year at the university, before looking for a part time job and find a way of balancing school and work.
Leo had just finished his last lessons for that day, and everyone was in his class was just doing one thing or the other just to keep themselves busy before the bell for school closure would ring.
It was at that point their head teacher walked into the class room.
“Good afternoon class, please settle down, I’ve got an announcement to make,” Mr. Joe said.
Upon hearing his voice everyone took their seat and there was absolute quietness in the room.
“You all know that next week, you will be taking your final exams, which will qualifier each one of you to pick a form in any of the university and apply to them.”
“In that respect we the school will be giving out a scholarship to three of our best graduating student who will perform very well in the upcoming exam into any of the universities around the world.”
“So I will encourage you all to read and pass your exam, thanks,” Mr. Joe said and left the class.
“Wow, that’s a very good one,” Mike said to Leo.
Mike has been Leo’s friend since middle school, and they had been very close since then, Mike parents were of the middle class and can afford to pay university tuition for him, so with that he wasn’t all that intelligent and don’t stay back after school to read unlike Leo.
“Yeah that very nice, I bet we need to read so we could win the scholarship,” Leo told him.
“What, I told you I won’t be doing that with you, and moreover I’ve got to go see Kim, you know how it is with the both of us, I have been trying to ask her out for some months now, and finally she is beginning to like me.”
“Really is that all you care about?” Leo asked.
“Well, your parents can afford the tuition fee for your university education, so you shouldn’t care much,” Leo shrugged.
