Melissa and parents are in silence for about three minutes after Catherine finished serving the food and had left for the kitchen to finish up with her remaining chores for that morning.
Melissa was about sipping her tea when her father cleared his throat, and looked up at her.
“I don’t want to see you with that boy called Leo ever again, what happened last night should be a warning, and I don’t want that to repeat itself,” his voice sounded rough, and husky.
This caused Melissa to almost spill her tea, as she slowly placed the tea cup back on the table and continued with her food without saying a word, because she was already tensed and wouldn’t want her dad to stay mad at her.
She felt glad that her dad talked about it, and she also knew that was the reason her parents had breakfast with her that morning.
Melissa mum didn’t say a word, she was still eating when her personal assistance walked into the room and handed her phone over to her.
“Ma’am, the board meeting would soon begin, as the investor whom you are to meet this morning just arrived,” Jane said, still standing beside her and waiting for her responses
“Hello,” she said getting up from her chair as she gulped the glass of water and left the dining table with Jane behind her, she didn’t even look at Melissa to say goodbye to her.
Her dad got up as soon as her mum left and made for the door also, Melissa just stared at them both as they disappeared from the dining hall, as she quickly got up from her seat and rushed into the kitchen to go meet Mrs Catherine.
“Hello, second mum,” she said.
Second mum was the name she calls Mrs Catherine since she was more of a mother figure to her than her own biological mum. Catherina who was engrossed with what she was doing turned around immediately upon hearing Melissa’s voice behind her.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” she whispered, as she took the kitchen rag and dried her hands, which was wet from the dishes she was doing.
She went over to meet Melissa who sat down on one of the dinning seats at the kitchen, she was still holding onto her tea cup, as she placed the cup on the table and looked up at Catherine who was now standing in front of her.
“You have to keep your voice down,” Catherine adjusted one of the sits and sat down.
“And what are you doing here?” she flashed Melissa a worried gaze.
“What if your parents should walk in and find you talking to me, you know it won’t go well with them right?” she frowned.
“They are gone, you don’t have to worry,” Melissa grabbed her hands and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“I am just worried about Leo, I haven’t seen him this morning, and it’s everything okay?” Melissa asked, feeling very worried at the responses Catherine might give her.
Catherine looked around the kitchen making sure that known of the other worker is in sight before speaking out.
“The security men came to our quarters last night and grabbed Leo, demanding that your father wanted to see him,” Catherine said, as her face became pile.
“What?”
“Where is he now?” Melissa demanded to know.
“He is home, but had refused to tell me what happened.”
“Do you by any chance know what is going on, because I really do not want any trouble,” Catherine told Melissa.
Melissa was about telling Catherine what happened last night, but remembered that Leo wouldn’t have wanted his mum to know, and that was the reason why he didn’t mention it to her, with that Melissa kept quiet and just gaze at Catherine who was hoping for an answer.
“No, I don’t know what’s going on, or why my dad sent the security men to get Leo last night,” Melissa lied.
“Okay,” Catherine shrugged.
“But please I would like you to talk to Leo, he might let you know, since you are his best friend,” Catherine pleaded with Melissa.
“Sure I would do just that, when I get back from school.”
Melissa drank the last of her tea and stood up from the chair, as she gave Catherine a warm hug and left the kitchen, when she got outside the driver was already waiting for her outside.
On seeing her he opened the car for her to enter as she went back to the driver’s side, entered the car and drove out of the compound.
At school Melissa couldn’t concentrate on anything, she was thinking about Leo, she knew Leo would be in his own school by that time, and wished to see him, her dad had warned her not to be seen around him, so with that Melissa decided that since Leo would be closing around the same time as she, she would ask the driver to take her to Leo’s school so they can pick him up, and they would look for somewhere to talk.
Melissa was at the library when she had the school closing bell ring, she packed up her school books and checked her time, it was some minutes, before Leo’s school will also close, and Leo didn’t have a cell phone else she would have called him.
Melissa walked out of the school premises and saw her driver already waiting at the schools parking lot for her. On seeing him, she smiled at herself, because she knew that she would definitely meet up with Leo.
She liked her driver because he was always punctual in coming to pick her up from school.
And today was no different from other days.
“Hello,” the driver greets Melissa and opened the door to the car for so she could enter.
“Good day,” Melissa greets him and watched him turn to the other side of the car and entered the car.
He was about starting the car when Melissa told him they won’t be going home straight because she because she wants to make a stop.
“And where would that b?” the driver asked her.
“Saint John’s high school,” Melissa answered.
“I am sorry Melissa, but may I ask who you are going to meet there?” he asked.
“A friend, and please can you stop asking questions and take me to where I want to go,” Melissa Snapped, feeling a little uncomfortable about the drivers inquisitiveness.
“Okay,” the driver said and drove off from the parking lot.
Melissa didn’t say anything further to him, as she listened to the music that played from the radio.
It was less than thirty minutes when the car pulled up at the entrance of Saint John’s school; Melissa unbuckled her seat beat and opened the door to the car to get down, when the driver turned his head from his seating position to look at Melissa.
“Please do not take long, I don’t want to get into trouble with your dad that might make me loss my job,” he pleaded with Melissa.
Melissa looked at him and knew she was a bit harsh at him earlier, but she had no option because they would have still been in her school arguing thereby causing her to loss Leo.
“I understand, but I really have to do this, and I am sorry on coming down on you like that, I didn’t mean to do that,” she apologized.
“And I won’t take time,” she smiled at him before getting down.
The driver just watched her until she disappeared.
Melissa was lucky, because they just rang the closing bell of Leo’s school, as people began trooping out of the building, she managed to found a way to pass the crowd and found his way to the hall way, she knew Leo won’t be in class by then, so she found her way to their locker room by asking someone who showed her the way.
Melissa walked into the locker room, and was about asking a girl she saw question, when she spotted Leo putting his books into his own locker.
Melissa walked up to him and leaned at the other side while she waits for Leo to close his locker and see him.
But that didn’t happen, because before Leo cloud close his locker and spot Melissa some other guy saw Melissa and walked up to her.
“Hey, you look so pretty,” the boy admired, and stretched his hands to exchange pleasantries.
“Am Jack,” the boy said.
“Melissa,” she shook his hands.
Leo heard the voice and immediately closed his locker to see who it was, and there she was Melissa.
He was shocked and confused, because he can’t believe that she was the one standing beside him, his brain was still adjusting to that fact, when she saw Melissa shaking the other boy, as she turned and their eyes both met.
Leo didn’t allow Melissa to finish her conversation with the other boy, when he quickly grabbed her hands and led her out of the locker room, to a quiet class where no one was.
“What are you doing here?” Leo snapped.
“How did you get here?” he said looking straight into Melissa’s eyes.
Melissa could her heart racing as her eyes stared deep into Leo’s eyes.
She didn’t answer any of his questions as she went closer and hugged him tightly as her lips brushed his.
Leo hugged her as well for some seconds as he managed to ease his grip away from her.
“You know, you shouldn’t be here,” he managed to say.
“I am sorry, but I didn’t see you today at my house, and I asked your mum, she said my dad’s security men came to the house last night to take you to him, so I was worried and needed to talk to you,” Melissa explained.
“What did my dad say to you?” she asked.
“It’s nothing important, but you have to go home now, before they call home,” Leo took her hands and was about moving, when Melissa released her grip from him.
“You don’t like me anymore right?” she said looking at Leo straight in the eyes.
“Please can we not do this now, and how did you get here?” Leo asked again, because he knew Melissa driver won’t possibly bring her to his school.
“The driver brought me here,” Melissa said.
“What! You know that would be putting his job at stake, I really have to get you home, I am fine,” Leo tries to convince her.
But Melissa remained adamant on staying and getting an answer over what happened between him and her father.
Leo on seeing that Melissa won’t take no for an answer, and at the same time wouldn’t want any of them to get into trouble, he had to promise Melissa that he would see her later that evening and explain things to her, just so she could go meet the driver and head back home.
He looked at his wrist watch and knew that if Melissa’s home teacher should get home and don’t find her at home, she would be forced to call her parents and that would be trouble.
“I will wait for you at the hill top, by midnight,” Melissa said to him, as she gave him another hugged.
Leo took her hands and walked her out of the school building to where her driver was already out of the car and pacing about worried.
On seeing them he stood still and watched as they approached him.
“I am very sorry for keeping her,” Leo apologized to the driver as they got to where he stood.
The driver didn’t say a word as he quickly opened the car door for Melissa to go in, Melissa entered the car and asked Leo to join her, but Leo refused.
“Please join me, you can’t possible walk home, when we are going the same way,” Melissa said.
Leo looked at the driver who was still standing at the door and looking shocked on hearing Melissa telling Leo to join her ride.
The driver nods his head urging Leo to enter, but telling him that he would stop him at the entrance of the gate to the house so he can walk the rest of the yard by foot to his house.
As Leo entered the car he shut the door, turned to the other side of the car, entered and drove off.
