Mrs Catherine finished preparing dinner for the Jackson’s family after which she went to check in on Melissa who hasn’t left her room since that morning. She tapped at her room door and went inside, she saw Melissa fast asleep and didn’t want to wake her up, with that Mrs Catherine went back to the kitchen, she looked at her wristwatch and saw it was passed her closing hour, but couldn’t leave with Melissa still asleep. She finished up with what she was doing, parked her bag and went back into Melissa’s room to wait up, and make sure she was all right and that all her needs were met before going home. She sat down on the couch and picked up a book and began reading while she waits. After about an hour of waiting Catherine did not realize when she fell asleep on the couch. Melissa was dreaming about Leo when all of a sudden her eyes opened as it tries adjusting to the fading light which shines through her room window, she felt this sharp pain in her head which hurts so bad probably because she has been sleeping for almost Five hours. She lay still and tried to look around the room with her stomach trembling from lack of food, when her eyes stumbled upon a figure lying on her couch. She wasn’t certain who it was because the room was dark. She focused on the figure making sure to know who was lying there as she quickly recognized that it was Catherine. Melissa rolled out of bed and looked at her table clock and was surprised how late it was. ‘What is second mum still doing in the house by this time of the night,” she thought to herself and walked over to the couch. Melissa stared at her and wasn’t sure if she should wake her up because she was sleeping so peacefully, but on a second thought decided to wake her up knowing that Leo would be worried not seeing her at home yet. “Hey,” she said tapping Catherine who moved her body and continued sleeping. “Wake up,” she whispered and watched as Catherine opened her eyes and stared at her. “Hello Melissa,” she Muttered and got up gently from the couch. “You are awake.” “Yes, what are you doing here at this time of the night?” Melissa asked. “I was trying to make sure you are okay, what’s it by the time?” she asked Melissa. “It’s past eleven,” Melissa replied. “What!” Catherine exclaimed and jumped out of the couch as she reached for her bag which lay on the floor. Catherine walked to the door as Melissa followed behind her. “I will walk you down,” Melissa volunteered. “No, you don’t have to do that, I will ask Rosita to fix you dinner on my way out.” “Say me hello to Leo,” Melissa finally said, and watched Catherine shut the door on her way out. Catherine walked through the hall way quietly back to the kitchen where she would leave the house through the back door, she was trying not to wake Melissa’s Parents which she thought must have been home earlier on, maybe while she was as sleep at Melissa’s room. At the door of the Kitchen she bumped into Rosita and was surprise what she still doing at the kitchen by that time. The kitchen bulb was off and she was just with a flash light which helped her see her way around the kitchen. “Gosh! What are you in the dark?” Catherine asked immediately, trying to catch her grip. Rosita pointed the flash light on her face to see who it was that is sneaking around also in the dark as her. “I thought you’ve left the house earlier?” Rosita said sharply. “No, I haven’t, I’ve been up at Melissa’s room making sure she is okay,” Catherine snapped. “What are you doing out here?” she asked again. “I came down to get water,” Rosita lifted the bottle of water in her hand so Catherine could see. “You better get going before someone see’s you in here, you know how the Jackson’s are when they see someone sneaking around,” Catherine said. “What,” Rosita chuckled. Catherine was surprised and asked why she did that. “Mr. and Mrs Jackson aren’t home yet.” “What, by this time?” Catherine snapped. Rosita nodded. “Okay, just send in food to Melissa she must be so hungry, and make sure she takes her drugs before going to bed.” “I am off home,” Catherine said, as she walked out from the back door. Leo woke up late from having his nap, and looked outside his room widow only to find out that it was dark out. He quickly glanced at his wall clock and saw that it was some minutes past eleven. “Does this mean that my mum is back and didn’t come up to check up on me,” he thought, and got out from bed as he made his way to his mum’s room. Leo tapped at the door and opened it, he walked into the room and didn’t find his mum lying down on her bed, he rushed out and went to the sitting room then to the kitchen, but there was no sign of his mum anywhere. That was when it struck him that his room isn’t back from work. “What would be keeping out this late,” he said aloud to himself and went back into his room, picked up his shirt and walked out of the main door, to go look for his mum at the mansion. He was holding a flash light and followed the narrow part which will lead him to the backyard of the mansion. That was the fastest way to get to the mansion, but within him he was praying that his mum shouldn’t take the longer route so they won’t miss each other on the way. Upon getting to a spot he heard footstep coming from the far end of the road, as he quickly slide into a corner of a tree and stayed calm to see who it was approaching him. Leo thought it was one of the security men, although they don’t usually patrol at this side of the road, but who knows maybe Mr. Jackson have asked them to, knowing this is the only route he could take to the house if he still wants to see Melissa. Mrs Catherine heard the noise also while she was coming and stopped immediately to know if someone was approaching her. “It was a narrow lonely part, which was covered with bushes at the both side, and the spot where she stood was dark, and this made her scared, she knew that the compound was safe, but one needs to be careful too. She stood still for a while and took another step but within her she knew that someone was hiding among the bushes and decided to speak out. “Who is that?” she asked, and waited to see if someone would emerge from the dark. “I know you are hiding, please do come out.” Leo was still and tried listening to the voice, on recognizing that it was his mum’s voice he quickly came out from his hiding point. “Mrs Catherine was surprised when she saw a figure coming out from a corner of the bush which stood tall trees, but didn’t recognize the person just on time, she was still focusing on the figure which was approaching her faster as she blinked hard so her eyes could adjust to the darkness which eluded her. “Hey mum, it is me,” Leo said from a distance as he turned on his flash light. “Leo,” Catherine called out again, as he got to where she stood. “God, you scared me,” She said to him. “What are you doing hiding in the dark? Catherine asked. “I was coming to the mansion to know what kept you, when I heard a footstep from ahead, so I ducked just to know who it was,” he said. Leo held his mum’s hands as they began walking back home, with him flashing the torch light so they could see their way through. “I just woke up and noticed that you weren’t home, what happened, and why are you closing just now?” Leo asked. “I am so sorry to have kept you worried; I slept off at Melissa’s room.” Leo’s heart skipped at the sound of his mum mentioning Melissa’s name, as he stopped immediately. “What were you thinking sleeping in Melissa’s room,” Leo asked surprised. “She was very sick this morning that we even had to call the doctor to come treat her.” “What’s wrong with her? How is she doing now? Is she responding to treatment?” Leo asked rather too fast. He was so terrified over the news that his heart raced fast, his Mum realizing how scared Leo looked told him not to worry that Melissa was okay. “Come on, it’s just allergies noting more, and why did you stop, let’s go,” he urged him. “She will be perfectly fine by tomorrow,” Catherine assured him, as they kept on along the part until they got to the house. When they were inside, Leo asked his mum go have her shower while he heat up the food which he had prepared earlier on for her to eat. “That won’t be necessary,” His mum said. “I am not hungry, and it is already pass dinner time, so I can manage.” “Good night son,” Catherine finally said and went to her room to rest for the night, because she was feeling so tried. Leo watched his mum until she disappeared from the passage which led to her room, He made sure the doors and windows were locked before going into his own room to sleep for the night. Leo lay down on his bed, as his mind went back to Melissa who he just learnt was sick, as he wished he had cell phone to call and know how she was doing at the moment. He tried to sleep but was unable to, because his mind was having lots of thoughts within, and moreover he just wake up from his long nap not quite long. “Maybe I should just go up to her house and check up on her,’ Leo thought, but on a second thought lay back on his bed. He was rolling from one corner of his small size bed to the other, begging for sleep to come, but when he finally knew that he won’t be able to catch any, Leo stood up and went to sit on the chair of his small reading table, so he could put his time to use by studying and get his mind of Melissa. Leo took out his book and flipped through the pages but was still unable to concentrate as he closed the book in anger and went out of his room. He opened the front door and walked out of the sitting room to an open space at the front of the yard so he can have some fresh air. There was full moon out already, and it sent out light all over the place, it wasn’t there when Leo set out to go in search of his mum earlier that night, and he was happy that it actually came out now. He sat on the pavement outside the house and watched the moon from down where he sat as he fantasized on what his life would look like in the next five years to come. Rosita fixed omelet and milk for Melissa and took it upstairs to her room, she found Melissa working on her computer as she just put down the tray of food on the table. “Is there anything more I would get for you?” Rosita asked Melissa who didn’t look up at her as she replied that she wouldn’t need anything more from her. “Okay,” Rosita said and was about leaving the room when Melissa raised her head up and told her thank you. “You are welcome,” Rosita smiled. “And please don’t forget to take your Medicine,” she remained Melissa. “Sure I will.” “That reminds me,” Melissa turned sharply to look at Rosita who was about leaving the room. “Is my parents back?” she asked. “Okay thanks,” she went back with what she was doing. Rosita noticed the disappointment in her face but had nothing to say, as she slowly left the room.
