The world felt like it had stilled as I watched Eris drive the dagger through my mother's chest. I threw my head back, hitting the creature behind me in the face, making his grip around me loosen. My legs didn’t seem to be able to keep up with my brain and I fell forward onto the floor. I tried to stand up but the loud ringing in my ears seemed to disorient me so I scrambled across the floor, but I seemed to be moving too slowly. Nathaniel zoomed past me, catching her before she hit the floor. This couldn’t be happening, not again. I had only just gotten her back and now she was been taken away from me again.
