Chapter
The day is not yet over and she's already tired of the workload in the office. Just imagine what the rest of her day here will be like. As much as she wants to run away from the company and never return, thinking about Mr. Turner that has been nothing but so good to her, thinking about the trust the man has for her, and the love he had for her while he was still managing the company, she thinks that it'll be unfair to break his trust and leave just like that.
"You can do this, Eve. Just trust yourself that you can," She assures herself as she resumes work on her desktop. Of course, she knows that jerk just wants to bully her, she knows that he just wants to frustrate her and make her life in the company miserable, but screw him!
Having all her attention on the desktop, she cringe as someone suddenly drops a heap of documents on the desk again. Her face drops sadly when she raises her gaze to see a smirk dancing at the corner of Jayden's lips. Does he want to kill her? She's yet to sort the previous files out, how the hell does he expect her to do this? She so much wants to scream to his face and tell him how much she hates him, but knowing that this jerk is never affected by whatever she chooses to say, she just lets this slide.
"I need everything to be on my desktop first thing tomorrow morning. I don't care how you're going to do it, but I want all the files to be sorted out and submitted to me by tomorrow morning," He says with a hint of coldness in his voice while giving her a cold glare.
"There'll be an important conference meeting with some of my clients tomorrow by 10am. I won't be able to attend it for some personal reason, so you'll be representing me there," He further says and without waiting to hear her agree or disagree, he walks over to the exit door and pulls it open before he strides out of the office.
She stares at the closed door almost breaking down in tears. What has she done to him to deserve this treatment?
"You didn't do anything, Eve. He's just being unfair and a jerk," Her subconscious mind assures her, and she sighs deeply. Staring at the files on her desk, she can't help freaking out at the thought of sorting all of them eventually.
Hour later
Working for hours nonstop has made her legs swollen and almost difficult to carry her, but she still manages to walk in them to the parking lot where she hops inside her car and turns on the car ignition. It seems like she's almost the last person to leave the company, as the place was already deserted by the time she came out of her office. Well, all thanks to Jayden, she had to work overtime.
About to drive out of the compound, her phone suddenly beeps and she lazily reaches out for it from her handbag. Sliding the unlock button a message pops on the screen of the phone, and she almost screams her lungs out. Jayden just messaged her that she need to stay at the office two more hours and take care of something on his behalf.
Eve POV
I can't believe Jayden made me stay two more hours in the office. How can someone be this wicked? He's trying to make me sad, but I won't give him the chance to. I'm going to make him pay for everything although I have no idea when and how, but when I'm done with him, he'll regret ever crossing paths with me. That bastard!
Spending hours in the company before I finally wrap up the work, I proceed to drive home. Nanny Cleo must be so worried about me for staying so late at work now. The worst is that I forgot my phone battery is flat and I forgot to get it charged while working. She must've tried to reach me many times and failed. Well, all thanks to that arrogant and heartless bastard.
Driving into the compound a few minutes later, I park neatly at the parking lot. Hopping out of the car, I drag my feet to the entrance door and crash on the couch tiredly as soon as I walk inside the living room. My whole body feels as though I was ganged beaten. I can't even lift a finger.
"You're finally here. You got me so worried sick about you. What took you so long to get back from work? Did you get hurt on your way? What happened?" Nanny Cleo asks worriedly as she hurries to sit beside me as she examines my body.
"I'm fine, I got so busy at work. Have you made something yet? I'm hungry," She nods her head. The only thing on my mind now is to eat, take a shower and get some sleep.
Dragging myself up to my feet, I walk sluggishly over to the dining and set to eat the food that's already dished out to me. I guess I would've lost my life if I didn't meet food at home. I mean, my energy is almost drained and it'll take me only a few seconds to collapse and lose my life if I don't have something to eat.
I take my time to eat my food, after which I drag myself into my room to get some sleep.
Stepping into my room after minutes of dragging myself along the hallway, I crash on the bed and stare up at the ceiling. I don't think I can do this tonight. I'll just have my bath tomorrow before I go to that hell of an office. I feel my eyes heavy, and I slowly close them as I drift into dreamland. It's so beautiful and relaxing to be back home. One's bed is the only comfort anyone can ask for...
