Dead Flowers to the Mate

Maylyn sits inside a small coffee shop, looking out the large front window at the small kids run from school into their parent’s arms. So much has changed, so much has changed. Her black hair pools around her arms resting on the table, while her eyes threaten to betray her. Yes, she’s a wolf. But doesn’t mean she’s something special. The man she thought would be her mate, turned into her best friend’s mate and she’s never spoken to either again. Losing two best friends at the same time, was difficult.  Topping things off, yesterday at a neighboring packs party, she met him. The guy that is supposed to change her life, for the better, was confusing it more than ever. Remembering back to last night. She’s on the dance floor when the smell comes around filling her nose and mind. And, of course, the music changes to something to slow dance too. He comes up behind her, one arm wraps around her waist moving them to the music. She is fast to fall into his movements. “Mine.” He softly growls into her ear, while inhaling deep breaths of her neck. Unable to deny, he smells good, the need to face him is getting wild. He free hand runs down her neck before down her arm and taking her hand and turning her to face him. Breath stolen. Its him, the man from another pack. The man who is here just to observe, a representative of the King. He has blonde hair, green eyes and that body. He’s not bulging with muscles like other Alphas. He’s more like, David Beckham. Just all around good. And I suppose that makes sense since he’s not an Alpha. But all the Alphas do give him respect like he can kill them, easily. “What’s your name?” He asks. “Maylyn. What’s yours?” Her voice sounding shaky, almost like she shouldn’t be asking. “Gavin.” Unsure what she should be doing. Okay, sure she understood what to do. But with the loss her heart is still nursing, honestly, she didn’t want to go anywhere. Since this man is the King’s representative, she wouldn’t be able to stay in her comfort zone. And at the same time, that mate bond is pretty amazing, she was close to jumping on and taking him now. Get a hold of yourself May. “I’ve been looking for you for…. awhile.” Looking at him, not sure what that means. From what she understood, he’s only 21 and she’s only 20. How long could he really be looking. That myth of everyone finding their mates at 18, is that, just a myth. “How old are you Maylyn?” “Um, 20 and you?” “Well, I guess that depends on your definition of age.” “Pardon?” He chuckles and releases her. “I’m 21.” “Are you sure?” “Not, really. But that’s a conversation for another time.” Not sure how to take that. Taking a deep breath and pushing her lips together. “So, what now?” “I’m ready to go home now. You’re who I’ve been waiting for. Now that you’re here… ready to go?” “No, not really.” “Why? Isn’t this normal for mates? You follow me to my pack.” “Well yeah, but I guess I’m not sure.” “Oh….” “When are you leaving?” “Tomorrow. I was leaving regardless of finding you.” “You can’t stay longer?” Shaking his head. His face showing disappointment and confusion. “Nothing can stop my leaving. I’ve been called home.” The silence is thick, thick. “Are you really not coming with me?” Gavin asks. “No, I-I didn’t say that. Its just-” His expression is something she hasn’t seen before. Almost like, he isn’t used to people telling him no. Maylyn clears her throat. “No, its just, tomorrow is in two hours and I didn’t even know you were alive until two minutes ago.” Nodding his head. Nodding her head, biting her bottom lip with her index finger up. “One minute.”
