Salix   His lungs were on fire, burning as if every breath scorched his insides. Everything hurt and he couldn’t open his eyes. He took a mental stock of himself: His head hurt; his lungs burned; his arms and legs were throbbing with dull pain in several areas; and a spot on his stomach felt like a hot poker had been pressed inside. Wherever he was, it was silent except for his own breathing; his breaths seemed as loud as waves on the ocean. He was laying on a hard surface and thought that he’d been bound again.
