Rejected By Fate, Claimed By The Lycan King

Freya Hale was always the weakest wolf in her pack. Unwanted, underestimated, and overlooked, she spent her life believing she would never be enough.

Until her eighteenth birthday changed everything.

Dorian Gray, the powerful Alpha she was destined to love, was her mate. But instead of claiming her, he rejected her in front of the entire pack and chose Seraphina Vale, a woman whose power and status could secure his future.

Heartbroken and humiliated, Freya fled into the forest, determined to leave her old life behind.

She never expected to cross into the territory of Xavier Blackthorn, the most feared Lycan King in existence.

Cold, ruthless, and untouchable, Xavier has never bowed to anyone. Yet the moment he discovers Freya, he recognizes something impossible within her. Her blood carries the legacy of the First Luna, an ancient power believed to have vanished centuries ago.

Suddenly, the girl everyone called weak becomes the key to a secret capable of changing the supernatural world forever.

As Freya struggles to control her awakening powers, an unexpected connection begins to grow between her and the king who should have been her greatest danger.

But fate is never simple.

When Dorian returns, desperate to reclaim the mate he once threw away, Freya must face the man who shattered her heart while discovering the truth about the man who may be destined to hold it.

One rejected mate. One dangerous king. One forgotten bloodline.

He rejected her when she was powerless. The Lycan King discovered her when she was destined to rule.

But what happens when the past refuses to let her go, and the future demands a price she may not be willing to pay?

Chapter 1
The first thing I smelled was pine. The second was rain. The third was him. My entire body went still. Across the crowded clearing, beneath the silver light of the full moon, stood the man I had spent eighteen years dreaming about without ever knowing his face. Tall, broad shouldered, dressed in black, with dark hair falling carelessly over his forehead and eyes the color of winter storms. Dorian Gray. The future Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack. My mate. For one impossible second, I forgot how to breathe. The bond struck me with such force that my knees nearly buckled. Warmth spread through my chest, followed by a strange, sweet ache that seemed to reach into the deepest part of my soul. Somewhere inside me, a voice I had never heard before stirred awake. Mate. I pressed a trembling hand against my heart. All my life, I had imagined this moment. I had imagined looking into my mate’s eyes and seeing recognition. I had imagined him crossing the distance between us, taking my hands in his, and telling me that he had been waiting for me just as desperately as I had been waiting for him. I had imagined being wanted. Perhaps that was the cruelest part. Because when Dorian finally looked at me, there was no warmth in his expression. Only irritation. And then disgust. “You’re joking.” His words cut through the music and conversation surrounding us. I blinked. “What?” Dorian looked around as though someone had played an embarrassing trick on him. Several pack members had already noticed the sudden tension between us. Conversations faded, and heads turned in our direction. He took one step toward me, his jaw tightening. “Tell me this isn’t happening.” I stared at him, unable to understand. The bond was unmistakable. I could feel it pulling at me, a golden thread stretching between our souls. His scent had wrapped itself around my senses, and the wolf inside me was practically trembling with the need to approach him. “Dorian,” I whispered. His expression hardened at the sound of his name. “Don’t.” One word. That was all it took to make the warmth in my chest turn cold. Behind him, a group of young wolves exchanged glances. I recognized some of them from the training grounds, where I had spent years being laughed at for my weakness. Others belonged to the wealthiest families in our pack, the ones who had always looked at me as though I were something unpleasant they had accidentally stepped in. I wanted to disappear. But I couldn’t move. Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of my life. I had turned eighteen only an hour earlier. According to our traditions, the Moon Goddess could reveal a wolf’s mate on the night of their eighteenth birthday. Every unmated wolf in the pack waited for this moment, hoping to find the person destined to complete them. I had waited, too. Even when my wolf had remained strangely quiet throughout my childhood, even when I struggled to shift while other wolves transformed before their sixteenth birthdays, I had held on to the belief that something wonderful awaited me. My mother used to tell me that strength came in different forms. “Never mistake silence for weakness, Freya,” she would say, brushing my hair away from my face. “The quietest creatures often survive the longest.” She had died when I was twelve. And now, standing in front of my destined mate, I wished I could hear her say those words one more time. Dorian glanced at my simple silver dress, then at the faded shoes I had borrowed from a girl in the kitchen. His lips curled. “Of all the wolves in this pack,” he muttered. “It had to be you.” I swallowed. “Maybe we should talk somewhere private.” “Why?” he asked sharply. “So you can pretend this is some kind of fairytale?” A few people laughed. My cheeks burned. I searched his face, hoping to find some sign that he was frightened, confused, or simply overwhelmed by the sudden appearance of our bond. Instead, I found a man who had already decided that I was beneath him. “I’m not asking you to love me,” I said quietly. “I just want to understand.” “You want to understand?” He gave a humorless laugh. “Fine. I’ll make this simple enough for you.” He turned toward the crowd. My stomach dropped. “Dorian, please.” He ignored me. “Everyone knows that tomorrow I will officially assume the position of Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack. That responsibility requires a suitable Luna. Someone strong. Someone who can command respect and strengthen our alliances.” His eyes found mine again. “Someone like Seraphina Vale.” A murmur swept through the clearing. I knew that name. Everyone did. Seraphina was the daughter of Alpha Vale, the ruler of the neighboring Silvercrest Pack. Beautiful, wealthy, and blessed with an exceptionally powerful wolf, she had been considered Dorian’s ideal match for years. She stood near the ceremonial platform in a silver gown, her pale hair arranged in elegant waves. A satisfied smile touched her lips when Dorian looked at her. I watched her walk toward him. She moved with the effortless confidence of someone who had never been told she was worthless. When she reached his side, she slipped her arm through his. Dorian allowed her to do so. Then he looked at me. “Seraphina is the woman I intend to make my Luna. Our families have already discussed the arrangement. Our union will secure the future of this pack.” I could barely hear him over the roaring in my ears. “But I’m your mate.” The words escaped before I could stop them. For the first time, something flickered in his expression. Not affection. Not regret. Anger. “And I refuse to let a mistake made by the Moon Goddess dictate my future.” The clearing fell silent. Even the wind seemed to disappear. A mistake. He had called me a mistake. My wolf whimpered inside my mind, a small, broken sound that made my chest ache. I reached for her instinctively, but she retreated, curling into herself as if she, too, had been struck. I had never felt so alone. Dorian stepped closer. “Listen carefully, Freya. You may have been born into this pack, but that doesn’t mean you belong beside me. You can barely shift. You have no strength, no status, and no family powerful enough to protect you.” His gaze dropped briefly to my trembling hands. “What kind of Luna would you make?” I had no answer. Not because he was right. But because every cruel word touched a place inside me that had been wounded long before tonight. I remembered the training sessions where I had fallen behind. The whispers in the hallways. The way the other girls had laughed when I couldn’t summon my wolf. I remembered being the only child in the pack who had never managed a complete transformation. I had tried everything. I had run until my lungs burned, trained until my muscles shook, and studied every old book I could find in the pack library. I had searched for answers to explain why my wolf remained hidden behind a wall I couldn’t break through. Nothing had worked. And now the man destined to love me had confirmed what everyone else had always believed. That I was not enough. Seraphina tilted her head, examining me with an expression of false sympathy. “Perhaps the Goddess made a mistake,” she said sweetly. “It wouldn’t be the first time someone received more than they deserved.” A few nervous laughs followed. I looked at her. Then at Dorian. He didn’t defend me. He didn’t tell her to stop. Instead, he reached for her hand and raised it to his lips, pressing a kiss against her knuckles while the entire pack watched. Something inside me cracked. I had imagined rejection before, though never from my mate. In my darker moments, I had wondered whether someone like Dorian could ever want a girl like me. But I had never imagined that he would make a spectacle of my humiliation. I lifted my chin. If he wanted to break me, he would have to watch me refuse to fall apart. “Then reject me,” I said. Dorian’s eyebrows rose slightly. “What?” “You heard me.” My voice trembled, but I forced myself to continue. “If you don’t want me, reject me properly. Don’t stand there and make me beg for something you never intended to give me.” For the first time that evening, the crowd seemed genuinely surprised. Dorian studied me, perhaps searching for the frightened girl he expected to find. I was frightened. I was heartbroken. But I was still standing. His expression turned cold. “Very well.” He released Seraphina’s hand and faced me. “I, Dorian Gray, future Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, reject you, Freya, as my mate and Luna. I sever the bond between us and release myself from all obligations to you.” Pain exploded through my chest. I gasped, staggering backward as though he had driven a blade between my ribs. The bond resisted for a heartbeat, stretching painfully between us. I felt his emotions brush against mine, a brief flash of something sharp and unfamiliar. Then he pushed harder. The connection shattered. I clapped a hand over my mouth to smother the cry that escaped me. Tears blurred the faces around me. Someone whispered my name. Another person muttered that I should have expected this. I couldn’t tell who. All I could feel was the empty space where my mate had been. It was as though a part of my soul had been ripped away, leaving behind a wound that no amount of time could ever truly heal.
