Maddox swears loudly as something jumps from the darkness. I'm quick to bring the blanket up to my face but Maddox drops his spoon, yet again, and has to pause the movie to go to the kitchen and grab a new one. My heart beats rapidly in my chest, not only because of the jump scares but because every time something scares Maddox, he gets closer to me. Our legs were just pressed up against each other and I'd have a hard time focusing on the scary movie on the flat screen a few feet away. I try my best to pay attention to the movie and almost shriek when something jumps from the top of the dresser.
