Emma stood, her eyes fixed on me, awaiting an explanation that I wasn't yet ready to give. Richard, on the other hand, looked from one face to the other, clearly not understanding what was happening.
“Emma,” I murmured her name, trying to maintain composure, “what are you doing here?”
She shook her head, almost as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing. “I should ask you the same, Bobby. What are you doing here? And why are you wearing that fancy suit?”
Richard seized the moment of confusion to inquire, “Bobby? Do you know him, Emma?”
She nodded with a serious look. “Yes, I do. He used to work with me at my company.”
