I went outside, where the others were already gathered. Vala stood wearing a simple white cloak, a matching scarf draped over her head, while she talked quietly with Cooper. He looked nervous, but his eyes lit up when he saw me.

“Hey, Coop,” I laughed as he picked me up off my feet in a fierce hug. “I’m so glad you were able to come. It means a lot to have some friends here today.”
