Fran sat at her desk, moving papers around, feeling distracted, when Vaughn strode through the door. She had mixed feelings about his return. After all, her devotion to him had gone unnoticed and his desire earned Miranda his physical affection. She was not sure if she could sway his emotions in her direction.
“Fran! Good to see you.” Vaughn glanced at Lisa’s empty desk.
“She quit.”
Vaughn frowned at the curt reply.
“Did she say why?”
“Nope. Just got up the other day and didn’t come back.”
Vaughn’s plans for the practice were up-in-the-air anyway, so he felt relieved having one less person to pay.
