The sun streamed through the circle top window and onto Autumn’s face. She and Chrissy slept through the night after a happy evening with friends. It felt like old times in the house; so much laughter. Next to her, Chrissy blinked then stretched and yawned. She grabbed the little body and held her close, kissing the top of her head.
“I love you so much.”
Chrissy grunted and licked Autumn’s face.
They finished their morning routine, including taking Autumn’s medication, just in time to receive Steve and Mickey.
“How are you feeling? Still on the pain meds?”
Steve chuckled. “Are you kidding? After the conversation we had with Julie? I talked to my doctor. He’s weaning me off.”
