Anna Martin waltzed into the bank with papers authorizing her access to Gary’s account. The woman at the window printed out the balance and handed it to her: $1,579.62.
“This can’t be right.”
The bank teller shrugged. “That’s what’s in the account, ma’am.”
She could not even pay one month’s mortgage for Gary’s house with this. Anna already had the water turned off and the cell phone and cable services discontinued. That realtor better hurry up and sell the house, she thought. The bills Gary left behind were piling up and the mortgage on the house was due. With his debt, she would be lucky to come away with fifty thousand dollars.
Anna completed the paperwork transferring the account into her name, took out a couple of hundred dollars in cash, and stomped out of the bank, her hope
