Our Death
I lay weakly on the ground, struggling to focus on my surroundings. It was an abandoned factory, and Noah Net, my husband, stood before me, facing a group of lifeless Betas. His tailored suit hung open, revealing his muscular frame covered in gray hair, with traces of blood staining his sharp nails. His handsome face contorted with anger. He stepped forward, gripping one of the injured Betas by the neck and demanded, "Who sent you to harm Grace?" The Beta shook his head fearfully as Noah tightened his grip, causing him to gasp for air. In a feeble plea, he managed to croak, "Please... let me go! Henry... Henry Bean sent us to kill Ms. Grace!" Though weakened and teetering on the edge of consciousness, I heard the revelation clearly. Henry Bean! He was my ex-boyfriend and we had to separate because of my engagement to Noah. But how could he do this to me when I thought we were still in love so I used to go to him all the time? Earlier tonight, I had received a call from Henry, informing me that he had an accident and was admitted to the hospital. Rushing to his aid, tragedy struck midway as a large truck collided with my car. When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying within the walls of this desolate factory, surrounded by a dozen hostile Betas. In my desperation, I secretly reached out to Noah, who promptly arrived alone to rescue me. Noah cast the Beta aside and snarled, "I'm sparing your life so you can deliver a message to your employer. Tell him that I'll make him pay dearly for hurting Grace! He can prepare his own grave!" The factory door swung open once again, revealing Lucas Parker, Noah's loyal butler and fellow Beta. Horrified by our injuries, he exclaimed, "Good Lord! Young Master! Ma'am! We must return for immediate treatment!" As werewolves, our bodies possess unique healing capabilities, with minor wounds self-repairing and serious injuries requiring the attention of specialized doctors within our family. Noah disregarded Lucas, clutching me tightly and reassured, "Fear not, Grace. I'll take you home. I can heal you." He scooped me up into his arms and made his way towards the exit, followed closely by Lucas. As we departed, Noah nuzzled his furry chin against my face before turning to Lucas and commanding, "Find Henry and kill him. Dispose of those Beta corpses and feed them to the pigs."All this time, Noah has quietly put up with my relationship with Henry just to make me happy, and now that he knows the truth, he can't wait to kill Henry. His words dripped with icy determination, prompting me to glare at him in disbelief. *** Back at Sphere Manor, I underwent treatment from several werewolf healers, but to no avail. Noah anxiously waited outside the operating room before storming in and growling, "What's happening? Why can't you heal Grace?" The doctors and even a couple of witches surrounded my bed, knowing how much Noah cherished my life. They hurriedly gathered to update him, while the servants stood nearby, pale with fear. Finally, one doctor spoke up, "I'm terribly sorry, young master. Miss Grace isn't purely of werewolf bloodline, and her injuries are severe. We've exhausted all our efforts to revive her..." Noah's face twisted with distress, his thick eyebrows furrowing deeply. It was the first time I witnessed such an expression on him. He turned to one of the eldest wizards and pleaded, "Old Allen, there must be something you can do. Tell me what it takes to save Grace. I'd give everything I have." A silence fell over the crowd as the old wizard sighed and asked, "Are you certain, young master? Even if it means sacrificing your own life, are you truly sure?" Gasps echoed through the room, and Lucas rushed in, saying urgently, "Old Allen, what are you thinking? Young Master Noah is our future Alpha. We cannot afford to lose him!" Noah pushed him aside and stated firmly, "I won't exist in this world without Grace." Then he turned to Old Allen and requested, "Please, take my life. I'll trade it to bring Grace back. What preparations do I need to make?" Though my consciousness remained hazy, I heard their conversation clearly. I had never realized the depths of Noah's love for me. Noah approached me, tenderly grasping my hand and holding it close to his face. I could feel his warmth enveloping me. Then he led the way out, and soon my hospital bed was wheeled into the courtyard by the nurses. I tried to recognize my surroundings and found myself in a strange circular pattern. Similarly, a peculiar circular symbol adorned the ground in the center with a pile of white roses surrounding it. These were Mondial roses, my favorite, the sole flowers that grew at Sphere Manor. Yet, thousands of them had been gathered, and Noah stood amidst the sea of blossoms. A pungent odor reached my nostrils — gasoline. The roses were drenched in it! I struggled to sit up, attempting to stop him. A nurse stops me and several witches are chanting strange incantations around me and Noah. Then, Noah produced a lighter. What was his intention? I was alarmed. Werewolves dreaded fire! While they could heal from nearly any injury, flames were fatal to their kind. A werewolf consumed by fire will never regenerate! Noah ignited the lighter, then glanced at me, saying, "Grace, I love you. I want you to have a happy life." With those words, he flung the lighter towards the Mondials, instantly igniting the flames. "No!" I exclaimed desperately. The inferno engulfed Noah's entire body, yet he seemed impervious to pain. A smile graced his face as his eyes gently closed. I saw his lips move, repeatedly whispering, "I love you." Noah, I don't want you to die for me! Why are you being so foolish? I'm so sorry for how poorly I treated you before! Now I understand how much I truly love you, and I can't bear to let you go! I shouted with every ounce of strength, but my emotions overwhelmed me, causing me to faint.
