Love in the Air

“Sir?” Lucas stared at his boss in shock.

When he realized that his boss has made the final decision, he picked up the company laptop and was about to open the door when Sebastian stopped him all of a sudden

“What is it again, boss?” Lucas asked.

“I want you to make sure she feels at peace the moment she starts working here next week,” Sebastian said.

“Hmmm! I’m sensing love in the air, do you love her boss?” Lucas asked.

“I don’t know yet, but her resumption on Monday will determine if I love her or not and if you are going to start handling the company or not,” Sebastian said.

“I sense something already, but I’m not going to talk till she resumes. Have a nice weekend boss,” Lucas said and walked out of Sebastian’s office smiling.

The next morning, Chloe woke up with her eyes a bit swollen from the little tears she shed yesterday. She was still trying to wrap her head about how her morning routine would go when her laptop dinged signifying a new message.

“Jeez! I’m not expecting any message this early,” Chloe groaned as she stretched her hand and picked up her iPad. She thought of nowhere else other than her email as she opened it and saw a message from the Moon and Stars company.

“Is this a rejection letter? If not, why would they reply when it’s not even up to twenty-four hours I submitted my application,” Chloe thought shrugging her shoulders as she opened the email and met the shock of her life.

“Ahhh! An acceptance letter? It’s not up to twenty-four hours,” Chloe screamed as she happily jumped around her bed.

She still didn’t believe that her application letter could be responded to not to talk of accepting her as she jumped happily.

Now that Chloe got a job, she has somewhere to go and will stop staying at home all day. Chloe was eager to share the news with everyone around her. She didn’t care if she wore a revealing nightie as she ran out of her room happily not caring if anyone stared at her.

Chloe was looking everywhere for Adrian to share the good news to him, she thought he had gone off to his morning gym and was about to walk back into her room when she suddenly saw him sitting with in his living room with Vincent.

Chloe hurriedly rushed down the stairs to share the news with him. Adrian and Vincent suddenly turned to stare at the stairs when they heard footsteps running down the stairs and behold, it was Chloe in her night gown.

Vincent immediately looked away when he realized it was Chloe and in order not to get at his boss’s bad side. Adrian who was busy admiring her morning beauty suddenly became angry when he realized what she was wearing.

Chloe, on the other hand, was very eager to share the good news not noticing the change in Adrian’s expression.

“Good morning, Mr. Blake. I will know my place in this house just like you told me and that’s why I’ve……” Adrian didn’t wait for Chloe to finish what she was saying as he immediately interrupted her happiness.

“Check out what you are wearing and check what time it is. Are you supposed to be wearing this around the house?” Adrian asked, shutting her down with a cold voice and stare.

Immediately Adrian finished his statement and gave her a cold stare, she looked down to her dress and that was when it downed on her that she had been wearing a revealing night down all along.

Chloe covered some part of her body in shame as she ran back upstairs. He could have just heard the good news she had for him before shouting at her.

Even though Chloe had gone back to her room in shame, Adrian still maintained his cold and angry stare while Vincent, on the other hand, focused on the documents that were in front of him.

“I didn’t stare at her boss,” Vincent said defensively. He knew that Adrian is someone with short temper, but he just had to say something to clear himself out.

“I don’t care. For looking at her briefly when she was coming down the stairs, there will be no monthly bonus for you in two months,” Adrian said, not minding how badly Vincent felt that his monthly bonus has been cut for two months.

Vincent didn’t say anything, he just stared at the document in front of him.

But come to think of it, how is Chloe’s revealing clothe supposed to affect Vincent monthly bonus?

He wasn’t the one who told her to rush outside in a revealing clothe.

“Alright sir,” Vincent said, nodding his head.

He knew that arguing with Adrian will be of no use and he might end up cutting his salary.

“You can take your leave now Vincent, I have a few things to do upstairs,” Adrian said as he gently stood up.

“Alright sir, have a nice weekend,” Vincent said, bowing his head till Adrian was finally out of sight.

Vincent heaved out a heavy sigh knowing what Chloe was going to face in the hands of Adrian for not dressing well before running downstairs and additionally, his monthly bonus had to go with the punishment.

Vincent accepted his fate as he bid the maids farewell and walked out of Adrian’s house.

Chloe, on the other hand gently laid on the bed with her feet touching the floor as she thought of the scene that had unfolded before her very eyes just a few minutes ago and how Adrian embarrassed her.

She was till lost in deep thoughts when she suddenly heard heavy footsteps like that of Adrian coming towards her room. She listened carefully to make sure she was right with her instinct before jerking back to reality. Her heart started beating loudly and it felt like it was going to pierce out.

Chloe immediately stood up and ran to shut the door just before Adrian’s hand could touch it. She locked the door and threw the keys on her bed.

Adrian finally got to Chloe’s door and turned the knob only to realize it has been locked from inside.

“Open this door, Chloe,” Adrian screamed in his usual loud, cold, and angry tone that Chloe was even shivering from where she was standing.

Chloe held her chest tightly thinking it was going to fall off anytime soon with how fast it was beating.

“Should I open the door or not?” Chloe thought, as she sat on the floor shivering like a child who was beaten by rain.
