Five: HALSEY'S POV
After hours on the flight to Texas, we would finally arrive at Gary's family house.
The empire, as Gary had called the place was a vast land that ran into miles across an entire street. Even with my nerves, I still appreciated the beautiful mansion. It was a masterpiece. Truly befitting of someone like Gary's family members.
Several bodyguards approached us when the car stopped in the compound. I looked around in awe. Gary snapped me out of my reverie and took my hands in his.
As we slowly approached the main building, I recognized a familiar face which propelled a whole new level of anxiety in my nerve.
Christabel Ellsworth; the main source of pain in my marriage. It was because of her that I suffered more than necessary in the hands of my in-laws.
"Well....well...well. The prodigal son and a w***e decides to return home.“ She commented. "What did you say?" Gary asked, stopping directly in front of her. "Come on, say that again I dare you."
"Calm down big brother, I was only joking about you being a prodigal son."
Big brother? Is Gary a member of the Ellsworth family?
As they went on arguing, I realized that I had never asked Gary what his last name was.
"Wait...You are an Ellsworth?" My question made him swallow whatever he was about to say to Christabel.
"What do you mean by that? I am an Ellsworth." It all made sense now.
"Ah, I see. So she came here with you to spite Lewis? Well I am sorry to tell you this darling, but it won't work." Christabel chirped.
"Hold on." Gary turned to me in realization. "Your husband is Lewis?"
I couldn't look at him not while Christabel was back in my life. From frying pan to fire?
"We will talk about it inside." I said in a low tone. I don't want Christabel to see me cry.
"What is going on here." I turned around to see a man in his late sixty and a woman in the same age grade, come out to meet us.
"Dad, Mom, you won't believe what I'm about to tell you.“ Christabel begins and points at my direction. "Remember the w***e that didn't want to provide you with a grand child?" The man nodded, while staring at me. "Well there she is."
"Gary? Didn't know you were going to make it." The old man revealed, while trying to adjust his glasses.
"I was going to make it father. What I won't tolerate however is the sheer mockery from Christabel. I demand an apology!"
Gary's mother appeared to whisper something to Christabel's ears. Her smile dropped and she turned to me again.
"I may have gone out of line, insulting the both of you. I am sorry." I noticed how she gnashed her teeth in anger as she forced the words out of her mouth.
"Come in everyone, let's not sour the mood of the day." Gary's mother announced cheerfully, completely ignoring my presence.
Christabel gave me a stare that proved that we had unfinished business to settle. We stepped into the main house, revealing the heavy luxurious texture that has summed up the interior decoration. One of the maids ushered us through the long hallway, till we arrived at a section which clearly belongs to Gary.
"Start talking...." Gary ordered, as I closed the door behind.
I turned around to face him. He was seated on the King sized bed, anger radiating through the course of his body.
"I didn't know Lewis was your brother. We met by chance remember? Or maybe I should give you a quick reminder. You hit me with your car which was why you had to take me to the hospital. You didn't think to do a background check and even when you asked questions, I answered clearly. So you have no reason whatsoever to beangry. I didn't plan for this to happen.“
I observed Gary as my words got through to him. He studied me for a moment.
"I don't know how I'm going to answer my parents later when the issue of your marriage to Lewis is brought up. It is enough that they hate me,bringing you into the picture might just cause another bigger problem.“
I didn't understand what he meant, when he said they hated him. However, I remembered that Christabel referred to him as a prodigal son. Also, we didn't meet for the two years that I was married to his brother.
"Here is what is going to happen." He said, quickly coming up with a plan."We are going to act like everything is okay. I am already the black sheep of the family and I need someone to match myenergy, alright?“
I wanted to refuse the offer, but the thought of having my revenge on that bastard Lewis change my decision.
"Alright." He smiled and the thought of the fact that it might be me that made him happy made me kiss him for the second time.
"If you keep stealing kisses from me I would be forced to proceed further than just kisses." He said with a smirk and I playfully shoved him.
"Come on, let's show them what we got." He said stretching his hands, while I took it and fed off his confidence.
As we stepped out of the room, I head Lewis' and I thought my knees would betray me. J wobbled but Gary steadied me and squeezed my hand assurjngly. The moment we entered the dinning section, all the confidence I felt earlier disappeared. Even Gary was unmoving.
Lewis didn't come alone, he had brought Stacy with him.
"Gary?" Stacy called in disbelief, looking between me and him.
"Stacy." Gary's reply was cold and stern.
"Wait a minute!" Everyone turned to the door as Christabel had entered the place. She looked around the room and burst into series of laughter.
"Looks like a fair trade by batter." She exclaimed with her signature ugly laughter.
"What is she talking about?" I turned to look at Gary, who was staring hard at the ground.
"Funny how neither of you both know. Well, let me be the one to say it then." Christabel stepped forward gracefully and took her seat.
"Stacy is the ex girlfriend of my older brother Gary and Stacy happens to be friends to Halsey, who is the wife of my other brother Lewis.“
