A King and a Prince

*300 years before* Jacob was a busy man. He was the King of San Marino and father to his only child, Prince Alaric. He had many responsibilities, and he didn't have time to chase after his oldest brother. Fortunately, when Jacob presented James with the title Duke of Montale, James decided he would stay behind to fulfil his new duties as a Duke, aiding his brother the new king, the brothers would often write to eachother, when the castle received a letter from Mason, both James and Jacob would sit in the library and read the letter out loud together and once Alaric was old enough he also found himself enjoying hearing about his uncles adventures. A brown envelope was handed to the royal butler, who soon hurried to the dining hall were Jacob, James and Alaric were all sat, they had jusy finished their lunch when the butler entered the room, "A letter your highness, it is stamped as urgent." he said. "Please." Jacob said as he gestured the burler over. He knew urgent was reserved for a death or a marriage, and Mason was not a man who would be marrying. "What is it?" James said. "Mason is returning home." Jacob replied. Upon Masons return his brother James was eager to greet him they couldn't wait to hear all about his tales of Greece in person, and of course, his reasons for staying there for so long. James threw his arms around his brother, they climbed in to the carriage and were brought back to their brother Jacobs castle. Mason opened the door, and Jacob greeted his brother with open arms. Finally, Mason, James, and Jacob were reunited. Finally, back together again, they all sat in the royal library. The twins couldn't wait to hear all about their brothers' adventures. Jacob had a thought, Mason looked very youthful now sad beside James, he appeared to look younger than his little brother, Jacob could tell his brother had changed, after spending nine years in Greece with the Duke and Dutchess of Ailstone, Mason had returned a different man, "The lifestyle over there must have suited you, your appearance is very youthful for a man of the age of three and zero," Jacob said to his older brother. It was true, he still looked the same as the day he had left to meet the Duke and Dutchess, he was only supposed to stay for a few weeks but after the first week Mason sent a letter home to his younger brothers that he would be staying longer as he had met someone and fallen in love. "Well brother, did you manage to leave the castle even once while you were there?, you definitely stayed out of the sun. What did you do all that time you were there?" James asked. Mason was quite pale for a man who had spent the better part of a decade in a place famous for its warm weather. His pale skin stood out even more sitting next to his younger brothers, "It's the fair hair, You know I don't do well in the sun, brother." Mason replied. Before the brothers had a chance to ask any more questions, there was a knock at the door. "Come in." Mason called out, Emily entered the room, "I would like you to meet Dutchess Emily of Ailstone. "Mason said with a smile. *Present day* There was a knock at the front door. "Mason must have lost his key." James said. He turned to make his way down the stairs to let his brother in, but before he could get any further, actually, it's Ric, I invited him earlier today, looks like he is early." Jacob called out. He was already standing, "I think I will take him in to town and have dinner with him there. Let things cool down here," Jacob said. Jacob turned to Elizabeth, " For what it's worth, I hope you stay." Before she could reply, he exited her room. "And then there were two." James said awkwardly. "I am such an idiot." Elizabeth said, "Do you mind if I take a seat?" he asked. "Go for it." she replied. "For what it's worth, I hope you stay too." he said as he took a seat at the opposite end of her bed. She looked up at his face, his big brown eyes looking back at her, "I don't know," Elizabeth said. "I don't know if I can." She added. "Don't worry about Mason, if that is what is holding you back from making a decision." James blurted out. "It's not just that." she said with a deep exhail. "There is something about you, all three of you, I feel so... I don't know how to describe it," She whined. "I see." James replied, realising she could also sense the tention between the brothers and her he decided to confide in her. "I am going to tell you something, but I would prefer you kept it between me and you, infact it is imperative that you do." he said very seriously. *Mason's Pov* Mason was driving fast, his foot to the floor, and he was furious. How dare his boring little brothers dictate what he can and can't do. he thought to himself, "They would not be here if it wasn't for me!" he roared. "They would both be dead!" he continued, "I am the one to be turned first! I should have stayed in Greece, I should have left them behind, those ungrateful a*******s, so much for family!" he bashed his hand on the steering wheel, His music was turned to full volume, not paying attention to the road a rather large deer bolted out of the bush, Mason was going far too fast, he lost control. Slamming his foot on the break, his back wheels span out, losing control. The car crashed into the bushes. He was lucky they were there to protect the car from too much damage. He stepped out of the car to annalise the damage. Unfortunately for him, the back wheel was flat. It must have popped during the ordeal. "Damn deer!" He grunted. He didn't have a spare, He would need to call someone to pick him up and someone else to tow his car. Sitting at the side of the road too stubborn to ask for help from his two brothers he decided to wait there for a passer by, he had decided that he was going to catch a ride in to town, and stay the night in a bed and breakfast. Unfortunately for Mason, the first person to drive past him happened to be his brother Jacob. "Well, they don't look too good." Ric called out the window. "What an observation, Alaric, nothing gets past you, does it." Mason said with a smile on his face. "Want to come with us? We are going into town for something to eat." Ric asked. "I would, actually." Mason replied to his nephew, Mason, and Alaric had a lot in common, but the one thing on Masons' mind was the fact that Alaric preferred the taste of human blood too. The idea of heading into town to grab a bite to eat with his nephew sounded like a pretty good idea to him. Mason opened the back door and climbed in. "What brings you over this way then, Ric?" Mason asked. "Do I need a reason to see my favourite uncle?" Ric replied. " Have you calmed yourself down now, Mason?" Jacob asked. Mason ignored the question. "Where are we going to eat?" Mason said out loud. "Dad was hust saying he was so hungry he could eat a horse." Ric said. He burst into laughter, and Mason joined in. Once he caught his breath, "Sounds like something he would say." Mason said. "Call Rusty and ask him if he would be able to bring his tow truck out and take your car to the yard. You should be grateful the damage seems to be minimal." Jacob said to Mason. "I am a great driver." Mason said. "Looks it." Jacob replied. "Stop the car." Mason said. Jacob stopped the car, Mason opened the door, climbed out and began to walk away, "I am going to walk home. You two enjoy your meal."
