Gathering her thoughts, Elizabeth began to feel her heart calm. It was beating so hard from the feeling of being caught off guard, despite not actually doing anything wrong. She bent down to pick the book up and placed it on the desk, she could not recall what page it was left on so she left it closed and decided to explain that the book fell when James returned, it felt simpler to do so rather than to attempt to pick a page and leave it open as it would almost certainly be the wrong one.
There was a tap at the window, a little black cat, with piercing yellow eyes. She walked over to the window and opened it. "You must be Maive, I read about you, you catch the mice, and I am to feed you in the evening." Elizabeth beamed, Maive looked just like her childhood pet, which brought back fond memories. Meowing as she was being stroked by this kind stranger, Maive looked up and then rolled on to her side, revealing her belly, which had a small white patch.
Making her way back to the kitchen, Elizabeth was followed by her new friend, she picked up the bowl of water in the corner of the room, rinsing it in the white Belfast sink, before replacing the water and returning it to its original position. Seemingly unbothered, the cat walked straight past the fresh bowl of water before jumping up onto the kitchen side and out the kitchen window, how very cat-like indeed.
"Well, it appears you have met everyone." Mason chuckled as he entered the room. "Looks like it." Elizabeth replied. " How are you finding things?" Mason asked. Did he actually care? he sounded sincere. "Not bad for a first day. I am already ahead of the cleaning, so I am going to make a start on dinner." She replied, smiling. "Well, it should be easy enough. The woman doing the job before you was more than double your age, if she could manage it, I am sure you will find the job to be a walk in the park." he said. The statement sounded very backhanded and rude.
Not entertaining the idea that he was trying to provoke her in some way Elizabeth smiled and gave a nod of acknowledgement, but thought to herself, What a d**k. She opened the cupboard to gather ingredients. She had come across men like him before, so good-looking they believe their personality can be cruel and unforgiving and then still be perceived as a 'good guy' by occasionally acting like a human being. Some people really do rely on their good looks, which Mason most certainly seemed to be doing.
"We are missing tomatoes, I will head into town to pick some up." Elizabeth stated. "I have something I need to grab, so I will drive us there." Mason replied. Not trying to be difficult Elizabeth nodded agreeing to his statement, only after she gave the nod did she find herself truly acknowledging the fact that she will now have to spend the next half hour trapped in a car with him, her feelings conflicted, why did someone so attractive have to be so rude.
Both heading to the door, he managed to get there first, opening it up for Elizabeth to walk through. Why would he bother? She thought to herself. She made her way to the cars and waited while he locked the door behind him and he pulled out his keys, the lights to the mustang flashed, ofcourse out of all the cars his would be the mustang.
He turned on the radio, and they began heading into town. The route was beautiful and scenic, Elizabeth arrived at night, so she didn't get to take in the wonderful views that were now surrounding her. She looked out the window with her hands on her lap, keeping her skirt from moving. The air conditioning was turned up to full, and it was making it very difficult to concentrate. "Could you turn the Air-con down, please?" she asked politely. "Of course." he replied. After a few minutes with the air-conditioning off, the smell of lavander began to fill the car. It was her perfume. Mason loved the smell of lavander. It reminded him of a time long forgotten, his youth.
*past*
Picking up the last stem of lavander, he ran back to the cottage, "Mum, Mum." Called Mason excitedly, a tall beautiful blonde lady with a long brown skirt and purple vest was stood by the stove stirring a pot of near boiling water, Mason handed her the basket filled with fresh lavander he had been picking all day, and she began placing the lavander in the pot. Soon, the room filled with the wonderful aroma. Masons father walked through the door, " Hello dear." his father said as he made his way over to his wife and kissed her gently on her cheek before picking Mason up and placing him on his hip, "how are you doing, son?" his father beamed with joy. "I missed you dad, how was work? Did you bring me back another book?" Mason yelled eagerly. "Of course!" his father replied handing Mason the brand new book, Mason ran to the dinner table and set the book down preparing to start his new adventure, he read the title, The Blue eyed Princess, he looked up at his mother, the title made him think of her. "Wash your hands. Dinner is ready. You can read that with me later." his mum enjoyed when Mason would read to her, " I want to make sure you are a strong reader so you can read to your brother or sister when they arrive!" she beamed excitedly.
The memory faded as he was pulled back to reality by a separate scent, he could smell honey, his heated seats had been warming her up and being in his presence was turning her on, despite his rude demeanor she was so attracted to him, she looked at his big hands on the steering wheel thinking of how good they would feel inside of her. She shook her head, shaking away the intrusive thoughts, what has got in to me, she thought to herself, by this point Mason couldn't help but smell her aroma, and it was turning him on, I think she likes the heated seats, I know i do... he smiled to himself, biting his bottom lip.
They arrived at the market and he walked her to to fresh produce stall he gave her his wallet and told her to get what she needed and If there was anything she wanted for her self to grab that too and that he would be back in a few moments, she selected the ripest tomatoes to be used in the dish today and then some blackberry's and strawberries that she just couldn't resist, she decided she would bake a pie for dessert. Just as she was handed the bag Mason returned, he took the bag from her and escorted her to the car, opening the door to her side, she climbed in and he gently closed the door, he placed the bag on the back seat and they made their way back.
Once they arrived home he got out, went to her side and opened her door, before reaching in to the back and grabbing the bag of produce, she climbed out and made her way to the front door, but had not been given a key to unlock the door so she wiated patiently. Mason unlocked the door and set the bag on the table. He reached over to a set of keys that James had left on the worktop, Mason handed them to her, "Sorry I forgot to give these to you earlier." he said.
"Would you mind taking this to the study?" he handed her a brown envelope, she took it and made her way to the study, "Don't worry about dinner, I will make it, you put your feet up, go grab a book, there are so many to choose from." Mason urged. Why was he being so nice? She opened the study door, placing the envelope by the closed book. Something on the floor caught her eye. It was the piece of paper from earlier. She picked it up. It had something writing on it. She began to read, "You are the cool breeze on a summers day, the glass of wine on a Sunday evening. You are my favourite book I will never get bored of." Elizabeth turned over the piece of paper, "Love, Emily."
