I stood in the living room, my arms crossed over my chest, as Sophia, Jaxon's ex-girlfriend, sauntered in like she owned the place. Jaxon and his father left for a business meeting and I am very sure that Jaxon knew about her coming. He only wants to hurt me with it but definitely, I don't care. Now I am left to deal with this woman.
“Aurora, darling," Sophia said, her voice dripping with condescension. "It's so nice to finally meet you. I've heard so much about you."
I raised an eyebrow. "I'm sure you have."
Sophia smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Yes, Jaxon has told me all about your arrangement."
I felt a surge of anger at her words, but I kept my cool. "I'm sure he has," I repeated, my voice even.
Sophia took a step closer to me, her voice taking on a confrontational tone. "You know, Aurora I have to say, I'm a little surprised. I didn't think Jaxon would ever settle for someone like you."
I felt my anger boil over, but I kept my cool. "Someone like me?" I repeated, my voice dripping with venom. "What exactly do you mean by that?"
Sophia smiled again, her eyes glinting with malice. "Oh, I think you know exactly what I mean. You're not exactly Jaxon's type, are you?"
I took a step closer to her, my heart pounding in my chest. "Listen, Sophia," I said, my voice low and even. "I don't know what your problem is, but I'm warning you: stay in your lane. Jaxon and I may not have a conventional marriage, but I am not ready to harbor someone like you in this house. And if you think you can just waltz in here and cause trouble, you're sadly mistaken."
Sophia's smile faltered for a moment, but then she regained her composure. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
I smiled a cold, hard smile. "You should be," I said, my voice even.
And with that, I turned and walked away, leaving Sophia standing alone in the living room. But as I reached the door, I heard Sophia's voice behind me.
"This isn't over, Aurora," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "Not by a long shot."
I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. What did she mean by that? And what was she planning?
I turned to face her, then smiled a bit before stepping out of the house.
I bump into Jaxon who was on a call as I roll my eyes before entering the car and driving off.
His business isn't mine, he should just respect the fact that I am at home with him.
I packed in front of the house stepped out of the car, as I head towards the building.
“Hey Dad!” I said as I gave him a peck. Even though I still haven't forgiven for what he did to me, I still love him as my father.
“Aurora darling, how are you doing sweetie?” He replied as I hummed in affirmation.
I settled into the plush couch in our living room, surrounded by the warm glow of table lamps and the gentle hum of the TV in the background.
"So, Aurora, tell us about Jaxon," my father said, his voice laced with a hint of concern. "How's married life treating you?"
I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "It's fine, Dad. I'm sure you should know how it is, you sold me to him remember? So I guess we are good 'cause we don't see each other that much, though."
Ava's eyes widened with excitement. "Oh, Aurora, You're like, living separate lives, but still married!"
I rolled my eyes good-naturedly. “Ava, it's not romantic, it's just practical. We're married for business reasons, not love."
My father nodded thoughtfully. "I see. Well, as long as you're happy, Aurora, that's all that matters."
“When have I told you that I am happy? I am a living dead in that house so what you should be telling me now is how we can pay off the debt so I can end this b*****e called marriage.” I said as they just hummed.
Just then, the TV caught our attention. The news anchor's serious tone and the headline on the screen made my heart skip a beat: "Breaking News: Business Tycoon Jaxon Shadow Embroiled in Scandal".
I felt a surge of shock and curiosity. What scandal could Jaxon possibly be involved in?
Even though I don't have feelings for him, still I don't feel so comfortable about it.
How could this possibly happen when everything was going smoothly before I left the house?
The news anchor continued to speak, her words sending a chill down my spine. "According to sources, Jaxon Shadow has been accused by an employee who claimed he was into s****l acts with her. The victim further said he attempted to r**e her when she refused."
My eyes widened in horror as I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. r**e? Jaxon? It couldn't be true.
I haven't spent much time with him but I can bet on anything that he will never do such a thing. He might be a womanizer but r**e is something he will never involve himself in.
My father and Ava were staring at me, their faces filled with concern. “Aurora, are you okay?" my father asked.
But before I could respond, the news anchor dropped another bombshell.
"And in a shocking twist, sources close to the investigation have revealed that Jaxon's wife, Aurora, may also be implicated in the scandal..."
My heart stopped. Implicated? What did they mean? What is my connection with the issue? How am I involved in the r**e scandal.
The news viewed the so-called victim I felt so irritated: His wife knew about all his scandal and she said offered me some money if I refused to speak of the act to anyone.”
The room around me began to spin, and I felt like I was going to pass out. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, shrill and insistent.
"I'll get it," Ava said, jumping up from the couch.
But as she walked towards the door, I felt a sense of foreboding. Who could it be? And what did they want?
As Ava opened the door, a tall, imposing figure loomed at the entrance. His eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
“Aurora Shadow," he said, his voice low and menacing. "We need to talk."
I heaved a deep sigh!
