CHAPTER 2
Why don’t we continue the tour?” Alexander suggested, his protective tone evident as he led them away from Jameson’s looming presence.
As the days turned into weeks, the wedding preparation took over Sophia's life completely. Each evening she immersed herself in the studio that Alexander had thoughtfully set up for her, developed by vibrant canvases and rich paints, desperately trying to escape the chaos of her reality. But still, the shadow of her impending marriage hovered above her, an ominous cloud that refused to dissipate
One evening, as she lost herself in painting the New York skyline, Alexander stepped into the studio, leaning against the doorframe with a relaxed confidence. ‘What's the Masterpiece idea you're working on today?’ He asked, his genuine smile illuminating the room.
“Just trying to capture some beauty,” Sophia replied, glancing at him. “It’s hard to find in a world that feels so… constricted.”
His expression softened, and he stepped closer, studying her work. “You have a gift, Sophia. You perceive the word through a unique lens, and that's a treasure worth holding unto.”
Thank you so much for your well-spoken, kind words, she replied, I truly value your support. To be honest, I'm beginning to feel swamped, and I'm uncertain how much more I can bear. Each brush stroke seems to echo what I'm losing, and it's getting harder on me. Honestly.
“Losing?” Alexander asked, his brow furrowing in concern. “What do you mean?”
“I mean this marriage… it’s not what I wanted. I feel like I’m being suffocated by expectations.” She paused, her heart racing as she laid bare her feelings. “I never asked for this life."
"I understand it's a struggle,” he replied, his voice dropping to a sincere whisper, “ But perhaps we can discover a way to make it all come together.” You don’t have to lose yourself in this.”
Before she could respond, Jameson entered the studio, his presence instantly darkening the mood. “Ah, just the two of you. How cozy,” he drawled, his eyes glinting with malicious intent.
“Jameson, we were just—” Alexander began, but Jameson cut him off.
“Talking about how to navigate the inevitable complications of your union? You know, Sophia, marrying Alexander isn't merely about love. It's a strategic alliance, a business arrangement that Carries weight and implications. You'd be wise to carry that in mind as you navigate this path. His smile was predatory, digging into her insecurities.
Sophia felt a rush of heat in her cheeks, a blend of rage and embarrassment. " I might not have chosen this life for myself," she retorted, her voice steady and fierce, “but I refuse to be treated like just another asset.” The power of her words took her by surprise, sparking a fire inside of her that she never realized was there.
Jameson raised his eyebrow, pretending to be smiling, but the spark in his eyes revealed a deeper truth lurking beneath the surface of the earth. I like that, ‘he said. ‘ Just a reminder, sweetheart, you're treading in deep Oceans; you'd better be a good swimmer, or else you might just drown.
With that, he left his presence, his shadows hanging in the air, leaving an uneasy silence in his path, heavy and noticeable.
Sophia turned to Alexander, her heart pounding. “Is he always like that?”
“Jameson thrives on power plays,” Alexander replied, his jaw clenched. “I’ll handle him. Take no notice of him.”
“Easy for you to say,” she snapped, frustration bubbling to the surface. “You’re not the one being thrown into this… this shark tank!”
“I'm trying to keep you safe,” he said, his voice getting a bit louder. “ This world is ruthless, and It will be bad for me to let anyone harm you, especially not him. Okay?”
Sofia’s heart softened at his concern, yet the weight of her situation pressed down on her. “I just want to paint, Alexander. I want to be free.”
He stepped closer, his eyes searching hers. “Then let’s find that freedom together.”
As days became a blur of frantic preparation, as the wedding date drew nearer. In the middle of the turmoil, Sophia found comfort in her art, channeling her feelings onto the canvas just to escape the overwhelming reality of her upcoming marriage with ALEXANDER STEELE. Yet, the suffocating sense of being confined in a beautiful prison lingered, especially with Jameson's presence looming in the environment.
As the wedding day began to approach nearer, she started noticing subtle distance in ALEXANDER’S behavior. He often seems preoccupied, his thoughts drifting far away. One evening, while she was immersed in her painting beneath the gentle illumination of her studio lights, she suddenly heard the swing open.
“Hey," he said, his voice filled with excitement And a hint of worry. “ I have been wanting to discuss something with you.”
Sophia quickly dropped her brush, and immediately, she became nervous. “What is going on?” “She asked?”
“It's about the wedding," he started, pausing as if he was trying to find the right way to express himself. ‘I want us to build a genuine partnership, not just pretend for appearance. But you know some influential people might not approve of our relationship.
“Like Jameson?” Sophia asked, her stomach knotting at the mention of his name.
“Exactly. He’s ambitious and ruthless. He sees you as a pawn in a game he wants to win,” Alexander said, his expression hardening. “I have my doubts about him and you should be cautious too.”
“What do you think we should do?" She inquired, her toon calm even as anxiety began to rise within her.
“We need to keep our plans to ourselves. I want to delay the wedding for a bit, give us time to strategize and figure out how to deal with Jameson,” he said, his blue eyes serious.
“Delay the wedding?” Sophia experienced a wave of hope, Are you saying I don't have to do this immediately?
“Exactly. We can unite and figure out how to deal with this.” Really? Okay.
