Chapter 21 We Are All Civilized People

Kadir Foxon loved the word “do”, which gave him some bedroom imagination. His glance was burning when he said that word and Daisy’s face blushed under his hot glance. She looked down at the floor to avoid his eyes. “Mr. Foxon, the payment was due quite a long time ago. When do you think you can pay for that? If you won’t pay it soon, I will be fired.” Think of being fired, sadness appeared on her face. She was telling the truth, but Kadir thought she was trying to touch him. It was good that she wanted to touch him. That meant he had chances. “Well,” the man rubbed his forehead and appeared to be very vexed. “It’s difficult for us. Our business is not doing well lately. The cash flow is slow. I do want to help Miss Lavin, but…it is out of my hand! To tell you the truth, we have a lot of uncollected payment too. I am distressed by that problem every day…” “But…you said you would pay as soon as you received the products. You should keep your word so that we can continue to do business with you.” Daisy was simple-minded and she talked innocently, which aroused the stronger desire of Kadir. The women he usually met were the kind similar to his coquettish receptionist Lucy. He rarely had the chance to see a girl as innocent as Daisy. In fact, not to mention that in Kadir’s social circle, even in the whole society nowadays, such innocent girls were scarce. The fire of desire thus was burning fiercely. He said brazenly, “Then why don’t you come to work in our company, Miss Lavin? The remuneration is negotiable. I happen to need a secretary. I think Miss Lavin is very suitable for this position.” “Thanks for your kind offering, Mr. Foxon, but I think the job in Watson Group is more suitable for me. If you can’t make the payment now, then we will not waste your time. I hope you can pay us soon after you have enough cash flow.” Daisy didn’t have much hope for success. The lascivious look on Kadir’s face frightened her and she wished to leave that scary place as soon as possible. “Don’t be so hurried, Miss Lavin. Let me see what I can do. Well, I will have dinner with a few friends of mine. They all owe me some money. If you go with me to the dinner, I will collect the money from them and then pay you. Do you think it is workable?” When Kadir saw Daisy was going to leave, he stood up hastily to block Daisy’s way. Daisy wasn’t too stupid to see through Kadir’s scheme. As she was about to refuse, Marlow who had been silent since he came in opened his mouth. He walked ahead and said with a grin, “Dinner? I love it. What restaurant? How’s the food there? Why don’t we go now? I’m a little hungry now. But I have to make it clear in advance. Daisy’s appearance fee is twenty thousand and mine ten thousand. No money, no deal.” “Marlow!” Daisy’s face turned red because of anxiety. She didn’t expect that Marlow would be such a stupid teammate. Kadir was furious too. He snapped at him, “Who the hell are you? I am talking with Miss Lavin, not you.” Marlow didn’t want to argue with him. He turned to speak to Daisy. “Let’s get out of here, Daisy. He has no sincerity at all. A big boss can’t afford to pay tens of thousand dollars.” Daisy gave an anxious glance to Kadir. Strangely Kadir just sneered and didn’t try to stop them. Daisy didn’t think further and winked at Marlow to leave. She was eager to leave this troublesome place. After they stepped out of Kadir’s office, she blamed Marlow in a low voice, “I’ve told you not to speak rashly. You almost made us not able to leave…Marlow!” She gave out a muffled cry and stared ahead. It seemed that they wouldn’t be able to leave. She was sure they couldn’t leave now. As soon as they got downstairs, they saw the gangsters stopped gambling. They were all standing there with their arms folded. It seemed they had been waiting for them for some time. Kadir appeared by the rail of the corridor on the second floor. “Make that boy a disabled man. Leave the girl alone. Don’t touch her.” “Mr. Foxon, please let us go. We don’t want you to make the payment. Or just let him leave. I will go to the dinner with you this evening…” Daisy was so anxious that her tears almost came out. But before she could finish her words, Marlow interrupted her. “I have to go to the dinner too if you go. We are people with principles. We won’t go to the dinner without appearance fee.” Kadir sneered and said from above, “A glib guy! But I am not sure if the rest part of your body is as good as your tongue. Boys, don’t pull your punches. We can throw the corpse into the river if necessary.” “Wait, Boss! Just a minute. Can I say a word?” Marlow shouted hastily. “Okay.” The feeling of having somebody’s life in his hand did feel terrific. So Kadir agreed generously with a wave of his arm. “You see, Daisy is a lady. I am afraid the bloody scene of fighting is too much for her delicate nerves. Can you have that girl take her to another place? You can take her hostage. After we settle the problem here, you let her leave with me, okay?” “No problem. Lucy, Lily, and Fanny, you three take Miss Lavin to another room. Remember, treat her nicely.” Kadir agreed with Marlow’s request readily and ordered the clerks to take Daisy away immediately. He wouldn’t like to let Daisy stay here either, because she was so innocent and pure. Even if Marlow didn’t request that, he would do so voluntarily as he wouldn’t like her to be tainted by the dirty facts of this circle. “No, no! Marlow, you can’t do this to me!” The innocent Daisy realized she had been betrayed by the person she trusted and she was sad. But with her little strength, struggling was in vain. She was almost carried away by the three coquettish women. “Okay, let’s begin. Do you want to come to me one by one or all together? But I have to be clear with you in advance. My fee will be charged based on heads. Ten thousand dollars per head. So either you come one by one or all together at the same time, I will charge ten thousand dollars for each person who participates in the fight. If you think it’s expensive, you can quit the fight. No bargain after the fight…” “f*****g blabbermouth! Shut up! I hate this kind of i***t!” A lanky guy with brush-cut hair had no patience to wait until Marlow finished his words and threw a punch at him. He rushed to Marlow quickly but he fell down also quickly. Marlow’s movement seemed not quick either and he seemed to have not used much strength, but the lanky guy flew out and landed on the floor about five meters away. He stayed on the ground wailing. The faces of the others who stood by and watched changed their color, but Marlow looked as if nothing had happened. He chuckled and said, “Sorry, I forgot to mention one thing. If anyone speaks in foul language or attacks my family verbally, additional ten thousand will be charged. We are all civilized people. Please use Christian English. Don’t disgrace your mother who brought you up.”
