Chapter eighteen

Brian's Point Of View

While Slyverken was giving her speech, I pin pointed four rogues about twenty yards from the Southeastern border, listening intently, looks like this four are scouts, sent to survey the terrain before the main force attacks but unfortunately for them, they will not be leaving here alive. I mind linked Lewis and Jerkins to find out if they have smelt them. They reported in the affirmative, discreetly they dispatched some of our men to cut off all likely escape routes for our guests. As I mounted the stage to address the pack, I received confirmation that my men were in place,let the games begin. " Good evening, members of the Moonlight Pack, I am sure you are all wondering how it is possible that the Omega of Atlanta,is an Armstrong and not just any Armstrong but the Armstrong heir, just know this my real identify has been a well kept secret but before I bore you with the details, you need to know that as of this moment, four rogue scouts are approximately twenty yards outside the Southeastern border, they dared to come this close due to the fact that we have relaxed security but do not panic for they will not leave this turf alive, Alphas Ripley, Ironside, McNally and Denise, Beta Lewis, Commander Jerkins it is time to activate the plan, wait they are retreating, move now"the whole pack snapped their heads as one towards the direction I indicated and there was gasps when they realized I was right. This said I took off my shirt, jumped and shifted in mid air and left leaping over everything in my path, heading straight for the Southeastern border with Alphas Ripley, Ironside, McNally and Denise, Beta Lewis and Commander Jerkins right behind me, there were screams and gasps from the pack and I heard Slyverken issuing instructions and within seconds the whole pack had shifted and was hard on our heels, it took Slyverken a few minutes but she landed right beside me as we made the approach. "Jerkins give the order, they should be surrounded now but our men are not to engage" ' yes, Alpha' "what's the plan Brian?" "it is relatively simple, Sly eliminate them before they can report what ever they have learnt. That is if this is not a distraction, did you ask a few warriors to stay behind and report any sign of trouble?"  " Of course, that is elementary" as we approached I realized they were seriously trying to fight their way through the barricade, my men had formed a ring around them, they snapped at them, tried to attack them but my men simply dodged the attacks and tightened the ring around them. I shifted back and approached them I said in my best imitation of a spoilt brat voice using my Alpha voice " well,well, what do we have here, four spies caught because they were too sloppy? Or is it because they were too c**k sure if themselves that they let their guard down? Either way you have been caught and before you die, I need to know something from you" their leader snapped at me and growled, I smiled and Alpha commanded him to shift, he whimpered but shifted all the same,he looked at me with death in his eyes and his voice was cold as he replied' you think you are something special because you can Alpha command obedience from anyone who has a weaker will than you?'  ' Brandon, if it isn't you,who else would it be? You have become a torn in my side you know?, you do not just know when you to give up do you? Randy, I would not send that mind link if I were you. Do not be so surprised, that is just the tip of the iceberg on my skills and talents.You do not believe me? Jerkins choke him." And before he could take a step back, Jerkins moved like lightening and held him in choking grip, whiles simultaneously Lewis and Ironside took down the other two guys killing them instantly,leaving Brandon standing alone. 'Hey, that is not fair, we were having a reasonable conversation,why kill this two and your man is choking the life out of the other and how the hell did you even know he was sending a mind link whiles you are not his Alpha? And is he not the head of the assassin pack paid to kill you?' there were gasps of surprise from everyone including Slyverken except myself, Lewis and Alphas Ripley, Ironside and Denise, heads turned towards Jerkins who only tightened his grip on poor Randy's throat "am surprised, you should ask, are you not aware of the kind of wolf capable of such feats? And yes, he is the one though do not be surprised I defeated him and his pack,as he was not a born Alpha, accepting me as his Alpha was relatively easy" 'impossible!! The Lycan line ended generations ago, you can't possibly be one, that is just impossible' "not everything is as impossible as you seem to think my dear Brandon,one female Lycan survived and I am her grandson but do not ask me about things like that, I am still trying to understand them myself, now back to the reason why Randy here is dying a slow and painful death, let me inform you that the backup four flanking us from the right side are dead already and that reminds me, Ruby, thanks for taking them out, now please no more hiding, you can show yourselves"  Randy's eyes were bulging out and he was slowly dying, Jerkins on the other hand tightened his grip and realized it only when, he (Randy) slumped dead in his hands, he dropped him and returned back to my side. Ruby and Cercie came out of the woods looking sheepishly pleased with themselves "wow, Bunny berry, you do invite quite the trouble everywhere you go. How did you guess I was in the neighborhood? And we have more company inbound' "yeah, I kind of knew that already and ooh it was easy, did you think I was not aware of you following us all the way from the pack? Come on, what do you take me for? I was Omega of Atlanta for eight years,things like this do not get by me without my knowledge. You gave us a hundred meters headstart before following, you never miss an opportunity to spy on me that is for sure." ' do not flatter yourself, boo, you were tense and I have never seen you that tense, I knew something was up,so I decided to follow you just to make sure no one springs a quick one on you. No offense my queen' " none taken, though I am not surprised, I was disturbed myself when I sensed Brian's unease but if there is something I learnt from my stay with Brian all this years, it is never to ask questions but be prepared for anything,so dear sister in-law, I was more than ready for anything" "wait what?? Did you just address me as sister in-law?"  "Ladies, can the chit chat" "Cercie, are you telling me she does not know who she is?"  ' your highness, there has never been a right time. My apologies' " well, it is late now, Ruby, your real name is Ruby DeVille of the DeVille pack of Washington DC and I will fill you in on the history later after taking care of this situation" meanwhile Brandon was agitated at been ignored ' hey, Brian do not just ignore me like I do not exist, you killed my family,my son, mate and now you have killed seven of my men, you have to pay for that' " ooh, spare me, your family was sadistic, you guys enjoy hunting humans, your son was a r****t and you know it is against the law,my job as Omega then was to enforce the law, so that is just what I did. You were lucky to have escaped yourself but that is because you were out scouting for new prey and gave my men the slip when they tracked you down, plus I have been looking for you for a while now, I have always wondered where you suddenly disappeared to, now I understand, someone has kept you on a tight leash and only one person can do something like that, Alpha Harris very ingenious of him" ' I joined them willingly, and not because of the monetary gain, all I wanted was a chance to get even with you and today my chance has presented it itself, plus are we not predators? It is our nature to hunt and it does not matter who or what the prey is' " ooh we shall fight alright but is that before or after the remainder of the three hundred wolves under your command attack or retreat. And, in case you have forgotten,we have a written rule with the human authorities not to prey on their citizens, plus it is inhumane to hunt people who are just like us. Just because we have superior abilities does not mean we should prey on those weaker than us.Let us cut the chase,call them forward"  " Slyverken, how many warriors do we have here?" " Around five hundred" " good"  " ooh you want a fight, I can keep you occupied for a long time, my dear Brian""of course, you will try everything in your power to keep me occupied whiles the main force attacks my pack using the tripod formation? Do not even try it, it will not work. Before you can even think of doing so, I will cut through you and your men like butter and besides my Alpha Pack with two thousand plus warrior wolves are more than capable of holding the fort until I get back" his jaw dropped visibly at this news, it seems they did not expect me to be this prepared, his face contorted in anger  as he recovered himself quickly and shouted 'attaaack!!!'  we heard paws hitting the ground in thunderous waves indicating two hundred and ninety three wolves have answered the call to arms. " Warriors of the Moonlight Pack, today you face your biggest test. Today you earn your strips and the bragging rights to be called the best of the best, two hundred and fifty of you move to the front, the remaining two hundred and fifty surround the women, children and elderly, protect them. Today,we fight for our pack, our children, our mates, our future, show no mercy, give no quarter" as the enemy army grew closer, I gave the order "engageee!!!!"  I shifted and with a thunderous howl I joined the fight, every wolf in the Moonlight Pack joined in the howling as we charged and met the incoming army head-on. Brandon had already shifted and was heading straight towards me, I veered off course in order to avoid his claws, that would have torn out a few muscles in my face, I turned towards him and launched myself at him catching him off guard, I sinked my right claws in his left hind leg, he snapped his teeth at my exposed arm barely missing by inches as I withdrew my claws only seconds earlier meanwhile the battle was raging on around us, I saw Jerkins tore through a group of four rogues like cheese, Slyverken sinking her teeth in the throat of the rogue she was attacking killing him instantly,Lewis grouch out the eyes of the rogue wolf that attacked him from behind, Ironside cut open the wolf attacking him, Ripley destroying everything in his path, McNally casually leaping from an attack like it was an everyday thing and Denise single handedly making a pathway with the wolves in his line of vision. Brandon on the other hand,is bleeding from the wound I gave him, he turned towards me and attacked again intending to sink his teeth in me, I dodged to the right and kicked out with my feet catching him squarely on the chest,where my claws left a new trail of blood leaking wounds, the warriors of the Moonlight Pack held their positions protecting the elderly, women and children,most who are witnessing a full on battle for the first time in their lives. Brandon is badly injured and is bleeding profusely from his wounds but he is still being driven on by the need for revenge, he attacked again,this time successfully ripping off some of the muscles on my left arm, I turned and landed my right claws in his stomach, ripping it apart, he shuddered but still continued fighting, now I truly admired the cold determination with which he still fights, this is a guy who has nothing to lose and is willing to continue until death,in that case it is time to end this battle. I attacked him by launching myself in the air, changed course midair and sinked my teeth in his throat and ripped out his throat muscles and his pharyngeal tube killing him right away,his lifeless body laid at my feet , I turned and saw  that the battle was over with the bodies of the rogues thrown everywhere, not even one survived,I howled and everyone joined in,we are victorious but this victory is short lived as I instantly remembered that the bigger battle is yet to fought, I stretched my limbs wincing at the pain in my left shoulder and addressed everyone present through the pack link  present warriors and members of the Moonlight Pack, today we have won a great victory but now is not the time to celebrate for there is a bigger battle to be won, luckily for us,we did not sustain a lot of injuries and none of our people died in this war, for that I am eternally grateful to the Moon goddess, now your part in this war is done, take this time to tend to the injured and if the Moon goddess wills it come tomorrow we would celebrate the greatest victory in history, now let us return back home as preparations are being made for tomorrow" I closed the link and led the way with Slyverken,Alpha Riddick,Beta Jones walking alongside me, with Lewis, Michelle and Jerkins flanking us, whiles Alphas Ripley, Ironside, McNally and Denise followed right behind us, the pack fell in line as we all walked back to the Moonlight Pack grounds. Alpha Riddick, Slyverken's dad sent a mind link my way 'Alpha King Brian, your dad,Alpha Jon would be proud if he was here today to witness you in battle' " thanks father in-law and my apologies for dragging your pack into this war and also for that introducing myself properly before marking your daughter" ' there is nothing to apologise for,my pack is yours and I am proud that my daughter has you for a mate and now, she is the official queen of your kingdom and I am honored to be a part of this very kingdom and being your father in-law and surrogate father after the death of your parents, my apologies for bringing up the painful memories though' " between fathers and sons there is no room for apologies and their death though tragic gave me the strength to become better person and King. Their sacrifice and that of the hundreds who died that night will not be in vain, that I guarantee you, Alpha Harris, Alpha Red and Alpha Gin will pay for what they did" my eyes were blazing as I said this' now that is the spirit' we continued our journey in silence with Slyverken stealing glances at me every few minutes, I wonder why.

Chapter nineteen

Slyverken's Point Of View

Throughout the entire battle, I could sense the deep rooted hatred, Brian has for Alphas Harris, Red and Gin. It clearly showed in the way he fought Brandon, it felt like he was drawing out the kill, he wanted to toy with him before killing him. It was apparent that Brandon was no match for him from the word go, he could have ended the fight in a matter of seconds with a blow but he allowed Brandon to attack and attack until he (Brandon) was out of moves and badly injured before finishing him. Brian has changed alot in the three years we have been apart, he is now more ruthless, daring and one hell of a fighter but one thing bothers me, If he is this way with a mere pawn in this war, I can only imagine what he would be like when he meets the Alphas responsible for the destruction of his pack and the death of his parents and this war, I shudder to think of what he would do to each and every one of them. I mind linked Lewis privately " Lewis is Brian always this calm after a battle, even though he is hurt and does not want me to know about it?" ' Luna,Alpha is usually quick at healing, maybe it is his Alpha genes or maybe it has something to do with his bloodline,he heals quickly,way quicker than any regular wolf. He does not want you to know because he cannot afford to have you worried about him not being fit enough to partake in the upcoming battle that would take place at dawn as you are already aware. From experience I can tell you, those Alphas do not have any idea that by choosing to attack him, they have awaken a sleeping beast and Alpha would not be fighting this battle as Brian Armstrong, heir and Alpha of the Red moon Pack but as Alpha King Brian Armstrong and Alpha King Brian would not be showing any mercy and that is very frightening' " in that case I have nothing to worry about" ' Yes, Luna'  okay, that explains alot, we are a few yards away from my pack grounds, chancing a glance at Brian, I realized his wound was almost healed, Lewis was right after all.

Ruby's Point Of View

Watching Brian fight today was a whole new experience for me, I have heard about his skills as a fighter but never I have seen him in action, today I have and to say it was educative is understatement. Now I believe the legends, this guy can take on any number of people, defeat them and still not lose his cool, that is something I have to learn from him. Enough sidetracking back to the issue at hand, Brian just said my real name is Ruby DeVille of the DeVille pack of Washington DC but from what I learnt from Cercie, the DeVille pack was destroyed some ten years ago but no one not even a single soul survived, so how is it possible that I am a DeVille could it be that Cercie lied to me about my origins? Only one way to find out. "Cercie, can you explain to me what Brian was talking about?" ' Alpha, I am sorry for not telling you sooner but I think I am not the best person to explain this situation. Alpha King Brian is the best person to explain things to you' with that she closed the link and ignored all further attempts from me to get her to open up. Well, that is just great now my only option is Brian. I opened a private mind link to Brian " Brian, can you please get back to the history lesson you owe" ' Ruby, like seriously now?' "yes, now, when else do you want me to ask. Now is the best time" ' okay, if you say so. Right then, let me start from the beginning, your dad Alpha Hampton DeVille, the Alpha of the DeVille pack and my mother Luna Alice are siblings, my father happens to be a young Alpha in training under your dad, when he turned eighteen he realized she was his mate and the result of that mating is me. Now back to your side of the story, Alpha Hampton and his Luna (Brianna) had two children, one male and one female. Your elder brother named Barbour was supposed to be Alpha after your dad but he took no chances as he had the both of you trained to be Alphas, you on the other hand were not serious with your training, for security reasons your dad contacted the Shadow Claw assassins pack and had two children a year or two older than you and your brother trained in the ways of the assassin, they trained for years and when they finished their training, they returned back to the pack where they became your best friends that is you and your brother. I was also trained that same way though my training was shorter. On the night of the attack on your pack, your brother and his bodyguard disobeyed orders to get as far away as possible and ended up killed in the battle just like your parents, Cercie on the other hand took you away and has been protecting you till today.' ' if Cercie knew all this, why did she hide it from me?" ' probably to save you the pain. Look the truth is I have no idea. But one thing that struck me as odd was why she did not try to contact my parents, that is something I intend to find out after this war' " what I know is, she said we could not contact anyone for help for fear that who ever wanted me dead might be monitoring,so we could not ask for help from anyone but she never told me I was an Alpha's daughter" I turned to glare at Cercie,who point blankly refused to look in my direction, how convenient. This is just great, now it turns out I am the daughter of one of the most powerful Alphas ever in the history of Washington DC and my first love is my cousin, just great. My wolf was having a laughing fit, I glared at her, all this was because she continuously pushed to be around Brian and get his approval and attention,how was I supposed not to think he probably was my mate. I chuckled and Brian turned to eye me wearily. 'ooh and Ruby the reason, you felt drawn to me is because your wolf recognized me as kin , I would have thought she would tell you so but it seems she did not, which is funny but understandable' " yeah it is easy for you to say Brian, you are not the one who fell hopelessly in love with your cousin for crying out loud. I feel stupid for misreading the pull and foolish for all the hours I spent trying to get you into my bed." ' hey, there is nothing to feel inferior for, it happens. I admit, I kind of had a crush on you and it took me a long time to finally figure out why you smelt so familiar. Don't feel bad besides we have arrived at the Moonlight Pack grounds. " I looked up and realized,we were at the pack grounds and I was so lost to myself, I did not realize it.

Chapter twenty

Lewis's Point Of View

This entire evening, did not go according to plan, it is almost midnight and we just arrived at the Moonlight Pack grounds after an intense unplanned battle, running into Brandon and his ambush was a surprise but luckily we handled it quite well. Now all we have to worry about is the tripod or correctly the trident style of attack, the Red moon Pack would be faced with. I had already mind linked Daemon and Greg, filling them in on the happenings and the reason for our delay to return back, they were mildly pissed they missed the action but happy to know we did not sustain any casualties. I informed them about the enemies battle strategy and asked them to be on the lookout for possible scouts doing reconnaissance and to give the impression that the pack was still not yet ready for the battle. This battle would be won on the theory, 'misinformation'. Michelle had dispatched a group of fifty warriors ahead of the pack as scouts and another fifteen to take care of the bodies of the rogues left behind in that clearing where the battle took place. Alpha Brian is currently having a talk with Luna Slyverken, I waited patiently whiles my mate Michelle was watching me queerly "what is wrong,dear?" I asked through our link ' nothing, I am just worried Luna and Alpha Brian won't come to an understanding as I know she will not agree to be left behind for this war' " are you talking about Luna Slyverken or about yourself, dear do not worry I will be careful and Alpha Brian is more than capable of taking care of himself plus Daemon, Greg, Jerkins and I would be there to prevent anything from happening. Okay?" ' okay, if you say so' I walked towards her and licked her face,she started bouncing happily as she tried to avoid my tongue all the while brimming with laughter. all of a sudden Luna Slyverken nodded to Alpha Brian and Alpha turned towards the southern border,where we entered the pack through. He sent a mind link to me, Alphas Ripley, Ironside, McNally and Denise " boys our work here is done, let us go home" Jerkins joined the link before Alpha disconnected' Alpha, with your permission my job here is done as well, the war has been won and the pack is safe. I request permission to return back to the Red moon Pack grounds where my skills would be more useful in the upcoming battle,we have barely a few hours before the enemies attack' " okay Jerkins permission granted, you can return with us, we leave in five minutes, be done with your goodbyes by then" he disconnected and gave his full attention to Luna Slyverken and young Alpha Ruby who showed up from no where. I turned to my mate, Michelle "well, looks like I have to say goodbye for now but don't worry I'll send you a message as soon as the war is over, in the meantime take care of yourself and the pack and also keep an eye on Luna Slyverken,she dies look happy about not coming along. Okay see you in a couple of hours, I love you" I stopped in my tracks did I just say I love you to Michelle? But on introspection, I realized it was true, I am in love and it took a battle of this nature for me to realize it. Michelle was taken aback by this confession of my emotions and how I really feel about her as she was gaping at me open mouthed, I winked at her, which was awkward in wolf form and trotted away to Alpha, who was standing by himself at the southern border, intently gazing into the night after saying a hasty goodbye to Luna Slyverken, Ruby and Cercie were the first to join us, followed by Alphas Ripley, Ironside, McNally and Denise and finally Jerkins who had a tough time convincing a teary eyed Bernie. Well,all in all everyone is set and ready,Alpha looked at us nodded in approval and sprinted for the Red moon Pack grounds, with the whole Moonlight Pack hailing us. We all followed immediately, in less than ten minutes we arrived at our destination and the pack looked different,in the space of the four hours we left the pack grounds for the moonlight pack, I could not believe daemon and Greg would be able to change the entire outlook of the pack now it looks more like a fortress, the whole place has been fortified from the outside and inside it looks like a ghost town, excellent this is great, the enemy outside would think the place is empty save for a few warriors.
