From The Beginning

FROM THE BEGINNING  Heidi was never one of those girls you’d expect to leave a small town. Blonde hair, with tinges of auburn, that fell half way down her back. A slender figure, of which left slightly imperfect, from several binge sessions on pop tarts growing up. S’mores were always her favourite. Her mother was seldom prone, to forgetting to grab ample supply, at each visit to the grocery store. During high school she’d always seemed to excel. Despite only having a handful of close friends, if you asked anybody who knew her, it’d be unlikely they’d drop inflammatory words from their tongue in reference to her. Even with a body most guys would fantasise about, and an attractive face, it was her shyness that generally kept her away from relationships with the opposite s*x until after graduation.  She always had an affinity with animals. Living on a small farm growing up, there was always a dog in need of friendly petting, or a chicken with eggs for a non too distant breakfast. The slight isolation from city life, left her ill prepared, for when she hit California for college. She’d intended to study medicine, but other opportunities seemed more rewarding, so Heidi chose to study law. She’d always wanted to study criminal law, as watching television growing up, she always felt an affinity with those on the wrong side of the tracks. Travelling out there, with her two friends Stacey and Jackie, they all found a shared loft near to campus. Taking up a figure around the study job at a cafe, that was where she met Brad. He was a California native, who grew up skateboarding and surfing, and his torso rippled from countless hours of activity under the Pacific Coast sun.  Life at Brads house growing up was always a hive of activity. Only a few years after he was born, his alcoholic father had given up the fight of fatherhood, abandoning him and his mother and fleeing to a location still unknown to this day. Despite being not an overly troubled child growing up, once Brad made it to junior high, he grew spritely to near six foot much to the behest of the more popular boys. With newfound physical ability and confidence, he began to dive into sports, and the beach became a keen friend to him. His mother ran through a series of dead beat spouses, before perhaps picking the most lowly of them all, settling on a drug dealer named John. John was mostly small time. Bit of weed here, gram of speed to his football buddies there, and like Brads father he to was prone to the bottle. Even so, Brad saw him as a figure of authority, and despite Johns lifestyle offered him the respect he figured he deserved.  Brad was instantly drawn to Heidi. Not just because of her small town girl looks, but because of her confidence, and they shared a kinship instantly connecting over the underground pop punk band Loose Change. Loose Change were a West Coast four-piece band, who generally sang of depression and abandonment, with references to self harm along with longing. Few people outside those who frequented underground scene blogs knew of Loose Change, so Brad was startled, when Heidi called him out on his band shirt as he brought a latte from her one morning.
