Tristan's POV:
"This is a lot," the pack doctor said, shaking her head sadly. She covered the girl's body with a cloth and turned to Cody and I. "It's going to take a while to heal her, and I doubt she might even survive it."
Dane howled inside of me. Hearing that his mate won't survive hurt him. I felt the pangs of pain too, but I stilled myself and hid my expression.
"Where is Victoria?" I asked, looking around.
He shook my head. "I think she left."
"She may be able to do something." He said with a sigh. I mind linked Victoria. "Let's wait outside for her." I said to Cody.
"Please hurry," The pack doctor said, urgency in her tone. "She doesn't have much longer."
"We'll save her. Don't worry." I replied.
We walked outside the pack house. Dane had gone quite inside me, silently fuming about the injuries all over the girl's body, and at the same time sad that she was in such a state.
My head was confused. That girl lying there, is my mate. Dane confirmed that she was. But that can't be so. Not at all.
I heard hurried footsteps and looked up. Victoria was approaching, a bundle of clothes in her hands.
"I thought she might need some clean clothes." She said, pausing to catch her breath. Her eyes travelled between I and Cody. "What's the update now?" Victoria rushed up to us.
"The doctor says we're going to lose her." I confirmed.
"Oh no," Victoria gasped. She turned to me.
Staring at her made me feel even more confused. Victoria was....everything I wanted. The woman I'm madly in love with. The woman I've been hoping and praying will be my fated mate. That girl inside was a rogue, I didn't know her. She didn't know me. How could we be mated?!
Her eyes were worried, searching my face.
“Tristan, what's the matter? you look really pale." She asked, raising a hand to my cheek. I grabbed her hand halfway and pulled her down.
"I'm fine." I replied tightly.
"It's the girl inside." I uttered, worry on my face. "She's in a really bad shape. I feel responsible for her at this moment."
Victoria turned to me. "How bad?"
"I think you should go inside and see for yourself."
"Yes, alpha." Victoria said with a bow, her eyes flitting over to me briefly.
“Cody, are you coming with us?"
"No, I'll be out here a while." Cody replied,
We went inside.
"Where did you find her?" Victoria turned to me and asked.
"She must have ran into the borders." I replied. "She passed out while the scouts were trying to interrogate her. I found her lying unconscious beside the oak tree."
"Thank the moon you were there at the right time. She's really in a bad state."
"Yeah, I sent Cody to the border and in an attempt to make sure things were going well I decided to go check up on him and I found the scene before me. Who knows what would have happened if we weren't there at the time we did.”
"Do you think you can heal her?" I asked, directing the question at Victoria.
"I can try," Victoria said with a soft sigh. She looked to me, her eyes burdened with unasked questions. She probably wondered why I was so interested in the strange girl.
I couldn't possibly tell Victoria that this girl was my mate.
Victoria went down on her knees at the bedside. She took a hold of the girl's hand, her eyes drifting shut.
Watching her work was a beautiful thing. She had magical powers and could heal people. A soft blue light started to emit from where she was holding the girl.
Before my eyes, the small cut and injuries on the girl's body started to heal and disappear. Victoria opened her eyes, and for a moment I saw shock flash through her features. She stared at the girl, her brows furrowing tightly.
"Is anything the problem?" I asked, noticing the sudden change in her expression.
She didn't say a word, she got to her feet and walked up to me.
"I think something is wrong with this girl" she said softly.
"What is it?" I asked.
The girl stirred, a whimper coming from her. We all turned to her. It looked like she was going to wake up, but her features relaxed. She turned over, curling up into a ball.
"I can't see anything." Victoria announced, her voice a fierce whisper. "No past, no present, no future."
"What do you mean?"
"I can usually see into someone I heal." Victoria started. "I can see if they'll be a threat, or not. But with this girl---" she pointed to the sleeping girl "-- I see nothing. It's all just blank."
The pack doctor emerged from another room. she went over to the girl and checked her body. I saw her shoulders relax.
"She's stable now. She should be able to wake up in the coming days."
“I don't think we should let her stay." Victoria said worriedly.
"We don't know if she's a threat or not. Let's just wait for her to wake up."
"And if she turns out to be a spy or someone else?"
"I know your powers never lie, my instincts tells me that this girl is innocent."
"But alpha Tristan..."
"She's a good person. I can feel it. And we will not harm her."
A noise coming from the girl made us all pause and turn to her. She stirred, rubbing her eyes and slowly sitting up in bed. Those eyes opened, staring right at me.
"Crystal?" She whispered. "You're okay ....."
I'm very sure my name is not Crystal.
"Can you…" I started to say. But my words died in my throat.
The doctor tore off the rags on the girls body. I felt blood drain from my face as I saw her body. Pale, bony, her ribs were showing through her skin.
What terrified me the most, was the scars. Every inch of her skin was covered in scars.
"Shit." I heard Victoria mutter behind me.
