Athena's POV:
I became aware of voices arguing. And the soft feeling of a bed under my tired body. I felt I must still be dreaming, because the last thing I remembered was fainting at gun point.
The arguing voices got louder, something about a spy and a traitor and an innocent person. I stirred awake. The pain in my body, I noticed, was gone. I felt light as a feather.
I opened my eyes, my gaze zeroing in on a man. His picture was hazy, but he seemed familiar to me.
"Crystal...." I called out, my voice low. "You're okay...."
"Who is Crystal?" I heard one of the people ask.
"I have no idea...it's not me...."
Wait, something is wrong. I'm not in the cell anymore. And Crystal....I'm sure I saw Crystal killed in front of me.
The realization shattered the last fog in my head. I felt my eyes clear up, my vision becoming clearer. I looked around my surroundings, there were three people standing by the door. Two men and a woman. I didn't recognize any of them. I looked at the room I was inside, I was on a bed, in clothes that weren't battered and blood stained. It looked like a hospital room.
"How do you feel?" I heard one of the men ask.
I turned to him sharply. He had a smile on his face, his eyes were kind and a warm brown. I scanned him, noting how relaxed his posture was. The aura I felt from this man was strong.
"Alpha..." I whispered.
"That's me. I'm Alpha Tristan. What is your name?" He asked, his smile widening.
Oh no. I'm a rogue in his pack....he's going to kill me!
"I'm sorry! Please ...I'll leave...." I bowed my head as I was taught. "Please..."
"Woah, kid! Calm down!"
"I'll just go, I won't be any trouble!"
"I said calm down!" I heard him sigh, the other people mumbling about something. "Raise your head and look at me."
I obeyed, my body trembling out of fear.
"What is your name?"
“A-Athena, Sir."
“Athena. I'm not going to kill you, or harm you. I want to know how you're feeling."
"I'm....fine." I felt fine, my body didn't ache. But my stomach grumbled slowly.
"Which pack are you from?"
My pack? I took a moment to think about it. My real pack, its name has almost faded from my memory. I had to think hard to remember it.
"Darkwood pack." I responded.
"Are you on the run from your pack?" Alpha Tristan asked.
I shook my head. "No. They all got–" The memories filled my mind, hot and painful. The screams, the fire, the panic as everyone tried to run to safety. My parents and friends being killed right in front of me. "—they are all dead."
Alpha Tristan was silent for a moment. "I'm sorry about that, Athena."
"It's fine."
My stomach growls, cutting through the air. I hid my face, my cheeks burning up. Of all the times to embarrass me.
"I'll get her something to eat." The woman said. By the time I raised my eyes she had left, leaving just the two men.
"I'm sorry," I apologized.
"You don't have to apologize for being hungry." Alpha Tristan said.
I noticed the other man hadn't spoken. He was just staring at me. It didn't bother me, but I wished he wouldn't. It was making me paranoid. Like the way I felt when I was taken from the cell into a golden cage for display during full moon. Constantly being watched. All the time.
"I think I'll leave you two alone." He bowed slightly
"That's okay." Alpha Tristan replied, dismissing him with a wave of hand.
Alpha Tristan looked at me. He smiled, his eyes lighting up as he did. I felt like a ray of sunshine had shone all over me. “You would eat soon okay?"
I nodded and I tried to smile back at him, but my face muscles wouldn't listen to my brain. "Okay..."
The other man left. And now, I'm all alone with Alpha Tristan. He moved to the wall, leaning on it and crossing his arms across his chest.
"Your name is Athena, right?" He asked.
His voice felt good to my ears, soothing and calm. His eyes were focused on me, a beautiful shade of green. He had a handsome face, but he wasn't smiling.
I nodded. "I'm Athena."
“You know my name now. It's not Crystal."
Oh. I flushed bright pink. "I'm sorry about that”.
“It's was nothing."
A knock sounded on the door. The lady from before came in carrying a tray with her. The aroma of food wafted through the air, making my stomach growl even louder. She handed the tray over to me. She was smiling, but it wasn't as warm as Alpha Tristan's.
Inside the tray was a simple dish of rice, meat and vegetables. And a glass of water. I was so starved I wolfed down the food. I can't remember the last time I had food or water.
I felt embarrassed, knowing that they were watching me. I slowed down, wishing they'd stop staring at me.
"Do you need more?" The lady asked.
I shook my head. I was starving. "No thank you, I'm fine."
She waited till I was done and took the tray from me.
"I have a question for you." Tristan said the moment she left.
I met his eyes. "Okay."
"Do you feel the mate bond towards me?"
I stared at him, confusion all over my face. "Mate bond?" I asked. What was that? And what was he trying to say?
His eyes widened. "You don't know what the mate bond is?" He questioned, his tone a bit harsh.
