My body is entirely frozen, my mind racing to keep up with what just happened. Did the merman just offer to help me find Xander? And what did he mean by a surprise? My heart is pounding in my chest as I turn to Everett, who is staring at me wide-eyed.
“What just happened?” he asks, still coughing up water from the merman’s earlier prank.
“I don’t know,” I say, shaking my head in disbelief. “But I think we might be closer to finding Xander than we thought.”
Everett looks skeptical but nods. “Okay, so what now?”
“We wait for the full moon.”
Everett sighs. “Alright, but I’m getting us a luxurious suit on land this time. I’m not getting on another boat.”
I chuckle. “Deal.”
