The Truth

Landing on a private airstrip, Jake and Caleb, along with their friends loaded into the waiting limo. There was a grim silence throughout the drive.  "Do they have any updates on her?" Andrea asked. Caleb shook his head.  "Its aggressive and they don't expect much, so mother called us in for her final…." Jake broke off not wanting to say it. The limo fell silent once more.  "I'm not sure what to expect or say." Caleb sighs. "Well whatever it is. No sad faces. You heard what mother said." Jakes responds. Arriving at the hospital, the group of friends slide on their hats and sunglasses. They entered making sure not to be discovered. Stopping in front of her door Caleb stalled not wanting to go in and face this ugly truth. Jake patted his shoulder and knocked softly.  "Come in." Opening the door the group filed in slowly.  "Hey there. My favorite boys and girl." June Heartwell, only 48 years of age and still looks like shes only in her 30s. She smiled knowingly at the group of young adults.  "Now, now fellas. No need to be so down." June smiled through a few years.  "To be honest this is karma." She smiled bitterly.  "Ma! No you are the kindest person there is. How can this be karma?" Caleb protested. June wiped her eyes quickly and looked over to her boys.  "Im sorry Caleb, Jake so sorry. I tried many times. I was so scared." "Mom what are you talking about?" Jake asked. June shakily pointed to her drawer. And silently sobbed as jake opened the top, taking out an old photograph. "When did you do this shoot with a baby girl I don't remember this one?" June shook her head. "That was taken after I got out of the hospital almost 17 years ago."  Caleb and jake looked at each other confused. Staring at the picture more closely, they noticed the similarities. The hair, the blue grey eyes.  "Is this…." June nodded sadly. "Thats your sister boys. That's our Star."  Jake and Caleb stood stunned. They had a sister! How could they not remember that fact. "How can you not tell us? Where is she? How come she isn't here with us?" They demanded. June shook and cried harder. "I tried to take her with us boys i tried my best. But her father wasn't the nicest man babies. I promised to go back for her. To get stronger and go back for my little star."  Jake shook his head "but mom it's been almost 18 years what the hell." He nearly shouted. June tried to compose herself. "I promised once you guys graduated we would go back… but then you boys had your own career going and I didnt want to ruin anything." She tried to reason.  "That's no excuse mom. Jesus from what you tell me you left her with a damn monster for 17 years. How do you think she is dealing with that." Caleb snapped.  June closed her eyes. "He wouldn't hurt her. He wanted her."  Jake and Caleb stared at their mother with shock. "You can't be seriously naive mother." Jake muttered. He turned and looked to his friends who were equally shocked.  "Why are you telling us now mother." Jake asked.  June squared her shoulders. "I know I'm not going to be here for much longer boys…. I need you to promise me that you find our Star. And bring her home, and take care of her like i failed to please." She said softly.  Jake and Caleb looked to one another and nodded. "Vincent please get a PI and look into this privately please." Vincent nodded and walked out already dialing a number.  "I failed too much with my babies and im so sorry boys. Please promise you'll bring her home." June pleaded. Caleb and Jake nodded. "No matter what momma we will get her back."  June nodded and closed her eyes and fell into an exhausted sleep. A week passed and June slowly got worse. One day Vincent received a phone call. "We found her. Its bad if you are going to do something do something quick." He said grimly. Jake and caleb looked to their mother. "Go boys im not going anywhere yet." She said with a small smile. Jake and Caleb kissed her on each cheek and rushed out of the room. Vincent was on the phone ordering their plane to be ready for departure ASAP.  Getting into the car the twins were surprised to see the entire group follow close by. "What? You think you going without backup? No sir." Austen said with a smirk. "Plus you four giants will probably scare the girl to death." Andrea retorted smiling. "Guys not to ruin this but she's in ICU in a small town in Maine." Vincent butted in. Jake floored the car and sped to the airport.  "Do we have any information on her father?" Caleb asked buckling into his seat on the plane. Vincent slide the twins his phone without a word. "County sheriff, multiple complaints but nothing ever sticks, sound fishy to me. What about our sisters file?" Vincent's eyes flash and swipe to the next page. Jake and Caleb's eyes go wide. "Multiple trips to E.R fractures, cuts. And recently an apparent break in that left her with glass pierced into her lower back. All accidents but if you ask me ..." Vincent drifts off. "This plane needs to hurry the hell up." Caleb muttered.  The entire trip was silent after reading the files. The boys were terrified of what they might find. "Jake, We don't know her. But with mom….. I… we just can't lose her too." Caleb whispered. "We won't Caleb i swear it we will bring out sister home and she will be safe. I promise." Jake responded. "Us too." The other member chimed in. The plane was silent for the rest of the journey. The pilot soon came on the intercom "Ok guys we're about to land. Make sure to cover up. It's cold and we got a car waiting for wherever you need to go."   Once landed the group shot out the plane and rushed to the car.  "Vincent drive you have the address. And buddy. Drive fast." Jake said. Vincent nodded and whipped the car into the road.  The only thing on the mind was to get to Star  "Sorry we're late baby sis but hold on. We are coming." The twins thought.
