What was she talking about? I waited wanting to figure out what she would say next.
“ All I'll say is I've known you for 5 years. That was before you left 2 years ago.” she said as she finished.
“ There you go! I'll bandage you after you've had your bath.” she said then stood up. I could tell that she wasn't kidding though I don't know why I could.
“ How come I don't remember you?” I asked slowly while trying to remember.... Anything at all that might connect me with her.
“ Well, you'll understand in due time.” she said in a playful tone then hit me playfully on my stomach.
“ Com'mon scurry on now.” she said softly to me and made to leave.
“ The past that I can't even remember won't stop me from breaking a couple of your fingers the next time you try that.” I said casually.
Her movements faltered slightly but then she chuckled and walked out.
................
Her hands moved quickly with precision and expertise. One might think she was born into the medical field.
“ There you go.” she said and let out a sigh. “ I'll let myself out now.” she added and began to pack.
I watched her in silence, I didn't quite know what to say or if I should say something so I just kept quiet and watched.
Her phone rang, it was annoyingly loud. She stared at the caller ID for I think 30 seconds before she accepted the call.
“ I'm on my way.” she said in a low voice, the look on her face and the way she acted told me something was wrong.
I didn't feel the need to ask and I regretted it the next day.
Her eyes met mine then she sent a tight lipped smile my way. “Bye” she said and left, my eyes watched her back until she left.
I woke up the next day with a strange feeling clouding my thoughts. I pushed it away and prepared before leaving for school.
I sat in the class, I expected her to walk in anytime now but she never did.
An hour.......2 hours......then 3 passed, Her sit still empty and awfully dull. At that moment, I realized she wasn't gonna come today.
The bell finally rang, only one thought on my mind. “ I need to find her” I was scared though, I didn't want her close but deep inside, I knew I needed to find her.
I had no idea where she lives or her number so I was in a tight situation.
...............
Somehow, I found myself home, pacing the room. I had no idea how to reach out to her even after staying up all night.
‘ Why am I so worried? I'll probably see her tomorrow.’ I thought, trying hard to go to sleep.
The next day went by slowly with no sight of Bella. I knew I was starting to get paranoid without those green eyes locked in mine.
I took in a deep breath and walked over to one of the girls who flocked around her. She was alone fortunately for me, her attention fixated on her phone screen.
“ Hey” I said in a low voice. She stayed glued on her phone for a while before her gaze landed on me.
“ What?” she asked rudely as if I was a fly buzzing on her face. I inwardly reminded myself of the reason I walked up to her in the first place.
“ Do you know why Bella's absent from school?” I asked carefully, trying not to let my emotions show.
She smirked, her face almost revealing something dark. Something... “ Dunno, family stuff. She does this tons of time, she'll be back after a while.” she replied then continued with her phone.
“Oh uhmm, do you perhaps happen to have her number?” I asked, a look of surprise crossing her face as she really looked at me.
“ Okay,I'll give you.” she said much to my surprise, excitement bubbling inside of me just thinking I'll get to talk to her but of course, she had to burst it.
“ On one condition though.” she stepped forward, then whispered “ You tell me what's going on between you two.” she said then took a step back.
“ When you're ready, you know where to find me.” she said then walked away her eyes still glued on her phone.
I gritted my teeth. “ Nothing's going on.” I muttered to myself already giving up on talking to her.
I ran a hand through my hair, I was starting to get frustrated already. I let out a sigh “ She does this all the time, she'll be back soon.” I said to myself knowing pretty well I didn't believe that.
........
It was the start of a new week. I haven't been acting up for a while and still no sight of her. I groaned as the homeroom teacher walked in.
She does this every freaking day! Might as well piss her off today. As she was about to start her boring speech, the door opened.
Everyone turned to see who came in, my heart missed a beat seeing Bella standing there. She rose her head slowly her eyes as scanned the class and paused when it landed at me.
Our eyes met, emotions flickered through her eyes, ones I couldn't explain. I wanted to reach out, wanted to make her explain but that devil of a lady always had to cut in.
“ Ms. Marshal, are you planning on standing there all day?” she said a frown noticeable on her expression.
“ See me after class also.” she said and faced us again to address us. “ As we all know, this is a new week and ....” I wasn't sure I registered a word that left her lips.
All I could think of was the lady not too far away from me. She looked a little pale, her eyes dull as if she hadn't slept for days.
I was brought back to reality when I heard the bell. My bag was already slung on my shoulder as I waited for her to leave first.
I decided to wait outside the staffs room since that devil asked her to see her. I rested on the wall, my headphones round my neck.
My phone chimed, a message dropped. Since I was already holding my phone, I decided to check it out.
It was a single line from the same unknown number.
“ Wanna know what she's been up to?”
My eyes darkened immediately, the door swinging open immediately after. I shoved my phone into my pocket, my eyes already finding that of the person that just walked out.
“ Promise ” she whispered softly, something stirring in me just hearing her call my name.
“ What are you doing here?” she asked after finally snapping out of her daze.
“ We need to talk.” I said my hand already grabbed hers and pulled as I led her away.
“ I have a class right now...”
“ Skip it!” I cut in my voice left no room for her to say otherwise.
“ Where are you taking me to?” she asked some seconds later.
I stopped walking, my hand left her's quickly as if she burnt me. I let out a shaky breath, my hand running through my hair.
We were on the roof, I just wanted to be alone with her but now that we were I felt strange.
“ I'm sorry. I just wanted to know why you skipped school for a while now.” I said, my eyes looking at everything but her.
“ I was busy with something.” she whispered, her hands clenched at her sides.
“What...” I didn't get to complete my sentence when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I brought it out, my eyes grew darker as I read.
“ Get down now!” I said a second too late as someone grabbed her. My heart constricted as he pressed the knife to her neck.
“ What do you want?” I asked calmly a surprise to myself. My eyes were focused on hers, the way she shook and tears filled her eyes.
“ It would be okay, trust me.” I whispered to her, my eyes turned rock cold as it met with the man's. His grip on the knife was fairly loose but I wasn't going to gamble on her life.
“ S..step back.” he ordered, his hand shaking. My face was emotionless. How come no one knew this bastard was here anyways?
I made no attempt to move back, I simply stood watching her whimper as he pressed the knife closer, a line of blood was drawn.
I saw red instantly, my eyes turned grey faster than I've ever done before. My legs pushed forward, launching to him like a lunatic.
He froze for a second then wanted to hurt her but a second was enough for me. I twisted his hand, that filthy hand that dared to touch what was mine.
He let out a scream then fell on his knees. My knee connected to his head, I stomped on it till he stopped breathing, blood spluttered everywhere and my anger still boiling.
My eyes met with Bella's. I took a step forward but she moved back, she was afraid of me? I tried to smile, to hold her but next thing I know, she's falling off the roof......
