CHAPTER 1
Tristan walked into the office and everywhere was unusually quiet.
"Max why's everywhere so quiet? Did the boss lash out on anyone this morning?" Tristan asked curiously as he placed his laptop bag on his desk.
"I have no idea what's going on either, but I think this got something to do with the trending rumor about Deena Gu" Max whispered, and Tristan furrowed his eyebrows in curiosity.
"What rumors? Is there any rumor I don't know about Deena?" Tristan asked curiously and just then his boss stood behind him.
"Of course, there's a rumor you don't know if, and I'm quite disappointed with you. Tristan why do you always love avoiding news that involves Deena?" The chief asked seriously, and Tristan sat down.
"I don't need to because I know everything about her, I just don't want to get involved. If you're all quiet just because of the rumors you heard about Deena being a slave in her mansion, then you're all wrong. It's not true, those rumors are false" Tristan said calmly as he brought our his laptop and turned it on.
"They always say, there's no smoke without fire. Other reporters uploaded this on their exclusives and we're the only ones left, this topic will bring quite some money into our account. Max write an exclusive on that as well" The chief instructed and Tristan showed him his laptop.
"Is this proof enough for you to believe me. I've got inner source of getting information, so please stop doubting me, I will get back to work now" Tristan said and turned on his computer.
"This is why I love Tristan so much. He's a professional at what he does and we should all learn from him. He's a good example to his fellow colleagues" The chief complimented him and everyone smiled except for Tristan whose concentration was on his laptop.
You guys just watch and see how I crush your publicity. How dare you say s**t about my Deena? Tristan uttered in his head seriously as he typed hard on his keyboard.
Here I am again, working my butt off because of some clueless reporters. I'm Tristan Cho in my middle twenties, trying so hard to block off every false rumor about my first love, Deena. Deena's my celebrity crush and she's the reason why I come to work diligently, because I get to see her updates daily at the office.
"Tristan regardless of the clues you got, I think you've got to see this. Someone was pulling Deena's hair right there on her window last night and I think she was being bullied", Max whispered, showing Tristan his phone.
Max is Tristan best buddy at home and at the office, they're the two most intelligent reporters in their office.
"I got something as well, I think something isn't right with Deena's decision to race for the internationals next month."
DEENA'S POV
I'm Deena a racer and probably the eye candy in my crew and the only child of my parents. My family owns a racing car company.
I'm probably trending on the internet right now because of what happened last night.
"Deena!" Dad called out harshly as he barged into my room.
I turned to the other side of the bed, ignoring him.
"I know very well that you're not sleeping, so go fix yourself and get downstairs, some reporters will be arriving here soon" He instructed coldly then walked out of my room and I sat up glaring at my door.
FLASHBACK*** On last night after we came back from the party the company threw for me because of the award I won yesterday.
"I'm so proud of you dear"Mum said with a wide smile and Dad brushed my shoulders as he walked away.
"Darling, what's that for? Why are you so upset? I thought you wanted Deena to get the award and now you're behaving like this?" Mum asked, and Dad turned around.
"Why are you making it sound like it's a big deal? She only won the nationals award not international. Deena you're no longer allowed to attend such silly parties until you win an award for the internationals. My goal for you isn't just in China but foreign countries as well. You weren't selected for the internationals because you lack confidence, for how long do I have to train you to be just like me. I've been training you to be the best among best ever since you were little but you keep disgracing me and the name of our family. Take a look at your cousin Layla, she has won so many awards for China when are you going to be like her? The only thing you're good at is attending parties after winning little glory" Dad said scolded and I frowned.
"You keep comparing me to Layla, do you think this is the way she's treated at home and she got this far in her career" I fired and Dad bounced on me as he grabbed my hair and mum tried so hard to stop him.
"Darling let go, you're hurting her"Mum said trying to separate us.
"Deena how dare you talk back at me? You should never compare me to my brother ever again in your life. And about that international racing you're definitely participating, so better get yourself ready", he said seriously and walked away.
***FLASHBACK ENDS.
You keep competing with your brother and how's that my fault? I muttered in my head with a frown.
An hour later I was done freshening up headed downstairs for the interview with the reporters.
I walked down the stairs and found Finley standing at the last stair.
What's he doing here? I thought I was to meet with the reporters? I question in my head.
Finley the only son of the Director of the Shanghai racing championship company.
"Hello Deena" Finley greeted politely as I walked to him and he peeked the back of my palm.
"What are you doing here Finley?" I asked with as I slipped my hand away from his swiftly and Dad walked to us.
"Deena you better cooperate and don't embarrass me in front of the reporters" Dad whispered in my ears and I rolled my eyes then walked to the sitting room where the reporters are.
"Good evening everyone" I greeted with a wide smile as I took my seat.
"Good evening Deena. It's so good to see you and congratulations to you on the national awards" One of the reporters said professionally, and I noticed another reporter was about to come in but he was on the phone.
His face looks very familiar. Have I seen him somewhere before? I asked lap and Finley placed his hands on my laps.
"What are you doing?" I asked, looking at him and he smiled, but I shoved his hands off swiftly.
My eyes went back to the reporter at the door but he turned around and left without coming in.
Where's he going? I asked in my head as I felt like running to him to have a proper look at him.
"Deena, how do you feel about being newly engaged?" One of the reporters asked with a smile and I giggled.
"Excuse me, what did you just say?" I asked with a little frown.
"We found out from your managers that you and Finley Zhang is engaged" She repeated and I looked at Finley who was grinning from ear to ear.
"Finley what's going on here?" I asked in a whisper and he leaned forward.
"Your dad accepted the proposal so why are you acting like you know nothing. We're engaged Deena" He said and the word echoed in my ears multiple times and I stood up from my couch then walked out on the reporters.
"Deena we're just getting started with the interview", One of them announced, but I ignored all of them and head to dad's study room.
"Dad what's the meaning of this?" I yelled and he glared at me.
"I remember telling you clearly to cooperate and not embarrass me. How dare you walk out on Finley like that? Do you have any how many international racing awards he has won"
"I don't care, what does this got to do with the fact that the media knows I'm engaged while I'm completely on the dark. Dad of all people you had to engage me with, you chose that pervert and proud peacock of a guy. Participating in the internationals isn't enough for you and now this?" I asked, holding back my tears.
"Deena you don't have any choice here. The Gu's family fame mustn't go down with your bad record. The only thing you could offer to this family after all the training you've been given is the national award. You don't have a say Deena" Dad said coldly.
"Why are you pushing me so hard when I'm your only daughter? I don't deserve any of this" I said and ran out of the study.
TRISTAN'S POV
I rushed back to the office after my call with the chief.
It was so close, I would have seen Deena in person.
"Chief what's the emergency?" I asked curiously.
"Deena and Finley got engaged" He announced and I laughed over it.
"Where did you get such a ridiculous news?" I asked sarcastically.
"You didn't get any call from Max?" He asked and I looked at my phone. So many missed calls from reporters.
"When was that news announced?" I asked curiously, going through my phone.
"Max just uploaded his exclusive, I think the interview with Deena is over" He said and I went through Max's exclusive immediately.
"It seems she's against the engagement", the Chief laughed and I frowned and walked out of the office.
Thank you Deena for not accepting an asshole like Finley. I muttered in my mind as I exhaled with a smile after reading the article.
"Tristan, do you think it's an arranged engagement? She didn't look happy on the photos being uploaded" He said he and I looked away.
"Why would he do that to Deena?" I uttered out angrily then walked to my desk, picked up my stuff and left the office.
Deena, are you okay? I'm hoping you will be okay. I uttered in my head while driving back home and it suddenly started raining.
"The forecast for today clearly said there won't be any rain" I said, looking out at the window.
I got to the traffic light, then stopped because there was a red light, but suddenly, someone appeared in front of my car with blood dripping down her face.
"Ahhhhhh!" I screamed and the person fell down.
"It's not a ghost, right" I uttered slowly as I removed my seatbelt and quietly got down from my car to where the person fell.
"Are you okay?" I asked slowly as I carefully turned her around and to my greatest shock it's Deena.
