Chapter 19Once they locked up the now one-piece Vessel in the study room and all but ran from the museum, Alex took Xander home for dinner. They figured that Dr. White would be the best person other than Homer to absorb the whole story without undue skepticism or panic. The Brownes were still not fully up to speed on this aspect of the curators’ little adventure, and they both felt they needed a parent on their side. Hamilton already knew more than Xander’s family, so he was going to be their confidante.
As they made their way down Fifth Avenue, looking up at the looming façade of 998 as they passed, Alex could feel the thrum of Xander’s excitement, mixed with an edge of fear. “You’re pretty jacked up,” he commented, bumping shoulders with his boyfriend.
Xander gave him a wry little smil
