Chapter 9Alex and Xander spent the rest of the day in a cloud, dizzy from what they’d learned and not sure what to do next. They left a bemused Homer Bencliffe with a promise to visit him again. He in turn assured them that he would dig through every drawer, cupboard, and closet in his apartment to see if anything else of interest might come to light. There was nothing left but to go to work, each of them pushing forward on projects they already had on their desks. Assistant curators were never without a backlog of collection-related paperwork, research, or digging in files.
Before heading to their separate offices, they also decided that this would be a good evening for Alex to finally have dinner with the Brownes in Harlem. After Xander called his mother at the hospital to see if he cou
