The next morning, when I got up, I went to the bathroom and went through my morning routine. After using the bathroom, I washed my hands, then brushed my teeth and hair before pulling my hair up. When I was done in there, I went out to the bedroom and put my prosthetics on and pulled my pants up.
Once I had my legs on, I went back to the bathroom to fold my shower chair up and put it in its bag. I didn't want Mom to come in here and see it. Then I set it in the bedroom out of the way. I also gathered up all of my shower stuff and put it back in the bag it goes in, so that it could go to the car. I was trying to make sure that everything was ready so that after breakfast, Dad could take me over to the house to get all of my stuff settled inside.
I also laid out an outfit of clothes to change into and put my dirty ones in a bag, and put them in my suitcase. Once I made sure that I had everything packed up, I headed out of my room and downstairs.
When I got downstairs, Mom was already up and was fixing breakfast. Daddy was sitting in the living room with the grandparents, watching the news and drinking coffee. When Daddy heard me coming down the stairs, he got up and came over to hug me and help me down them.
"Good morning, Pebbles. How did you sleep last night?" he asked me.
"Better than I have in a long time. I was actually able to get a good night of sleep," I told him.
"That's good. Your mom's getting breakfast fixed. After we eat, I'll take you over to the house so that you can get settled in. I'll help you get everything carried in and upstairs. I think that Stone is going to meet us over there. Atticus and Willow made us a list of some of the stuff that they need right now. So we'll get it while we're there. While you're here, we'll work on going through their stuff and getting their things moved. And we'll be doing the same thing to my parents' place. Once both places are cleared out, then they will belong to you and your brother. He gets my parents' place, and you get your mom's parents' house. You always loved the big farmhouse and all of the property that it sits on," Daddy told me.
"I went over yesterday and cleaned the place up with the help of Piper. We aired it out and got the master bedroom that's upstairs all cleaned up for you and ready for you to use. Dad told me to clean up his old office for you as well so that you'll have somewhere to work. It's been pretty much empty for years now. I've done all of the paperwork and stuff for the farm in my office here. So the office is ready for you to use. We also stocked the fridge, freezer, and pantry, all full of food and your favorite drinks. If there is anything else that you need, just let me know, and I'll get it for the house. I also stocked your favorite snacks and drinks here as well. If there is something new that you like and I dont have, just let me know," Mom told me.
"I will, Mom, thank you. Do you need any help with breakfast?" I asked her.
"I also have it all done, but you can set the table for me," she told me. So I fixed myself a cup of coffee and then set the table for Mom.
After a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, and biscuits, I went upstairs to get dressed. It didn't take me long to put on a new pair of shorts, a pair of leggings, and a clean shirt. Once I was dressed, I packed my dirty clothes and then made sure that I had everything ready to go to the car.
When I was ready, Daddy came up and grabbed my stuff to carry down to the car. I grabbed my phone charger and my purse and followed him downstairs. After saying goodbye to everyone, we headed over to the house.
I was excited that this was the place that I was getting. When I was little, my grandparents' farm was always my favorite place to be. I loved to ride horses and go for long rides. I dont even know if I could ride anymore. But I'd love to be able to.
"We still have the horses. Your brothers take turns coming over here and feeding and watering them. That big assed pig is still on the property as well. And we still have a herd of cattle. It's still just a working farm like it always was. Still grow food and s**t also. Most of the workers are now guys from the club. They usually put the newest prospects out here to work, or anyone who pisses them off. None of them will bother you, though. They know not to get close to the main house. You'll be safe out here alone, and if you dont think that you will, one of your brothers will come stay with you," Daddy told me.
"Daddy, I live in New York, alone. I'll be fine out here in the country by myself. And if someone shows up and tries something, I have pepper spray and a taser. And I'm not afraid to use either of them. Also, there is a gym back home that teaches disabled people how to protect themselves from an attack. I can fight someone with my legs and without them. I'll be good, I promise. And I love that this place is still a working farm. I miss riding horses and just feeling free. I'd love to go for a ride, but I dont know if I'd even be able to now," I told him.
"If you want to go for a ride, Stone and I can figure out a way so that you can go for one. Hell, we'll even ride on each side of you to make sure you stay on. You'll probably have trouble riding a Harley now, as well, huh?" he asked me.
"Not really. I have a friend who has motorcycles up there, and he's been teaching me to ride one. Not only as a passenger but as a driver as well. It's hard as well. He said that what I need is a specialty-made bike that's built to be used with my legs. I think he told me that the only place he knew of that could make such a bike was a little shop down here called Rex's Rides. I laughed and told him I'd pass on that. I then had to explain why. I didn't need Rex to find out about my legs and be asked to keep it from Shadow. I know that they are together now. Stone makes sure to tell me about how much better off that Shadow is without me now. And that I was a b***h for ever leaving him in the first place. Now that he knows part of why I think that, he feels bad for that," I said.
"I dont blame you for that. That is a conversation that you need to have with Shadow. But when you're ready, I'm sure that Rex would be able to design a special bike just for you. And your brother got his ass kicked nice and good for how he talks to you. I guess Rock heard him on the phone with you one day, and when Stone hung up on you, Rock beat his ass for him. Told him that if he ever heard him talking to his little sister that way, he'd unalive his ass. And he used that word. I think that there were kids around, or close by. Like his words were going to matter after they just watched him beat Stone's ass. But he told Stone that something big obviously had to happen for you to leave that way. And when you were ready for everyone to know, you'd tell them. And that, as your brothers, they should always have your back, no matter what. Just like they always have each other's backs. Rock was pissed as hell at Stone and didn't talk to him for a couple of months. And then it took Aries and me both sitting them down and having a chat with them. Now that Stone knows part of what happened, I'm sure that he'll sit down with you while you're here to have a talk with you. And the fucker better apologize to you. Oh, look, he's already here," Daddy told me.
We were going down the long driveway to the house and were almost at the end when Dad said that. When I looked up, I saw a couple of bikes parked in front of the big house. I missed this place. It was a big two-story farmhouse with wrap-around porches on the first and second floors.
Grandma's rocking chairs were still on the front porch. And I'm sure that if I went around that back, Grandpa's ancient grill was still out there. This place was perfect, and there wasn't much that I would change. I want to add one of those porch beds on one side of the house. And a new grill, pizza oven, and smoker to the back porch. Maybe a fire pit in the yard. Otherwise, I loved it just the way that it was.
I wasn't paying attention to anything except for the house. So after dad stopped my SUV, I didn't notice the guys coming out of the barn until after I got out of the SUV. I heard someone yell, and when I looked over, I saw Stone heading this way, and he wasn't alone.
It was a good thing that Dad was standing beside me because when I saw who was with Stone, my legs almost gave out on me. And with the prosthetics, that would have been bad. Thankfully, Dad was able to catch me, though.
I wanted to string my brother up by his toes. I told him that I wasn't ready to see or speak to Shadow just yet. And what did he do? He brought him straight here.
I had my purse on my arm, and Dad handed me the key for the house. And then he reached into the back seat and grabbed my pillows and blankets and handed them to me.
"Here, this will give you a minute. Take this stuff and go unlock the door. And then we'll get the rest of the stuff inside. You look like you're ready to cry, and he doesn't need to see you that way for the first time in years," Daddy told me.
I just nodded and headed to the house. Since the house now had a ramp on the left side of the steps, I used it to get to the porch. As I was unlocking the door, I heard Stone ask Dad about me, and he said something about me needing the bathroom.
Thankfully, that would buy me a few minutes, and Shadow wouldn't think that I ran because of him, hopefully.
When I got inside, I took my pillows, blankets, and my purse and went up to the room that would be mine. I tossed my stuff on the bed and then went to the bathroom. I actually did need to pee.
When I was done, I grabbed my purse and headed back downstairs. I was much calmer now and ready to get this over with. When I got to the living room, I set my purse on the couch and stepped outside on the porch. Dad was standing at the back of my SUV, talking to Stone and Shadow.
And while Shadow was talking to them both, his eyes were on the front door of the house. I just knew that he was waiting for me to walk back outside. And I have to say that even though he was watching for me, he looked none too happy to see me.
Here we go, let's get this over with.
I stepped outside and stood on the porch. When Dad was done talking to Stone, he opened the back of my car and started to grab my bags and stuff.
I ignored Shadow and went down the ramp and to the car. I opened the back door and started grabbing my pillows and blankets.
I took them into the house and laid them on the couch for now. There was some trash in my car, so I went to the kitchen to grab a garbage bag to clean it out. Then I headed back outside. As I was walking through the living room, Dad was coming up the porch, and Stone and Shadow were behind him.
I could hear Shadow ask Stone, "Why the hell does your sister have a gun case? She shouldn't be carrying a gun. Not one that f*****g big anyway. That's like a riffle case or something."
Before either Dad or Stone could say anything, I said, "It's not a gun, it's needs to know, and you guys dont need to know. Thanks for carrying my stuff in, though. I appreciate the help."
I was trying not to be a b***h about it, but I didn't want Shadow to know what was in that case. Luckily, it has a lock on it so that no one can get into it. The last thing that I wanted was to have that conversation with Shadow today. I wasn't ready for it.
Once they headed upstairs with my bags, I went back out to the car to clean up the trash and get whatever was left out. I started in the passenger seat and cleaned everything out of the doors and the cup holders. Then I went to the driver's side and did the same. When that was done, I got everything out of the back seat and the floorboard.
As I was cleaning, I set my coolers out to take inside and tried to ignore the fact that Shadow was coming down the porch steps.
I hated to admit it, but seeing him for the first time in years, I swear my heart skipped a beat. I have missed him so much. And I wanted nothing more than to run into his arms. But I knew that he probably hated me for leaving.
"You have anything else that needs to go inside?" he asked me.
I shook my head no and said, "No, just my coolers and I can take them in when I'm done here. Thanks for helping."
I was looking over my shoulder at him when I said it, and he just nodded and bent down to grab the coolers anyway. He turned towards the house and then stopped.
He turned back towards me and asked me, "Why the f**k did you leave me? What the hell happened for you to leave the way that you f*****g did? Do you know how much it f*****g hurts to come home and find my old lady gone? And the only thing that was there was a note!"
