Chapter 1: Pre-logue (Flashback)
God has written love in all of our destinies, but He left a task for us — to find that love. In Mumbai, the beating heart of India, lived a girl called Aisha Khan who was madly in love with Will Daniel, an American man struggling to keep his business alive. Will’s mother was badly ill, so he had to travel to the United States in a rush, leaving Aisha behind. What Will did not know was that Aisha was pregnant. Aisha’s heart sank after Will left. She thought that he had abandoned her for another woman. She cried day and night until one day she swore to hate him for eternity. But in reality, Will was nursing his critically ill mother, who needed multiple surgeries and constant care. To make matters worse, Will lost his phone, cutting off every possible connection between them. Days turned into months, and months into a painful year. Aisha eventually met a new man who wanted to marry her, but only after she gave birth because he never wanted to raise another man’s children. After giving birth, Aisha left her beautiful twin girls at her parents’ bedroom door with a heartbreaking letter that stated: Dear Mother and Father, I am very sorry that I couldn't live up to your expectations. Every time I look at these twins, they remind me of the dreadful past that I am trying so hard to forget. I met a man who actually loves me, but he does not want to raise children that are not his, and I cannot plead with him because these children will always remind me of Will. I hope one day you are going to forgive me for this. I love you a lot. Your only daughter, Aisha Khan. Rumisha’s POV I stood at my bedroom door, transfixed, staring at the letter and the babies with tears in my eyes. The soft cries of the twins echoed painfully in my heart. One of them stretched her tiny fingers toward me while the other slept peacefully beside her sister. Words could not describe how disheartened I felt at that moment. “Why, Aisha…?” I whispered brokenly as tears rolled down my cheeks. “How could you do this?” I slowly picked up one of the babies, cradling her carefully in my arms. She looked up at me with innocent eyes that knew nothing about pain or abandonment. “I can’t express how disappointed I am in you, Aisha,” I said through trembling lips. “I understand that you were hurt deeply, but why punish these innocent souls for crimes they did not commit?” The baby suddenly giggled softly, and my heart shattered even more. Behind me, I felt a warm hand rest gently on my shoulder. It was Zain, Aisha’s father. His eyes were also filled with pain, though he tried to remain strong. “Rumisha,” he said softly, pulling me into a comforting hug, “everything is going to be okay.” “How can it be okay?” I cried. “Our daughter is gone, and now these babies…” “They are our family now,” Zain interrupted gently. “And we will love them the way they deserve to be loved.” I buried my face into his chest and sobbed quietly while the twins continued crying softly in the background. The next morning, sunlight streamed through the large windows of the mansion. Rosa, the housekeeper, was feeding the twins while they laughed and played innocently on a soft blanket. “They are so beautiful,” Rosa said warmly while smiling at them. “Mrs. Khan, what are the babies’ names?” Her question startled me because it had never crossed my mind before. At the breakfast table, silence filled the room as Zain read the newspaper while I stared absentmindedly at my tea. The television in the dining room suddenly switched to the morning news. One of the reporters spoke confidently. “This is Maisha reporting to you live from Miami…” Then the main journalist appeared on the screen. “Thank you, Maisha,” she said elegantly. “This is Asha Khan, concluding today’s headlines.” I looked closely at Zain before speaking. “How about Maisha and Asha?” Zain looked confused for a moment. “What do you mean?” “The babies’ names,” I replied softly. “Maisha and Asha.” Zain stared at the twins playing nearby before a faint smile appeared on his face for the first time in days. “I think the names are beautiful,” he said gently. “In fact… perfect.” Rosa smiled happily. “They truly suit them.” I looked at the babies again and felt tears form in my eyes, but this time they were softer. “Yes,” I whispered lovingly. “Maisha and Asha.” From that day onward, we all silently agreed never to speak about Aisha again for the twins’ sake. But deep inside my heart, I knew no mother could ever truly forget her child. Will’s POV I sat beside my mother’s hospital bed, staring at her weak figure while thinking about the love of my life. It had been one whole year since I last spoke to Aisha. I had tried countless times to reach her, but every effort went in vain. It was as if she had blocked me out of her life completely. Even though I was in the United States, my heart remained wherever she was. “My Aisha…” I whispered painfully while rubbing my exhausted face. “You are the only woman I will ever love.” The machines beside my mother continued making slow, repetitive beeping sounds. I looked at her frail hand in mine. “Mom,” I said softly, forcing a smile, “you promised me we would go home together, remember?” My mother weakly opened her eyes and gave me a faint smile. “You should… go back to her,” she whispered weakly. My throat tightened instantly. “Don’t say that. You need rest.” “She loves you,” my mother murmured softly. “I saw it in your eyes whenever you spoke about her.” Tears burned my eyes. “I think she hates me now.” “No,” she whispered gently. “Real love never disappears that easily.” Suddenly, the continuous beeping became louder and faster. Doctors and nurses rushed into the room immediately. “Sir, please step outside!” one of the doctors ordered urgently. I stumbled backward in panic. “What’s happening?!” “Please, sir!” The doors shut in front of me. I stood outside helplessly, my hands shaking violently while tears streamed down my face. “No… no, please…” I muttered repeatedly. Minutes felt like hours. Finally, the doctor stepped out of the room looking defeated. The moment I saw his expression, my heart dropped. “I’m sorry, Mr. Daniel,” he said quietly. “We did everything we could.” I froze completely. “No…” “Your mother passed away.” The world around me suddenly felt empty. I leaned against the wall as tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably. At the same moment I lost my mother… I realized I had already lost the woman I loved too, the woman that brought me into this world, my wonder woman has left me...... Three days after the funeral, Ethan finally gathered the courage to tell me the truth. He stood by the window in silence, his hands shoved deep into his pockets while the rain poured heavily outside. The room smelled of grief, of unanswered prayers, and the fading memories of my mother. “Will…” Ethan called softly. I looked up at him with tired eyes. “What is it?” He hesitated. That hesitation alone terrified me. “Just say it, Ethan.” He swallowed hard before speaking. “Aisha… she got married.” For a moment, the world stopped. My heartbeat froze. The air in my lungs disappeared. “What did you say?” I whispered. Ethan lowered his eyes. “Aisha married Neil Kapoor… your business rival. They’re living in Dubai now.” My heart sank even more. The very thought of her being with another man broke me even more. I was left with a lot of questions. I laughed bitterly, shaking my head in disbelief. “No… no, that’s impossible.” “It’s true, Will,” Ethan said quietly. I staggered backwards, running my fingers through my hair. “I mean how could you do this to me, Aisha?” My voice cracked painfully. “Was it money that you needed? Why, Aisha?? Why!!!!!” I screamed so loudly that the glass beside me trembled. Ethan tried to calm me down. “Will, please—” “No!” I shouted. “Don’t defend her!” I grabbed the picture frame sitting beside my bed — the one with Aisha smiling in my arms — and stared at it with trembling hands. “I just lost my mother…” I whispered brokenly. “And now you have gotten married to my worst enemy.” Tears burned my eyes. “I will never forgive you, Aisha Khan. I promise I will hate you all the days of my life.” The room fell silent except for the sound of my uneven breathing. “I thought what we had was special,” I continued painfully. “I thought nothing could ever separate us…” I clenched my jaw tightly. “But it turns out that I was deeply wrong.” Ethan stepped closer carefully. “Maybe there’s another explanation—” “What explanation, Ethan?” I snapped. “What explanation could possibly justify this?” He had no answer. “Just one year…” I laughed bitterly again. “One year, Aisha. One year and you didn’t bother looking for me or contacting me.” I slammed the frame onto the table angrily. “You couldn’t wait for me despite making so many promises.” Memories of her flooded my mind — her smile, her laughter, the way she held my hand and promised she would always love me. Every memory now felt like a knife twisting deeper into my chest. “How could you marry another man, Aisha?” I whispered helplessly. Ethan looked at me with pity. “I’ve never seen you like this before.” “That’s because I gave her everything,” I replied bitterly. “My heart… my soul… my future.” I looked up at the ceiling as tears rolled down my cheeks. “From today onwards, Aisha Khan, I promise to hate you with passion.” My voice became colder. “All the love I felt for you will turn to pure hatred.” Ethan sighed heavily. “Will, hate will destroy you.” I wiped my tears roughly. “Maybe I’m already destroyed.” The pain in my chest became unbearable. “And God knows I didn’t plan to hate you…” I whispered softly as if Aisha could hear me from miles away. “But I will hate you forever and ever.” I slowly fell to my knees, breaking down completely while Ethan stood there helplessly, watching his best friend shatter into pieces.
