chapter 4

Dom and Eliana stood quietly at their mother's grave. The morning air was cool, wrapped with warmth that made the silence feel heavier. Dom stood in front of the grave, hands folded and head bowed. His face, mixed with rage and regret, rage because the Bellanti's were partly involved in her death, full of regrets that he hadn't loved her longer… just a little more. Mrs. Jenna Capo had been the pride of the Capo family, sharp calculative and commanding. Not only did she know how to manipulate losses into opportunities, she made silence feel like strategy and love like power. Perhaps, that's where Dom inherited his strength from. He knelt down slowly and put the flower bouquet next to her grave, the white lilies settling in the breeze. His voice was low but the weight in it could shatter glass. “i promise to get hold of those who caused your death.” No other words. Just silence. Dom’s mother was overseeing the construction of a new building project, which was supposed to be a major investment for both families. Unknowing to them, the land the Bellanti's family bought was illegally sold by a fraudster, someone who had no real ownership of it. When Dom’s mother went to inspect the site personally, she discovered some irregularities and tried to check it out. But before she could take action, a part of the unstable structure collapsed, fatally injuring her. The collapse was tied to the fact that the site was still under construction. The construction was supposed to be demolished a few days after they found out about the fraud. But when the Bellanti's found her body on that day, they had no idea that Jenna went to oversee the construction and denied any involvement in her death. When Dom found out about it he got angry and promised to rip the Bellanti's and tear them apart bit by bit till they finally tear down. After a long silent moment at his mother's grave, Dom exhaled and stepped away. Pulling out his phone, he walked a few distance, backing Eliana. “ We need to execute our next plan now.” He said into his phone, his voice soft but commanding. “I’ll be in the office within thirty minutes.” Ending the call, he turned back, his expression softening as he approached his sister. He leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead. “I’ll be off now” he said with a faint, warm smile, the kind he rarely showed to anyone. She nodded quietly, the breeze blowing strands of her hair across her face, as she watched him leave. … “Ok sir.” The tall man said, in black suit that stood across from Dom in his office. Dom handed to him a few documents and signaled him with a wave of his hand to leave. Dom delved his hand into the pockets of his suit pants and reached for his phone. He dialled a number and someone on the other end answered. “I'll be needing our legal team in place.” He said into the phone. His gaze fixed on a spot. “Yeah. Hope you have everything planned out?” Dom asked as he stood up, placing his other hand into his pockets like someone was about to take his picture. “One mistake and you're fired!” His tone, low but commanding. He hung up the call and walked across the room to the window, he watched the birds outside fly freely in the air. He gave a sly smile, the one that held secrets he had no intention of sharing. Then he muttered to himself. “Just wait and watch.” … “Well if you need anything,” Mr Greg said as he reached for his suit pocket, delved his hand into it and brought out a business card. He placed the card on the table and pushed it towards Marco. “You can call me. Anytime.” He concluded with a faint smile, one that was suspicious but kind of assuring. He stood up from his chair and bowed a little, “ see you next time.” And he left Marco’s office. Marco took a deep sigh and relaxed on his chair for a moment, his hands massaging his chin and he gave a cocky smile while he spinned his chair a little to the right and back to the left. “Wow!” He uttered. ‘For the first time, Sofia is going to be impressed.’ He thought. All he ever wanted to do since Sofia gave him the slap that changed his life, was to prove himself worthy. He wanted to prove he wasn't just lame or a good for nothing. He wanted to prove that he could handle the business, if not we'll but a little bit to make someone proud, Sofia. Immediately he remembered the document Mr Greg gave him for Sofia to sign. He stood from his chair in a haste, carried the documents on the table with him and left the office. I'm Sofia's office, “So?” Sofia said as she raised a brow looking at the papers disgustingly. Marco leaned closer to her, a little excited. “Look!” He adjusted the chair a little forward, “This is a big opportunity to get Bellanti ventures out of their current mess.” He sounded too convincing to be true. Sofia leaned back on her chair and looked at Marco straight into his eyes for a second. She squeezed her lips, indecisive. “Look I'll have to rethink this, this offer is mighty. And, could be risky too.” Her anxiousness was very evident in her tone, calm and shaky. Marco closed his eyes in disappointment and faced away. He sighed, “This is a once in a lifetime deal, Sofia.” He paused, waiting to see her reaction. He reached for her hand and held it, squeezing it in assurance. “ This is an expansion right for us. We can do it.” He said and raised his brows in question Sofia not feeling convinced, unwillingly agreed. “Ok. But if anything goes wrong it's all on you.” She said as she removed her hand from her brother's and signed the paper. “Yes!” Marco smiled with a little too much excitement. “Now that's what we are talking about.” Sofia smiled back at him. Hiding her weary expression. This deal could actually be a big turn up for the Bellanti's. She thought. But there was still something very unsettling about whatever just happened. … Sofia, Maria, Stella, Cherry and a few other of their friends had gathered in Sofia's house to discuss the upcoming elite masked party. The girls were chilling in the massive living room. Bottle drinks, soda, beers popping, glass clanking, and cups cheering. The girls laugh was loud enough to disturb the neighbors. “Stop that!” Stella said as she laughed her eyes out, tears dropped from them. “Oh my God! I can't believe you could actually do that .” Maria said sitting on the hand of a small sofa, legs crossed. The drink in her hand spilled a little from the movement she made while laughing. “And the next thing he is all over me, asking to give him more. I did of course. I won't lie I enjoyed it.” Cherry said again making the girls to go on their last round of laughter. Sofia stood up from her chair, carried a glass cup on the centre table in front of her and a fork, she hit the glass with the fork to draw the attention of the girls. “Ok ok. Alright everyone.” She paused as she dropped the glass on the table. She smiled, “Maria will be hosting our yearly elite masked party!” She said and raised her hands suspended in the air, “who's excited?!” She asked, bubbly. The girls screamed, “woooooooooo!” Using their hands to make an oval shape around their lips.
