Sofia had gone to Dom’s office immediately she left the police station. She drove recklessly on the road, people seeing her might have thought she was mad.
Officer Trent had told them back at the police station that it is a non bailable offense. He said that Mr. Capo had given them a clear warning not to release Marco until the court has made the verdict.
He adviced that the only way was to beg Mr. Capo to withdraw his complaint.
While driving to Dom’s office, Sofia racked her whole brain. It almost cracked, on how these false allegations came to light.
Her memory took her back to when Marco told her to sign some documents with some foreign investors for expansion right.
“Oh my God!” She murmured to herself. “Marco what have you done?” her voice a little squeaky out of frustration as she hit the steering wheel continuously. She covered her mouth with one hand and thought the only way was to beg Dom.
She knew that this was another of Dom’s plan to bring them down, but this time, he definitely crossed all limits.
She barged into his office, for the second time. Sofia really got some nerves.
But this time she didn't utter a word. The tears that streamed down her eyes was good enough to get Domenico's attention.
Dom was working on some papers when she walked in unannounced, he looked at her as though she's someone new he is seeing for the first time. He slowly dropped his pen on his desk and learned backwards to rest his back on the chair.
He narrowed his eyes as though he didn't see the tears in her eyes vividly, he wasn't oblivious to the fact that she was actually crying.
He didn't say a word and just watched her.
She didn't say a word too, she watched him long enough until the tears built up so much they made everywhere blurry. Then she lowered her gaze and shut them out to roll down her face.
She sniffled. “Why are you doing this?* Her tone was calm and respectful.
Whoa! Did Sofia just surrender?
He looked away swiftly and scoffed looking back at her again. “So you finally decided to ask the right question, huh?” He smirked, the one that pricked her soul and made her burn out of rage.
Her stare was solid and bizarre, she bit her lips very hard trying hard not to let her sobbing noise out, to escape her mouth.
He stood up, confidently but slowly. Like someone that owned the area. He dived his hands into the pockets of his pants. Tilting his head a little to match her posture. He walked slowly but mockingly towards Sofia.
Sofia adjusted her look, since he came nearer. Straightening her face.
He raised one of his hand from his pocket and placed his index finger on her cheek, as a tear dropped to his index, he moved his finger away and stared at it, like it was some gold.
“This is a sign of weakness.” He said and turned to Sofia. “Sofie, you shouldn't be crying.” He bent a little to her ear and whispered. “ You are betraying the heiress in you.”
“What do you want me to do? What do you want? Why are you doing this Dom?” The tears building more and more uncontrollably. Her legs shaking in question.
She clenched her fist tightly, she didn't even notice when those nails extension began to hurt her.
He placed his hands on her shoulders. “I'm proud! You've finally come to your senses. So I'll answer you” he said and turned away, heading to his chair.
But Sofia followed him and turned him towards her, “answer me now!” Her voice, deep and furious. As her eyes shone so wide.
He gave a cocky smile and pulled her hand away from his arm. “Relax, Sofie. You are getting all worked up for nothing”
“For nothing you say.” Her voice still matching her posture. “First you…” she shut her eyes again. Tired of explaining and explaining.
She pulled away from him, stepping back a little and then she increased her tone, but her cry overwhelming it. “I promise to do whatever you want. Just get my brother released.” She said and folded her hands together tightly as she bowed her head to plead.
“That's quicker than I thought.” Dom uttered, no pity.
She looked at him and her pain written all over her face even in her voice. “Please Dom,” then she knelt down to the floor, “anything you say. Just get him released. My father won't be able to take it, I'm sure he must have heard the news by now.”
Sofia's humbleness was evident in her entire expression and the way she pulled herself.
Dom moved one step closer to her and bent down. “Sofia Bellanti.” He said stressing his words. “Who would have thought you'll end up at my feet one day. I mean, imagine it.” He said and gave a faint smile. “Stand up!” His fingers wrapped round her arms pulling her up to stand.
“You are smarter than I even thought. You know fully well that I am behind this, quick thinking.”
Sofia wasn't ready for discussions. “Withdraw the complaint. Do you have any idea the consequence of what you did?” Her eyes squeezing in annoyance as she looked at Dom
“Yep! I know! I know what I just did and where it's taking me.” He turned away from her headed to his desk and sat barely on it .
“I don't understand?”
“Well, it will take more than begging to get Marco released.” He paused and waited to see her reaction. “Well, I must say he is really some greedy… uh-huh” he shook his head, softly. “He is really trying to prove his worth. But people might see him as greedy.” He gave a very sly grin.
Sofia gnashed her teeth in frustration. Her hands folded together, she moved fast towards him, so close he looked down to her.
Her heart raced for that moment, she felt everywhere seize, her breath, the air, the seconds, just for that moment.
And then she finally spoke, “get straight to the point!” Low, but commanding. Her eyes locked into his without blinking.
It must take some strong courage to do what Sofia just did. To the Almighty Dom, whom everyone feared.
As if she wasn't close enough, Dom leaned closer. At this point, Sofia’s thoughts already traveled.
‘what is he trying to pull?’
‘Does he want to kiss me?’
‘is this a way of taking due advantage of me?’
And all manner of thoughts came to her in split seconds. Dom bent a little like he was about to kiss her. Oh my!
Sofia's heart raced faster, she could hear it beating. Her whole body felt vulnerable. Something she hadn't even felt for Kane. That moment felt like it was unrealistic. Her hands began to tremble, her face and her expression softened. Everything under the subjection of Dom’s action.
“Marry me” he finally spoke and said nothing else.
And that was the moment Sofia knew everything had gone wrong for her, it was just the beginning of her downfall.
