The drive down was easy enough. Her Nan slept for the first half of the trip. Sydney gave her another pain pill when they reached Oliver and her grandmother was quite comfortable the rest of the way. While Jessie went into the hospital in Oliver to get a wheelchair, a pair of crutches, a shower stool, and a medical seat riser with arms for the toilet, Sydney filled her in on the fire and what was happening at the farmhouse.
“What will happen if they evacuate Stoney Creek?”
“They"ll move the Fire Centre elsewhere and we"ll pack up and move back to your house in Kelowna. They won"t need the farm anymore.”
Elizabeth looked aghast. “Oh dear. I hope you don"t lose it to fire.”
