KNIFE BURN ROSE POV “Go ahead and sign the document and stop calling me every day to verify… David is my husband! My sweetheart and he deserves everything he asks for! Don’t let me relieve you of your job …this man!” I blushed hard as my memory rewind automatically to how I screamed at my loyal and old lawyer earlier today. “But madam… your husband has been bringing these documents for almost a year now, different types and I just signed one yesterday… he brought another one this morning again.. I think..” my lawyer was about to suggest something and I knew it would spoil my shopping mood so I cut him off by hissing and ending the call abruptly. Thinking about the way I reacted and how I was too harsh on him, I shrugged and continued to set my dining table for tonight's romantic dinner, but I kept feeling bad about how I treated my lawyer. “Must make it up to him!” I mentally tasked myself to call him once it was morning to apologize for being rude. “Must he call me whenever my husband asks for money, he should know David is special and sign the document right away! I trust my man and he won’t ask for money he doesn’t need” I was murmuring to myself as I was alone in my big magnificent house, I had sent away all my workers and security earlier this evening. “It’s my anniversary dinner today and I don’t want disturbance… it’s three years with David and it will be special as usual!” I reminded myself, blushing harder than I did when I was thinking about my earlier conversation with my lawyer. Just then I heard my husband's car zoom into the compound, he was asking the gatekeeper on shift tonight if I was home. I adjusted my purple sexy gown and smiled excitedly at how delicious and attractive I looked. I had gone to the mall to get a new dress for this occasion. Instantly I light the scented candle and pranced like a child to the main entrance door, opened the door just as my husband got there, my smile waned away like a dead leaf immediately I set my eyes on him. “What’s Olivia dining here? It’s our dinner night today and we don’t receive gusset today! … talk to me and why is she staring at me like that!” I bursted out, confusion getting a hold of me and my voice was starting to shake. “Come in darling ….” My husband took Olivia's hand and tugged her past me like I didn’t just ask him a question. Olivia smiled mockingly at me and walked past me hastily. I ran after them, fear beginning to creep into my angry and confused mind. “It’s obvious you know what’s happening here! You know Olivia as my childhood friend and you’ve been paying her education fee for the past six years now .. but she’s not my friend. I lied! She's my girlfriend and she’s pregnant for me, the baby you refused to give me since I married you three years ago!”. My husband spat at me, at the same time walking to the refrigerant to get a drink from Olivia who had the guy open my fridge to take a drink. “What are you saying David…?.. you’ve been the one comforting me about my fertility problems, why are you insulting me with it now…?.. and how is Olivia pregnant for you? what’s happening here!” I didn’t know when I started crying, my heart was racing too fast, Olivia was sipping the chilled juice and handing another glass to my husband, eyeing me like I was her slave, the same person rolling and crying for me to help, I did all her tuition fee!. “So she’s the reason you were angry unnecessarily and being cold to me this morning before leaving for work? you knew you would be bringing her to our house tonight or all night so you set the mood already this morning and fought with me intentionally?” I asked my husband, staring at him intensely, but I couldn’t read any emotions on his stone-cold face. He stood by one of the cushions in the first living room where we were all Standing and was panting heavily like an animal who was hungry to eat up its prey. “Still asking me stupid questions… get out of this house now and expect the divorce letter anytime from now, I’m no longer interested!” He growled at me. “David! What are you saying…?… get out of which house! My house!.. have you forgotten I own everything here and even the company you work in, I feed you and cloth you, love you and give you everything you need.. just this morning I was telling you to rest since the company belongs to me, you shouted at me and told me I was looking down at you because it’s my company and I think you are lazy…so this was what you had in mind?… to guilt trip me and make me feel like I’m Not doing enough for you?” I was glaring intensely at David hoping it was just a prank but when Olivia's slap hit my face I knew right there and then that they were serious, she wouldn't have dared to slap me if David wasn’t right and solidly behind her. “This woman is too proud!… just listen to the gibberish she’s spitting out, to hell with your wealth and money… fool!” She Barked at me, and my mind and peaceful stance flew out with the slap I just received, I moved closer to her and raised my hand to hit her back on her cheek but my husband quickly held my hand. “Look here, woman… you should respect yourself and accept that you’ve lost me…. I didn’t love you right from the beginning and every day was a new challenge and pain, sleeping and living with you in the same house…..” my husband informed me, my hand fell automatically to my side like a boneless flesh. “ close your mouth and listen to my man properly, yes! We both tricked you of your money and power... that’s all we wanted, nothing more! And now that we have it, you can leave us alone!” Oliva completed my husband's sentence for him, I just stood there in shock, I couldn’t even find my voice. My mind was racing and picking up all the red lights that I ignored, up till this morning we had a nasty fight and I was still kneeling to beg him, he didn’t come home until late past midnight last night and I brushed it off all because I didn’t want to annoy him, now it’s clear that he had another woman and that woman is Olivia!. “You don’t need to cry and act like the victim rose, I’m only punishing you for what your father did to my father, your father duped my father of his money and made him a wretch… Pascal Williams.. does that ring a bell in your big head!” He snorted at me, jeering me out of my shock mode. Of course, I have heard the name countless times and my Late father wouldn’t stop talking about him, how he almost duped my father of all his money, my father's lawyer had miraculously found out his real identity before he was successful, so David is the son. “Your father was a thief and nothing more… deep down in your heart you know that and only want to find an excuse to steal from me .. my father was a businessman and he did business legally! They were friends but your father wasn’t ready to work. He only wanted to spend my father’s money” I yelled back at him with all the strength left in me. The disappointment and anger came back at me like widefire, “Before you steal from me like your father... I see you are not the truthful and respectable person I thought you were…. you are a cheat and I want you out of my house now!” I yelled, my eyes glaring widely at him. But I was amazed when he and Olivia burst into a very long and loud laughter, it felt like they had been waiting for me to send them out of my house, without much word, I watched as my husband brought out a document and dangled it in my face, I caught a glimpse of my signature in it and froze. “Yes .. it’s exactly what you think my dear ex-wife!!… but I didn’t steal from you as you mentioned just now, I only took back what your thief father stole from mine… now this house belongs to me… everything you owed, everything your parent willed to you, down to your clothes!… now get your foolish and dirty self out of my house!” His voice was sounding farther at every sentence he spoke to me and my head felt dizzy at once. “She made the plan so simple and easy … she was ordering her lawyer to sign every single document… I can never do that, she loves you David … she wants to use her money to steal my man… look at her ugly face…. Barren woman!” Olivia added more insult to what my husband just said and it was like adding petrol to an already burning and raging fire. I picked up my phone at once and dialed my lawyer’s number, hoping and praying he would tell me he didn’t approve my orders or listen to me. “madam I called you this morning to verify... I was complaining to you that your husband keeps bringing various documents to me for signature but you didn’t for once ask me what the documents were about… just this morning you ordered me to sign the document of transfer of all properties to him! And warned me not to tell You what’s in it as you trust your husband!.” My lawyer informed me, sounding angry and disappointed in me. There was no point in responding to him so I ended the call and fell slowly to the floor, my body shaking as I cried out hot tears, I was gasping for breath and couldn’t see anymore, aside from having only one percent of ever getting pregnant I had no problem or want in my life.. my parents willed their properties to me and I was doing just fine. “I regret the day I met you….five years ago and the day I said yes to marrying you three years ago..you comforted me whenever I cried because I couldn’t conceive … I tried everything, with IVF, adoption, and even surrogacy … the last one scammed us of our money, you were aware… “Please can you tell this woman to shut up and get out of our house… I don’t want to see her here!” Oliva shouted at the top of her lungs, Blaring out at my husband to kick me out, I gazed at my husband with tears in my eyes, searching his face for any form of his usual smile and loving look but they were all gone. “David … we can have our children, I went to the doctor yesterday and he gave me some drugs and injections again, he told us to make love tonight and try again… we can keep trying” with the way he was looking at me, I know I looked like a loser and sounded pathetic but I don’t care anymore, where do I start from after giving a man all my life and trust. The darkness was calling unto me and I felt myself falling to the floor, the last thing I heard was David mocking laughter and Olivia telling him to let go of me and let me die if I did wish, I guess I fainted after that.
