CHAPTER THREE

Uxsar's POV. "My Alpha, we have a problem in the pack," the guard said, but I cut him off with a hiss. "Not now, please." It had barely been two weeks since I took the crown from my father, and I was exhausted. I had been constantly putting out fires, solving one issue after another. To be honest, I never wanted to be an Alpha in the first place. I wouldn't mind handing the title over to Duncan, my half-brother. But my Father had always seen me fit for this, I was the crown prince and he had prepared me every step of the way. But the weight of being Alpha was far more than I expected. I turned back to the guard, who was still standing there. I let out a frustrated hiss. "Can't I have a moment to myself?" I barked, but he didn't flinch. "There are rumors of a coup trying to overthrow you," he said, his voice firm. I jerked my head up, shocked. "What did you just say?" I asked, disbelieving. "Alpha, some of our own are trying to overthrow you," he began, but before he could finish, I grabbed him by the neck, silencing him. I tightened my grip, my anger rising. My greatest fear as Alpha is being seen as unfit to lead the Pack. I was still young and inexperienced and it was no news some of the park members felt the same way. But a coup to overthrow me, that’s unforgiveable! "Do you know the consequences of what you just said? How dare you!" I spat. Just then, Duncan intervened, "What's the poor man's offense?" He asked, and I turned to face him, my eyes darting between Duncan and the guard. Duncan continued, "He was only telling the truth. Elder Selene and her husband Caleum are plotting a coup to overthrow you. They think you're not fit for the position of Alpha." I heard they have the help of an ancient power hidden in a pendant. It’s a strong magic capable of stopping anyone, even the strongest Alpha. As soon as Duncan finished speaking, I released the guard, gasping in shock. "What?" I exclaimed. "I'm as shocked as you are, brother," Duncan said, but I was struggling to believe it. "After everything you've done for them, and this is how they repay you?" Elder Selene and her husband were my father's most trusted advisors, so why would they think I'm not fit to lead? As if reading my mind, Duncan added, "They have a child, and I think they want to make their child the Alpha." That sounded like an unreasonable thing to say, but I believed it anyway. Duncan was blood and the closest family I had. My teeth clenched in anger. How dare they! Duncan's voice was firm. "You need to stay one step ahead of them." I raised an eyebrow, curious. "How?" I asked. Duncan's response sent a chill down my spine. "If you let them overthrow you, you're a coward. It's better to kill them or they overthrow you and get you killed" While Duncan's words rang in my head, I wanted to question them but I was afraid. I cannot be seen as weak. It was hard to believe this was happening, but Duncan was my brother - why would he lie to me? I quickly assembled my warriors, ready to take action. I approached their abode after going through the woods. This is almost an outskirt of the pack and I wondered why an elder of a prestigious pack as ours would choose to live here. ‘To hide their treachery of course’ I said to myself. I let out a loud growl as I approached their home. Elder Selene and her husband stepped out, bowing upon seeing me. I scoffed, "Anyone who attempts to overthrow the Alpha will be killed." They nodded, seemingly confused. Elder Selene asked, "Who's trying to overthrow you, my Alpha?" I scoffed again, detesting people who pretended innocence. With a deep sigh, I stepped forward, letting out a loud growl. It was then I saw the pendant radiating around her neck. I charged towards her and her husband got in the way almost immediately. One of my enforcers cut through him with a sword. He fell to the floor, clutching his wound. Elder Selene screamed, trying to rush to her husband, but my warriors held her back. I watched as she struggled, growling, "No one dares to challenge me!" I hit my chest, emphasizing, "You want to overthrow me?" She widened her eyes in surprise, trembling, "We would never do that." But I wasn't expecting her to admit it so easily. My eyes darted around, searching. "Where is your child?" I demanded. But she remained silent. "Answer!" I barked, but still, she said nothing. Enraged, I ordered my warriors to whip her. Despite beating her mercilessly, she refuses to say anything. Her husband was slowly dying and still she was adamant on admitting the treachery. My warriors searched everywhere and they couldn't find her child so I decided to burn the whole house knowing their child might be hiding in there. As my men set the house on fire. Elder Selene begged and cried but I can’t have any of that. Every treachery is punishable by death. As I approached the door to go into the house, I heard him calling out; My son! My son!” That was when I knew their child was a son.. I scoffed. "Stubborn b*st*rd. Search the house before it burns completely I instructed. And find evidence of their treachery". An enforcer scanned the area. "What about the child? The fool kept shouting about his son." "What about him?" another asked. My eyes darkened.." Yes, he has a son," I murmured, almost to himself. "He can't know what happened here," an enforcer hesitated. "He won't." I said, my voice was ice. "Not if we find him first. I don't need loose ends." "Where is the pendant?" I asked, my head snapped up, my eyes narrowing. "Go get it. Now!" With that my warriors began to search for it. I needed that pendant and suddenly I heard my warrior scream. "He was here!" one of the guards shouted. He dashed and bolted into the woods. "Get him!" I roared. I paced back and forth, still seething with anger, when an elder suddenly appeared, gasping in horror. "What have you done?" he exclaimed. I explained the events that had led me to burn down the house, but the elder's expression only grew more distressed. "Duncan lied to you," he said, his voice shaking. "They never planned to overthrow you. The rebellion was a fabrication, and you've been manipulated." My eyes blazed with anger as I let out a loud growl. I couldn't believe Duncan was behind this. I transformed into my wolf form and ran back home, my heart racing with rage. When I saw Duncan, I wanted to tear him apart, but our pack members intervened, separating us. In a fit of fury, I banished Duncan from the pack.
