CHAPTER FOUR

DUNCAN'S POV. I stood with my hands folded across my chest as I carefully observed her. The key to my revenge. Her beauty, her charm, was exactly what I needed. If there's one thing I know was that Uxsar's weakness was a woman, one that is beautiful. It was time to get my revenge, enough of being his shadow. I watched my father show the world that Uxsar was his blood but he never missed a chance to show how much he hated me. Did I ask to be born this way? I should be mad at him, not the other way round. Right up until the treachery, the plot to overthrow him as Alpha. Uxsar ensured my banishment, stripping me of my birthright and branding me an outcast. But I survived. More than that, I had prospered, establishing my own empire among the outlaws and turning into the Alpha they looked up to and feared. Alia's presence had been an unexpected boon. I didn't know why I saved her from the rogue's attack. I would have been unbothered on a normal day, but something about her drew my attention. Staring at her at this moment, I realise how beautiful and charming she was. Never have I seen anyone this beautiful. I could see beyond her tattered clothes, which was proof she had spent quite a while in the woods running away before the rogues found her. She hated Uxsar. I knew it. I could see it in her eyes; how it narrows with hate when she says his name. It was easy to spot that she wanted revenge. And that's precisely what I need from her, I will use her for my personal gains, when I'm done I will change Uxsar pack to mine and kill all those elders loyal to him. I will rule! This is the opportunity I have been waiting for. But I needed her to trust me first. "You want revenge, don't you?" I whispered, almost under my nose. She sucked in a breath. The word felt like fire in her veins. Revenge! She clenched her fists. "I can help you." She swallowed hard, "Why would you?" "Because I want him dead too." I said with a sneer. "But," I added, in a smooth voice, "There are conditions." She stiffened. Of course, there were. "You want my help?" I stepped even closer. "Then you follow my rules." She exhaled shakily. "What kind of rules?" Fear written all over her face. I lowered my head to meet her gaze. "One-you don't act without my permission. Two-you train under me. Hard. No excuses, no complaints. Three, I tell you to do something, you do it." I stared at her for a moment, then added, "And lastly, never, under any circumstance, tell anyone who you really are." She raised her brows in surprise. "Why?" My smirk faded, my eyes turning sharp. "Because if Uxsar finds out, a death worse than your parent's awaits you" She had seen what he did to her parents. She didn't need to be told twice. I moved closer, my steps measured, my face carefully devoid of emotion. "So? Do we have a deal?" After a long silence, A faint "yes" left her lips. "What did you say?" I needed to be sure I heard her correctly. Alia looked up, cautious but no longer terrified of me. I couldn't help but smile at my progress. "Yes..," she murmured, her fingers tightening around the hem of her dress. A perfect bait to finally bring Uxsar down I smirked. "Good. You will do exactly as I say.” _____ I tapped my fingers against the table, my gaze locked onto her to access her emotions. "You will gain access to Uxsar's pack." "What?" She gasped, her eyes widened in disbelief and I chuckled. I was enjoying how I'm slowly getting under her fingers. "You heard me," I replied, my voice firm. "You're going to become one of his palace maids." She stood up immediately. "No." The word slipped out from her lips. "Absolutely not." I arched my eyebrow with interest. "Then tell me, Alia, how exactly do you intend to get close enough to kill him? March through the gates with a dagger and hope for the best? Get trained and fetch out some men to help you bring him down?" She glared at me angrily but I didn't budge. I needed her to give me answers since she's already acting like she knows it all. I knew one thing, Uxsar people are the dumbest ever. "How would it even work?" she asked, I smirked. "Leave that to me. You’ll begin training immediately" ~ For weeks, months, years, I made sure to personally teach her the basics and everything necessary for her disguise. I couldn't afford to let her ruin everything. I made sure she took a series of tests and trainings. And during those times, I gained her trust. I walked into her room and she stood up bowing slightly. I gave her a curt nod. "You will be known as Liana," I instructed, pacing in front of her. "An orphan from a distant pack. No family, no ties. You keep your head down, do your work, and listen more than you speak." Immediately she raised her head. "How about I just change my surname? He does not know me as Alia, and I wouldn't love to change the name. Let's just go with the flow." I glared hard at her momentarily. "Your voice? Softer. Your posture? Meeker. If anyone even suspects you have an agenda, you're dead before you get the chance to take your revenge." "I understand." She responded, clenching her fist. I narrowed my eyes. "Do you?" She held onto my stare, refusing to look away. I sighed. "You're reckless, Alia. And recklessness gets people killed. I have connections inside the pack. People who…let's just say, owe me favors. They will make sure you're placed in the servant quarters. But from there? You're on your own." She nodded. I managed to bribe some people from Uxsar's pack. It caused me a fortune but I didn't mind. I made necessary arrangements and bid her farewell. With my hands crossed behind my back I smiled mischievously, she may believe she's on her own but I have eyes on her.
