Eva's POV
"I can't believe the nerve of this man! He played me like a game piece!" I paced angrily in my office as Sharlotte watched me astounded.
"Ms. McLane, are you going to sign the papers?", she enquired of me with the adoption papers in her hands.
"Sharlotte…" I was about to give her a response when the office phone began ringing. I squeezed me eyes shut and willed myself to calm down.
"Eva McLane's office, Sharlotte speaking", I opened my eyes to see Sharlotte with the phone pressed to her ear.
"It's for you", she told me and I looked up at the ceiling and groaned.
I reluctantly took the phone from her and answered, "Hello, this is Eva McLane".
"I know who you are!", the all to familiar voice of Quince sounded through the phone. I pulled the phone away from my ear and glared down at it before putting it back by my ear.
"What do you want?" I answered as nicely as I possibly could. I was in the office, I needed to be professional, or at least act the part.
"How about the snail?" he enquired and I tightened my grip on the phone as I felt my anger boiling. This two timing bastard! All he ever truly cared about was the snail!
"If you have nothing good to talk about, I suggest you don't call at all Mr. Mavoric", I replied calmly, although I wanted to strangle him.
"Eva, I really need that snail. You have no idea how important it is to me", like I give a rat's butt.
"Then I suppose you won't mind telling me why it's so important", I looked at Sharlotte to see her attempting to sniffle a laugh. Was this actually amusing to her?
"I can't tell you that..."
"Then I suppose it's not that important", I cut him off before I hung up. I had no time for this right now.
The meeting with our allies had been unknowingly rescheduled to today! I was stressed and angry at the same time. That wasn't a good combination.
The phone started ringing once more and I picked it up.
"Hello..."
"Eva!" Quince's voice sounded and I wasted no time in cutting the call. If he called again...
The phone rang again and I glared down at it. I reluctantly picked it up.
"Eva, will you listen to me!" Quince seemed to be getting angry.
"Leave me alone!" and with that I hang up on him for the third time.
I set the phone down on my desk and closed my eyes trying to clear my mind.
But the damn phone started ringing again and I opened my eyes to see Sharlotte was about to answer it.
"Don't you dare!" I seethed out and she retracted back to her former position with a cheeky smile on her face. I know I had a good boss-employee relationship with my employees, but this is where I draw the line.
I inhaled and exhaled a few breathes in an attempt to dissipate my anger. The meeting was in an hour or so and I needed to calm down before I snapped at one of our allies.
"Mr. Chevor is here", I heard Sharlotte state before the sound of my office door closing shut was heard. I wouldn't be in this office much longer, if things worked out great at the meeting. Soon, I would be in my dad's office.
I heard a knock on the office door and spun around to go see who was there. I opened the door and was greeted by Mr. Chevor. The young business man was one of dad's allies who he never boded well with. Mr. Chevor was simply arrogant and felt the world revolved around him and his company, Chevor Inc.
It was famous for its revolutionized ways of dealing with building codes. His staff were always on their toes, most likely because of his attitude. He was good looking, with lovely green eyes and blonde hair that was styled to perfection. However, his attitude was the opposite of his looks.
"Come in Mr. Chevor", I stepped to the side for him to enter, which he did, "Can I ask why you're an hour early for the meeting?"
He was often early for meetings, as were the other allies, but never this early.
"I simply thought we could chat for a while", he stated as he took a seat in a visitors chair by my desk.
"About what?" I asked suspiciously as I sat on my chair behind my desk. He wasn't one to beat around the bush with meaningless chatter. Unless, he had an ulterior motif behind it...
He passed me a few papers which I simply didn't have the time to look at. What was he playing at here?
"What is that?" I enquired with knitted eyebrows.
"Why don't you take a look", he smirked at me. Well this certainly wasn't good, not good at all.
I stared at the papers before I reluctantly picked them up. What I saw written in them had my eyes bulging out and my skin paling.
"Marriage papers? The company's dead?" I breathed out. Mr. Chevor's grin only widened, if that was even possible.
"Yes Ms. McLane. I think you know what those mean", he got up and walked round the desk to stand behind me.
"No, I don't", I tried catching my breathe. My breathing was decreasing once more and I hoped I didn't get another panic attack.
"Allow me to explain then", me placed his hands on my shoulders, "I have your company's dead, if you marry me, you and I can run the place together".
"And if I don't?" the thought of marrying him was simply preposterous!
"Then your company will become the new branch of Chevor Inc.", he whispered in my ear.
Why this blackmailing son of a beetle! How dare he!... And I thought Quince was a two timing scum.
"Listen here Mr. Chevor", I got up and removed his hands of my shoulders, I needed space to breathe, "I have no interest in becoming Mrs. Chevor any time soon. Or any time in my life for that matter".
I began walking towards my office door. I needed to get out of there, I needed fresh air. I was already beginning to feel faint.
"Then I suppose you have no interest in saving your daddy's company either, now do you?" he enquired and I was halted in my steps.
