Her Royal Right

Running down the corridor with the palace crumbling around me, I know I need to get to the Queen's quarters now. This has been coming for years. The council has been trying to overturn the monarchy. They want control of everything, but it is my job to protect the royal family. I arrive at the queen quarters knocking as I enter. “Your Majesty, we need to leave now,” I tell her. She looks at me with the two princes and the young princess. “NO Guardian Elijah, (who is 25 and 6’8 strong, muscular, black wavy hair, grey eyes, full lips around his eye a blue crescent moon with cross swords and has a twin brother Isaiah.) I can not leave; that was never the plan,” Queen Madelyn says. “You and Guardian Isaiah as well as Prince Ezekiel (who is 18 and 6’7, muscular, black wavy hair, green eyes, full lips around his eye a blue crescent moon with a crown with a left star) and Prince Dominic (who is also 18 and 6’7, strong, muscular, black wavy hair, green eyes, full lips and around his eye a blue crescent moon with a crown with a right star)  Princess Lillian (who is 2 and is 3’3, with auburn hair, green eyes, full red lips, around her eye a blue crescent moon with a crown with a center star) to the new land and observe the packs there. My daughter must take my place when she is old enough to understand.”  “No, my lady, we must save you and the king as well.” Said my twin brother Isaiah who is 25 years old and is 6 '8, solid muscle, black wavy hair, grey eyes, full lips around his eyes, a blue crescent moon with cross swords. “It is our job..”   The queen cut him off; “No, it is now your job to protect the princess from all harm. She will now be your queen. I order you by royal decree to keep her safe and alive, teach her our ways while observing all the new lands.”  “As you wish, my lady.” We both tell the queen as we feel her decree take effect. The queen then pulls out some old scrolls I had never seen before and gave them to me. “What are these, my lady? I have never seen these before?” I ask her. “They are the records of the old ways, old laws—stories of our ancestors and our mother, the Moon Goddess. Keep them safe and study them and teach my boys and daughter. My sweet daughter will have a tough time understanding these things that you must teach her Guardian Elijah.” Queen Madelyn said. I take the scrolls and place them in my bag.  “My lady, may I ask a question?” Guardian Isaiah asked. “Yes, Isaiah, what is it?” Queen Madelyn replied. “How may I ask, are we getting to the new land and which one are we going to?” Isaiah asked. The Queen and King looked at each other, and with a tearful smile, she said, “We are going to use the moon magic to send you there. The Moon Goddess…”  She was cut short when we heard the bombs going off around, shaking the palace around us. “You need to go now.” She says urgently. She and the King, with the princess in his arms, looked at their children with tears in their eyes, knowing that this will be the last time they will see them. My brother and I walked over to the family, known that this is hard for them.  “We need to go now, my lady, or we risk being caught,” I tell them. The queen and king look at each other. My King hands the young princess to her brother Prince Dominic. The Princes look at their parents and tell them that they do not have to worry they will take care of the princess.  Both me and Isaiah go and stand next to the princes and princess. The King and Queen stand next to each other, and the king takes out the packing knife, cuts his hand, and then hands the queen the knife and does the same. She then motions to me to come to get the knife, which I did.  As the blood flows, my Queen says, “ With the light of the moon hide and keep safe the knowledge of my children. Let them blend and hide the royal marks till the future Queen finds her King.” I felt my head start to feel heavy with those words, and I became a little dizzy. The King and Queen both look to the moon and say, “ Mother, take our blood to hide and remove our children and our top two guardians to a safe place in the new land so they can learn and grow.” I felt sleepy and heavy as the world swirled around me. The next thing I know, I am on the ground. It is warm, and I can smell the dew on the grass. I start to look up, allowing my senses to fly out to see any danger. I only sense the three people still sleeping with my princess awake and playing with a bunny.  She picks up the bunny and brings it to me, and says, “Guardian Elijah, look what I found.” Her sweet childish voice brings tears to my eyes as the realization that my King and Queen are gone. Our way of life is gone. Now we must figure out how to create a new monarchy. My little princess has a lot on her shoulders already, and she is only two years old.
