The car ride to the house was a short one but was very secluded. The car turned down so many winding backroads, for a second Lilly thought they must be lost. After a a view of only trees for miles a house finally came into view. It was an old victorian style home with faded shutters and a huge oak door on the front. The car pulled around the circle drive to the base of the steps.
Waiting on the steps outside stood three men. Two of them looked identical to one another, while the other man standing closer to the door looked slightly older. In a flash the pit in Lilly's stomach opened wide enough to swallow her. This was not nerves. This was Nature telling her she shouldn't be here.
"Damn girl, they are all kinds of fine. Which one is yours again?" Misty asked in awe. Lilly looked out the window again. The twins were tall and muscular with straight jaws and jet black hair, both cut in a military buzz cut style. The older man was tall and lean but had hints of well defined muscles in his folded arms. His hair was jet black as well but slightly longer and more unkept.
"Shane is one of the twins." Lilly managed to breathe out. She really felt the need to run and fast.
Devin had already reach the car door to open it for the girls. When the door pulled open, Lilly sat frozen on the seat. The fight or flight just stopped and she was unable to move at all. Misty could see the fear on Lilly's face and jumped out of the car. She grabbed Lilly's hand as she went and jerked her out of the car too.
The sudden and unexpected movement made Lilly stumble forcefully out and she was unable to completely gain her balance. Just as she felt herself start to fall face first on the ground, two hands under her shoulders steadied her.
That one touch, touched everything in Lilly. It even calmed the raging storm in her stomach, like a river had been poured over a campfire. She looked up in shock to see her savior. It was one of the twins. Their eyes met and everything around them shattered and fell away. His eyes were green with gold flecks around the pupil. The gold seemed to sparkle.
He looked back into her eyes and for an instant it felt as though they were connected and complete. Then he blinked and his eyes turned cold. He dropped the hands that were holding her and turned toward the house. With four long strides he reached the door and slammed it behind him.
