“Let me guess you’re grieving.” I said, my voice full of pain.
Chase’s eyes flickered from black to blue.
“Lillie, what are you doing here?” He asked, taking a step towards me.
“Don’t! I am here to be with my mate and comfort him but it looks like he has found somebody else to comfort him.”
I looked at Brooklyn only to see her smiling. I was such an i***t. Of course they would be together. He didn’t want me and I could no longer take the heart ache.
I turned and ran from the house. I couldn’t stay any longer or she would see me cry.
I could hear Chase behind me and I tried to run harder but he quickly caught me.
“Don’t run from me, Lillian. My wolf is having a hard time not taking you.”
But I didn’t stop until I felt Chase’s arms wrap around me. He pulled me to him and I heard him take a deep breath.
“I am going to let you go, but don’t run.”
He slowly released me but I didn’t turn to look at him. I would not let him see me cry. All the trust I had built was destroyed again.
“Baby, please look at me.”
For some reason, him calling me baby only angered me. I turned around and looked up at him.
“What? I don’t have time for your excuses, Chase. Now that I know the truth, I am going back to school.”
I could see the pain on his face but I didn’t care. “I know that looked bad but it’s really not what you think.”
“Really cause I think I saw another wolf, whom you kissed, wrap herself around you as you stood there and smiled at her. Had I not burst in, I think you would have kissed her.”
“I wasn’t going to kiss her. She was acting like my Gram. That was stuff my Gram would do with everybody. That is why I was smiling.”
“Right. Just…..just reject me and get it over with because I can’t live with a mate that makes me feel like this.”
I watched as his eyes turned from black to blue a few times.
“I will never reject you. It is taking all of my strength to keep Apollo from marking you right now. We both hate seeing you hurt.”
I didn’t know what to say. I was so mad. I wanted to believe him but he kissed her once and now here he is with her in his house.
“I love you Lillian. I want to spend forever with you.”
He pulled me to him and softly pressed his lips to mine. I wanted to pull away but I couldn’t. I missed this too much.
As he kissed me, I felt like my entire body was waking up. But eventually I had to pull away.
He rested his head against mine.
“You can’t just kiss me and think it fixes everything.”
He chuckled. “I can do other things if that will fix it.”
I felt my face burn and I knew I was red.
“Chase!”
He laughed again, trying to pull me tighter to him.
“Lillian, I swear to you what you saw with Brooklyn was not what you think. Please let me explain.”
For a minute I had forgotten, but hearing him say her name filled me with anger again. I wanted to tell him no and punch him in the face, but I needed to give him a chance to explain. There is no disputing it…We are mates.
“Fine, but if I don’t like what I hear, we are done. Do you understand?”
He smiled back at me. “Yes.’
He took my hand and started to pull me to the house. “What are you doing?”
“You need to talk to my mom to understand.”
We made our way back to his house and when we walked into the living room, I saw Eli and Laney, his parents, Eli’s parents who are part of our pack, Laney’s parents from Alaska, Brooklyn and two other men. One of which looked to be about the same age as Eli and Laney.
Chase wasted no time introducing me as his mate.
“Finally, this is Alpha Roger and Brooklyn his daughter.” Which I already knew. I couldn’t help but glare at her. “And this is Damon…Brooklyn’s mate.”
My head snapped at Chase. He was smiling back at me.
“Lillian, I am so sorry about what happened between me and Chase in Alaska.” Brooklyn said before grabbing Damon’s hand. “I was lonely and should never have taken advantage of him. I knew he was in a bad place.”
She looked over at Chase before continuing. “I knew his Grandma had given him something to help him sleep. So I knew what I was doing when I gave him something to drink.”
My brain was in overdrive. Chase was not only depressed but drunk and drugged.
I stood in silence. Why didn’t he tell me?
I finally looked at him in confusion.
“I didn’t tell you, Lillian, because I still let it happen and I needed to take responsibility.”
I don’t know why, but it made me feel better.
He smiled at me like he could ready my mind.
Chase’s POV
I finally had a chance to really look at her.
She had changed so much. It makes sense it had been almost 2 years since we saw each other.
She was at least 3 inches taller and her hair was a lighter blonde.
But the biggest difference was her body. I could feel Apollo purring in approval. She had curves. Amazing curves. When I left, she still looked like a teenager, but now she was a woman. My woman!
“Mom, can you tell Lillie how Gram would sneak on people?”
Lillie looked over to my mom. “Oh she was a spitfire.” Mom stood and grabbed Dad, pulling him to his feet.
“Gram liked to wait till you were occupied or not paying attention and she would snake her arms around you from the back.” She watched as Mom wrapped her arms around Dad.
“Then she would push her knee into the back of one of yours.” When she did that to Dad, he almost fell but Mom caught him.
“She would always say.” She looked around the room and everybody in the room said. “Silly little wolf.”
Lillian’s POV
Laney turned to Eli and placed her hand on his cheek. “But don’t worry, silly, I caught you.”
Chase was grinning and so was everybody in the room.
“Gram was an ornery one.” Alpha Roger.
I looked over at Chase.” I told you it wasn’t what you thought.”
I was glad it wasn’t what I thought, but I still didn’t like her being around him.
“Well I’m glad.”
Chase pulled me to him and buried his face in my neck. “I love you and I missed you so much.”
I lifted his head to look at me. "I love you and missed you too.” I whispered and kissed him gently.
The next few days, I stayed by his side. For the first time, our pack finally realized we were mates. We had been right all along.
Chase did a great job of controlling Apollo. I was grateful because, as much as I loved him, I was just not ready to be marked
Shortly after Gram’s funeral, I headed back to school. Chase begged me to stay but I only had 3 months left. I was going to finish school.
Returning to our apartment left me feeling empty. But before I could dwell on being lonely, Brock came knocking on the door with my missed work.
