Chapter 16

1106 Words
The next two months went fast. Chase came to visit me three times. I feel like it would have been more had he not been training to be the Beta. He didn’t like Broc and no matter how many times I told him we were just friends. He wouldn’t let it go. “I don’t want you spending time with him.” “Are you serious right now, Chase?” “I don’t trust him.” “Then trust me.” I heard him let out a growl. “Apollo is just having a really hard time since he hasn’t marked you. I’m sorry.” “This was one of the reasons I wanted to wait to see each other again.” “I know but I am glad you came to Gram’s funeral. I needed you.” “I know and I am glad I came to see you.” “I can’t wait to see you tomorrow.” He reminded me, knowing he was coming to see me gave me butterflies in my belly every time. I couldn’t wait to see him. “I can’t either, but I need to get off the phone and get my homework done before you get here.” “Fine. I love you.” “I love you too.” ~~~~~~~The following day ~~~~~~~~~~~ Nana and Papa were getting ready to leave for a date, leaving me and Broc to wait for Chase. As they were reaching for the door, there was a knock. I pushed past them and pulled the door open to see Chase. I jumped into his arms and pressed my lips on to his. “ OK kids, that is enough, get in here before our neighbors see you.” Papa said with a chuckle in his voice. “Hi Nana and Papa.” Chase said, his cheeks pink from my Papa interrupting us. I pulled Chase into the living room. Once, we were in the living room, I could feel Chase tense when he saw Broc. “Chase, I really want you and Broc to get to know each other.” Chase’s POV All I wanted was some alone time with my mate, but instead she invited this guy. I knew it was important to her for me to get along with him, but I didn’t like him. Something felt off. Broc stood and put his hand out to shake mine. I shook his hand and smiled, but I am sure the smile didn’t reach my eyes. “Nice to meet you Chase. Lillian talks about you all the time.” “Yeah I bet.” “Chase.” Lillie said, giving me a cute pouty look she knew I couldn’t handle. “How does pizza sound?” Broc asked, breaking up our moment. “Sounds good to me,” Lillian said. “Yeah, I’m good with pizza.” “Great, one plain cheese and how do you like your pizza, Chase?” Broc asked, tapping away on his phone. “Pepperoni and green peppers. Is that OK with you, Lillie?” “Oh, the plain cheese is for me. I realized I didn’t really like anything on my pizza.” “Oh, I didn’t know.” “It’s OK, Chase. I did what you asked of me. I found myself.” She said with a giggle. I couldn’t help but feel a little upset that he seemed to know her better at that moment than I did, but it was only pizza. No big deal. We made small talk as Lillie told me about what she was going to be doing for the next month before coming home. “Do you guys want to watch a movie?” Lillian asked. “Yeah, I could watch a movie.” I answered and Broc nodded his head yes. “Comedy?” Broc asked, smiling at Lillian. “You know it!” “I thought you liked action?” I asked, confused. “Turns out I really like comedy.” She said, smiling at me. Again I felt upset but I smiled, realizing this was what I wanted. I wanted her to have her own opinion. A knock on the door stopped us from deciding on the movie. Lillian jumped up to get the pizza. Once Lillian was out of the room, Broc turned and looked at me. “Looks like I know your girl better than you do.” He said with a smirk. “I have known her my entire life. A movie and pizza doesn’t mean anything.” I could feel Apollo getting angry. “For the past year I have done nothing but get to know Lillian and I allowed her to have an opinion unlike you.” “I left so she could find herself.” He laughed and it almost sounded evil. “Don’t worry Chase, I will take good care of her when she is mine.” “What the hell are you talking about? She is coming home in a month.” “She wants to live and experience the world….and I am going to show her how to live. She doesn’t want to return home and be tied down at 17. I will wait till she is 18 and make her mine and there is nothing you can do to stop me.” He said with a smirk. “Hey you two, the pizza is here. Let’s eat.” Lillie said as she walked into the room with the pizza. I ate the pizza that didn’t have a taste for me and I watched the movie and found myself forcing a laugh. Shortly after the movie, Nana and Papa returned and Broc left. Lillie helped me put my stuff in the spare bedroom, which was also her art room. “Now tell me what is bothering you.” She said, wrapping her arms around me. “Nothing.” “Don’t lie to me, Chase.” “I just don’t like Broc and he said a few things that just had me thinking.” “What did he say?” She asked, looking concerned. “He said you wanted to live and experience the world and you might not want to come home after you graduate.” I expected her to immediately say he was wrong, but instead she sat in silence. I felt myself getting angry. Did she not want to return to our pack and start our lives together? It had to be something Broc put in her head. “You don’t want to come home, do you?” I asked. The anger filled my voice.
