“Yes she is.” My Mother said before I could say anything.
“Jaclyn, she is not going to college at 16.”
“Nana and Papa are going to be with her and she will stay in an apartment off campus with them.”
My head snapped to my Mom. “Nana and Papa are going for me?”
“Yes, I told you I would figure it out and this is the only way I could think to get your father to say yes.” She said, turning to look at my father.
He sat back in his chair and crossed his arms, not looking happy. “Fine, but you will call me every night.”
“Dad…”
“Fine every other night and I will not budge on that one.”
I jumped up and kissed him and wrapped him in a hug.
“You leave in a month. Right after you turn 16.” My mom said, surprising me.
“How do you know?”
“I received a call yesterday and already agreed to you leaving.”
My father looked defeated but eventually warmed up to the idea.
They found us an apartment within walking distance of the campus. It had 3 bedrooms, one for me, one for nana and papa, and one for my art.
King wasn’t happy about me leaving, but he understood.
Before I knew it, we were packing the car and making our way to our new home. It had been 4 months since I last talked to Chase and my heart still hurt whenever I thought about him.
The thought of him filled me with pain. I missed him more than I thought was possible. I wanted to go back to the way things were before he chose another woman over me, but I don’t know if I could ever trust him again.
I mean, that is assuming he even wanted to try and come back to me. For all I knew, he was mated to that w***e that kissed my mate. But I couldn’t just blame her. He chose to kiss her back and then continued to spend time with her.
I need to stop thinking about him. I was about to embark on an amazing journey and I needed to stop worrying about how he was doing. I’m sure he wasn’t thinking about me while in her arms.
Chase’s POV
It had been 4 months since I heard her voice. I tried again to call her over and over but she must have blocked my number.
I spent the entire time I was away thinking about her.
That evening I made my way back to Grams.
“Chase what is wrong.” She asked, taking my hand in hers.
“Nothing Gram.” I said, trying to put on my best smile.
“Now stop lying to me. I love you and I can tell something has been eating you up for the past 4 months. Now tell me.”
It felt like a tidal wave of emotions as I told her everything. From Lillian not wanting me to leave and thinking I would find somebody else to kissing Brooklyn. I let her know how Lillian told me she was done and I hadn’t talked to her in 4 months.
She sat and looked at me for awhile before she stood and fixed us tea.
She finally looked at me and smiled. “You were grieving when you kissed that little hussy. I have never liked her. I bet she is the reason the Alpha said no to Lillian coming to Pop Pop’s funeral.”
“I figured that out a little too late.”
“Chase honey, stop beating yourself up. Now tell me why you are still here and not back home making it up to your mate.”
“Gram, I can’t leave you, the pack doctor said.”
“Oh don’t listen to the old man. Having you around has made me feel better. So I guess we should get packing.”
“We?”
“If I am the reason you are staying, I guess I will just have to go with you.”
I sat and watched her quickly move around the room. “Get moving Chase. I have already mind linked Fred to use the cb radio to get the plane here tomorrow.”
“That fast.”
“I might be old, but I still know how to move. We will have to stay in town until you can book us a flight.”
She turned and looked at me. “You can book us a flight, right?”
“Yes, Gram, I know how to use a computer.”
“Well, get moving.”
I hurried to my room and got ready to head back home.
Lillian, I am coming for you.
Lillian’s POV
We had spent all day unpacking and I was exhausted. I had to visit the admission office first thing in the morning and I was to start class the following day.
“Lillie, what kind of pizza do you want?”
I immediately went to yell pepperoni and green peppers and then I realized I don’t really like cooked pepperoni.
“Plain cheese please.” I yelled back.
The pizza arrived in no time and I sat at the table with Nana and Papa. I realized maybe Chase was right. A lot of my opinions were based on what he liked and not my own. I couldn’t help but smile.
“What made you so happy?” Papa asked.
“I just realized I really liked plain pizza.”
The next morning, I was wide awake. I put on a tight pair of jeans with a tight tank top and made my way to the Admission’s office.
The woman took my name and had me take a seat. About 15 minutes later, Broc walked through the door.
“Lillian, I am so glad to see you decided to apply to the art program.” He said with a big smile, walking toward me.
I quickly stood to greet him but he stopped and as soon as I stood up.
His eyes traveled slowly down my body and back up. Did he just check me out? Nah no way.
“Yeah, I figured I would try.”
He swiftly made eye contact. “Well, I am glad you did….So follow me. You have some testing and then we will get your schedule situated and I will show you around.”
“Testing?”
“Yeah, since you were home schooled you will have to be tested to see what classes to put you in.”
“Ok.. Lead the way.”
